The aviation concern produces a full line of aircraft, including the Airbus A321 aircraft, the cabin layout of which can accommodate up to 220 seats (in an enlarged version), depending on the customer’s wishes and configuration.

A320 family

In the eighties of the last century, this line of narrow-body aircraft in the Airbus model range was the most advanced in terms of technology. For the first time in the series, the EDCS (electrical remote control system) was used, and the cockpit was equipped for the first time with side control handles instead of conventional steering columns. The tail of the aircraft and its end winglets on the wings were made of composite materials. The main competitors of the series, especially the extended version with the Airbus A321 index, were the American Boeing B737. The latest generations of B737NG (New Generation) are equipped with electronic and automatic systems no worse than Airbuses.

Increased demand

However, the demand for European flying machines is growing day by day. In February 2008, the plant was forced to open an additional assembly site for such aircraft in Hamburg (Germany) due to the sharply increased demand for the models. Until this moment we managed production facilities one plant in Toulouse, where the Airbus A321 was also assembled. The layout of the aircraft cabin was determined by the Airbus model. The smallest of this class is the A318; when configured, one class (Economy Y) could carry a maximum of 138 people.

Long-awaited release

In 1994, an extended version of the bestseller was presented. Airlines, the plant's customers, wanted to get more, but for about the same money. Moving to another class would mean higher costs for fuel, permits and certification, higher airport taxes, etc. Therefore, the long-awaited release of the Airbus A321 model was greeted very warmly in the narrow circles of top managers from the world of aviation. Factories in Toulouse and Hamburg were bombarded with orders, production worked 24 hours without breaks, workers worked in three and sometimes four shifts. The 321 entered into direct competition with the Boeing B757, despite the fact that the latter has increased passenger capacity and flight range. Since 2005, the B757 has been discontinued, and the number of orders for the Airbus A321 has increased again, despite the low dollar exchange rate. For Airbus, this remains a rather serious problem, because historically, orders are paid in dollars, although all of the concern’s production sites are located in the eurozone.

More than the A320

The increased length of the fuselage allows you to accommodate 170 passengers in two cabins of varying degrees of comfort, or up to 220 people with the maximum filling of the passenger compartment with seating. Airbus also leaves the opportunity for the future operator to choose the cabin layout from the proposed acceptable options for the Airbus A321 aircraft. The layout of the seats and the distance between them can be changed to values ​​from the range proposed by the manufacturer. In the most economical version of the cabin, 36 rows of two built-in seats are installed on the left and right of the aisle and one row, as a rule, at the third pair of emergency exits with double seats on opposite sides of the aisle. There is also the option of arranging seats in 35 rows of six seats in a row, 2 rows of four seats (at the second and third pair of emergency exits) and the last row of two seats installed in the rear of the fuselage. With such seating arrangements, the Airbus A321 interior has a minimum distance between adjacent seats of 28-30 centimeters (about 11 inches).

Where are the best places?

But even with this layout of the aircraft, you can find seats of increased comfort. The first rows of the cabin are always distinguished by increased legroom. Even in those variations of aircraft where a wall separates the economy cabin from the business class, there will always be more space than in the aisle. Airbus 321 is the largest aircraft of the 320 family produced by Airbus. The first flight took place in 1992. Aircraft production continues to this day. According to their own technical specifications and maintenance differs little from the prototype - the 320th, but due to more powerful engines it is capable of transporting large quantity passengers and luggage.

The aircraft is assembled for a specific order - the customer is offered only an economy class version with a capