Elena, at the Five Stars festival in Yalta last summer you also performed the anthem. Do you specialize in them?
(Smiling.) I don’t know, maybe this is my purpose? With that song everything turned out the same as with New Year's, only ideological inspirer became my daughter Diana. We were going to celebrate her birthday, I had full car her classmates, and suddenly a song started playing in my head. Initially, I was invited to Yalta to sing “Two Stars” in a duet with another participant in “The Voice,” Sharip Umkhanov, but then I realized that I was now writing an anthem for “Five Stars”! Yalta is a native place for me, I come from Sevastopol. During the festival, everyone celebrated the entry of Crimea into Russia, and I myself had just received Russian passport.

Ira Nelson is a great singer and artist. Slava Tyurin - talented composer, producer. It was he who invited me to the group when, after the “New Wave” in 2008, I was looking around in search of myself. At that time I had what seemed to be a fairly successful track “Angel Wings” on my hands, but there were no connections and no understanding of what to do next. I always wanted to study solo career, and after “Wave” it seemed to me that I had learned something and could handle everything on my own. But then I realized that no, I couldn’t handle it. A year later, Slava called me - even before Volna I worked for him in the Non Stop group - and said: “Come join us at Reflex.”
And you immediately agreed?
I respect their creativity very much, so I agreed without a doubt. But she didn’t shine much in the group, because at that time there was some downtime: Slava and Ira lived in Los Angeles, they wrote albums there, and, by and large, there was no time to work with the group. But my relationship improved in the right circles. In general, the first offer I received after working at Reflex was to appear in a men's magazine. At first I refused, but then I thought: why not? The yacht, the sea, I am the master of the situation, they promised me that I would shoot as I want, and besides, the photographer is my old friend Roma Kadaria... But then the editors and I fought a lot over each photo - I wanted to choose less candid, but more aesthetic. It wasn't easy.
What happened after Reflex?
I participated in the national selection for Eurovision with a song written by Swedish authors, but after that everything stalled for a while, and then I got on “The Voice”. At the blind audition, all four chose me - Leonid Agutin, Dima Bilan, Alexander Gradsky, and Pelageya.
And you weren't ready for this...
I thought: “Oh my God, I need to make up my mind.” Agutin didn’t show any special emotions, but Dima, I remember, jumped up from his seat and started screaming, Polya also supported him, and Gradsky gave it to me last place in his team, although there was still a whole day of casting ahead and among the fifty participants there could have been someone more talented. I was very flattered and now I want to say a big thank you to everyone. Everyone who knows me knows that I have been working towards this for a very long time. As a result, I worked with Leonid Agutin, which I am very happy about: he is a talented composer, a wonderful artist who performs all production tasks himself. And I have always strived for the same. I had two producers, but somehow it didn’t work out with them, and now I act on my own.
So now you are your own boss?
Yes, but my team helps me. You must have your own management, because it is impossible to simultaneously iron your suit and think about where you need to go and what to write down. Sometimes I don’t have time to put on makeup, comb my hair, or eat; I even arrived at my own presentation after drinking just one cup of coffee. Now I’m learning from my mistakes, I write a lot, I try to show everything I can. Thank God, “The Voice” gave us all the opportunity to be heard. There are viewers, and this motivates me to write new songs, such as “Our First New Year.” My daughter, by the way, took it for school event- I asked for a backing track, remade the text and presented it on my “New Year’s Light” » . Diana belongs to that category of children who, having creative parents, like to do everything themselves: she sings, comes to the studio, records something, participates in theatrical productions at school, organizes some events. Unfortunately, we see each other almost once a day, or even less often, so I try to take her to all the shoots, she also starred in my video. I don’t drag her into show business because... For example, at her age I couldn’t imagine my life without music, without a stage, without all this paraphernalia, but with her everything is different. She is a person of mood: when she is comfortable, she can be very, very bright, when not, she gets tired quickly. My mother didn’t drag me anywhere either, I shook her myself: “Do something, I need to sing.” ( Smiling.) In Sevastopol there was only one group in which I subsequently ended up. At school, the teachers took charge of me and told my mother: “You have talented child, who will go to competitions.” My mother still sometimes asks me: “How is this possible? Maybe they replaced you at the maternity hospital?” He doesn’t understand how it is that in a family where there are no musicians, a person appears who plays music at a certain professional level.
What is your family's profession?
Mom is a teacher, dad is a military man, grandmother is a school director, another grandmother is a primary school teacher, grandfather is a physics teacher... (Thinking about it.) I am the kind of person who cannot do many things at the same time. If I am intensely involved in artistic activities, then I have little time left for my family, and then my mother and all my relatives join in to almost spoon feed me. After getting married, I focused exclusively on myself, my pregnancy, my apartment, and borscht. I was just such a wife-wife. My husband and I came to Moscow together from Sevastopol, and I was building a family home in a city that was still unfamiliar. I understood: when the child is born, I will be with him for some time, and I did not have the thought, like many colleagues, that “I’ll take a short break and then go to work.” Perhaps if I had now gotten married again and given birth to a second child, I would have reasoned this way, but then I didn’t. I actually didn’t know if my career would start, since I had absolutely nothing here. I just watched TV and dreamed about the stage, but I also dreamed that I had a happy family- beloved and loving husband, the child I was really looking forward to. But it didn’t work out.
What happened?
I realized that nothing would work out with my husband, and I started all over again. Left in my arms Small child. My father was sick. I, too, was not entirely healthy: a difficult birth, postpartum depression, lack of milk... I did not leave the hospital: my daughter constantly had a tummy ache, she did not sleep. And at that moment we remained in the female composition. My father is gone. Diana's dad and I have already had different lives. And my mother helped me with my child for twelve years so that I could do my work. She supported the family, and I was a dad to both myself and Diana - I earned money, realizing that there was no one to count on. This is how we existed. We also had a cat, but she died. Now I feel as if I am my own daughter’s child, because in some matters Diana has already outgrown me.
She independent girl?
Absolutely. She can live alone for weeks, cook her own breakfast and still not be late for school. We don’t have this: wake me up, iron my shirt and take me out, and then wait with lunch. We never had a nanny. Now Diana has grown up and does everything herself.
Diana is thirteen, a difficult age begins. Are you waiting for some teenage rebellion?
No, the only problem so far is that she cut off her hair, a whole 15 centimeters. I wanted volume, curls. How I squealed! “Diana, no more, you’ll want long ones and won’t know how to grow them!” ( Smiles.) I have already started to put on makeup, but with restraint. Her dad, whom she sees once every few months - despite the fact that they live in the same city - is against it, and in general everyone is against it. In general, Diana and I, of course, are not without conflicts, but I am very proud of her, I have an amazing child. She has a core. And that's why I know I can rely on her. Sometimes she says to me: “Mom, stop it, mom, what are you doing?” We have a partnership with her. We have been living as dorm roommates for two years now, sharing our nice rented apartment for two.
Rented apartment?
About housing - this is absolutely lovely. I've been waiting for my apartment since 2008. Everything I ever earned I invested in it. That is, in fact, I don’t have any money, it’s all there. And the house took twelve years to complete - it started back in 2002. And all this time we
