Vasilisa is a wonderful description of a fairy-tale hero. Characteristics of Vasilisa the Wise from the fairy tale The Frog Princess The image of Vasilisa the Beautiful in the fairy tale The Frog Princess

Every child loves to listen to fairy tales, because they immerse you in the mysterious and Magic world, where animals and birds come to life, trees speak and miracles happen. One of my favorite fairy tales is. The plot of this tale is very interesting, and most importantly instructive. But today we will not talk about the plot in mine, but about the main character Vasilisa the Wise and her, for whose sake main character Ivan Tsarevich passed serious tests.

Vasilisa the Wise Brief Description

In the fairy tale, we immediately meet Vasilisa the Wise, who appears before us in the form of a frog. It was to her that the arrow shot by Ivan flew to her. Besides the fact that the frog can speak in a human voice, nothing else suggests that the beautiful girl Vasilisa, who was bewitched by Koschey, is hiding in the frog’s skin.

From the first days of her marriage, even in the form of a frog, Vasilisa tries to support her husband and appears loving, caring wife and a jack of all trades. This is evidenced by all the king’s tasks being completed perfectly. Incarnated in the image of Vasilisa the Wise best features Russian women. These are loyalty, humility, intelligence and patience. Her character intertwined spiritual simplicity, modesty, majesty, calmness and cunning. In any situation, she retains the ability to think sensibly, and her phrase “The morning of the evening is wiser” helps many people in real life.

This is Vasilisa the Wise - a wise woman who did not reproach her husband when he burned the skin of a frog, although she understands that she now needs to return to Koshchei. But she believes in Ivan and that he will not leave her in trouble. And Ivan justified all the hopes of Vasilisa the Wise. They stay together.

To summarize, in the image of the princess we see the personification of love, kindness, family happiness and peace.

Female character in Russian folk tales. Is one of many incarnations collective image Princesses. Also found under the names Vasilisa the Wise, Elena the beautiful, Marya Iskusnitsa, Marya-Morevna.

Before moving on to the characterization of the image, it is important to note that all Russian folk tales have deep roots. They implicitly tell about those times when ancient communal-tribal orders dominated in society. Sometimes a popular and seemingly simple story tells about such unthinkable things, for modern man things that make the hair on your head stand on end. By the way, image Vasilisa-Princesses are no exception here.

Common features

So, what do fairy-tale maidens look like? They are certainly very good-looking. When he sees the princess, the main character falls in love with her at first sight. Moreover, he falls in love even if he sees not the girl herself, but only her portrait or reflection.

Girls are almost always carriers of some kind of supernatural power, which goes to them by right of kinship. For example, . Often, by their own will or against it, they are reincarnated into animals (Swan Princess, etc.).
At the end of any fairy tale, the Princess becomes the wife of the main character. However, the path to marriage can be different. So there are two main types of such female characters:

  • meek and flexible girls for whom marriage is salvation. They are eternally grateful to the main character and meekly become his fairy-tale assistants (the Swan Princess);
  • aggressive, forced into marriage, trying in every possible way to turn away the main character (Marya-Morevna, Tsarevna-Nesmeyana).

The role of the father

Next to every fairy-tale maiden there is certainly a minor character- her father. In some tales he is almost neutral and has no power. In others, it’s as if he’s directing the plot. For example, a king, giving his princess in marriage, comes up with various tests for the grooms. He seems to want to arrange his daughter’s fate, but, on the other hand, he does everything to hinder the suitors.

What is the context of the situation?

The fact is that in the communities of antiquity there was an order according to which succession to the throne passed not according to male line, but for women. That is, it was not the king’s son who became the successor to the throne, but the husband of the king’s daughter. Hence the struggle for power.

On this fact also indicates another interesting point. Often, fairy-tale heroine, wanting to still help her future spouse, reveals some secret to him - points out where she has a flaw, a mark, distinctive feature, and thus helps you pass the test. It's about about ancient family markings. Each clan had its own markings - tattoos. By joining a woman’s clan (elements of a matriarchal system), a man recognized her mark and, subsequently, received the same one himself.

secret house

The girl finds herself in an abandoned forest house, surrounded only by men. Her role is quite obvious. Men “exiled” during their initiation or puberty live separately from the rest of the community, learn the secrets of the universe, and gain secret experience. Woman ( or women), after living with them, is obliged to forget everything she saw and heard. That is why, according to the fairy tale, she dies. She is placed in a crystal (quartz) coffin and left alone.

It is known that in ancient times crystal was given special significance, as it had cleansing powers. After this procedure, the girl could return to ordinary life, that is, to create a family within the framework of community foundations.

Abandoned

It often happens in fairy tales that the fairy-tale hero forgets his beloved. She asks him not to forget her, and he, breaking his word, returns to his native lands and meets another. Of course, in the end, according to the plot, he returns to his first love. But this is only in a fairy tale.

It's all about the same initiation rite. Women with whom young men entered into relationships while living away from the community were subsequently abandoned. The men returned to the community and married according to the laws of their tribe. The idea of the inevitability of a happy ending appeared in culture only with the advent of the era of Christianization. Polygamy became condemned. So, the fairy-tale hero, under the influence of conscience, was forced to return to the girl with whom he had a relationship earlier.

Bottom line

Despite this rather prosaic picture of primitive communal relations in fairy tales, image of the Princess ( Vasilisa the Beautiful, Vasilisa the Wise, Tsar-Maidens etc.) remains one of the most sublime in Russian folk tales. Particularly important here is the role of feminine, non-trivial properties of the female mind and many other advantages.

The culture of Russian traditional fairy tales, in which the people tried to express their national worldview, is diverse. Storytellers who pass stories on from mouth to mouth have invented colorful characters who are shrouded in an aura of mystery.

So, in national books there is a flying on a broom, the owner underground kingdom and Vasilisa the Wise, who personifies kindness, caring and determination. Basically, this girl acts as the bride of the main character, be it or, but initially the heroine has to be saved, and then married.

Image and characteristics

“The Frog Princess” is perhaps the most popular fairy tale about Vasilisa the Wise, however, a similar plot using antithesis is also found in other countries, for example, Italy and Greece. The work tells about a king who had three sons. When the time came to look for the lady of the heart, the brothers shot an arrow to choose a bride for themselves. Ivan Tsarevich was the least fortunate of all, because his arrow ended up with a frog. But the young man would have known that Vasilisa, the victim of the witchcraft spells of Koshchei the Immortal, was dressed in the skin of an amphibian!

Despite such a deplorable situation, the girl managed to cope (with the help of witchcraft or “nurses”) with all the king’s tasks in order to show herself with best side: wove a carpet, baked delicious bread. When the time for the feast approaches, Vasilisa sheds her frog skin and appears as a painted beauty from whom it is impossible to take her eyes off.

Ivan Tsarevich wished that his wife would remain in this form forever, so he secretly burned the girl’s “clothes.” But the king’s son made a mistake, because of which the Wise One was obliged to return to Koshcheevo’s kingdom. Therefore, the main character, armed with a bow, goes in search of an evil sorcerer in order to free his bride.

Among other things, Vasilisa can talk to animals, the Sun and the Moon. And in the fairy tale " Sea king» main character reincarnated as a duck, and turned her companion into a drake in order to escape from the furious owner of the throne, an inhabitant of the sea.

Film adaptations

Fairy tales about Vasilisa the Wise have more than once been turned into cartoons and films, and the role of the heroine was played by famous actresses. Let's look at a few popular films.

"Merry Magic" (1969)

In 1969, director Boris Rytsarev staged a film fairy tale based on the play “Katya and Miracles” by Nina Gernet and Grigory Yagdfeld. The plot of the film revolves around Katya: the girl accidentally found the magic “koshcheev grass”, which can cast a spell on Vasilisa the Beautiful.

When the cleaning lady Akulina Ivanovna, who was Baba Yaga in the past, told the schoolgirl the story of Koshchei, they set off on an adventure to defeat the evil wizard and save the enchanted girl. The role of Vasilisa went to actress Svetlana Smekhnova, and other characters were performed by Marina Kozodoeva, Andrei Voinovsky, Elizaveta Uvarova, and other actors.

“There, on unknown paths...” (1982)

Director Mikhail Yuzovsky delighted avid film fans with a crossover based on the book “Down the Magic River.” The picture tells how the boy Mitya Sidorov plunges into fabulous adventures and meets iconic Russian characters, for example, Baba Yaga, who appears in the guise of a good witch.

Vasilisa Afanasyevna the Wise played, who worked on one film set with Roman Monastyrsky, and .

"Miracles in Reshetov" (2004)

The director showed cinema lovers an original concept, placing fairy-tale characters in modern world. The characters are forced to wander around the world. They cannot stay in one place for long, because the ageless Vasilisa and talking cat– this is at least strange. When the heroes move to the provincial town of Reshetov, miracles begin to happen there: either magic water appears in a well, or grandmother Yadviga flies at night on a washing machine.
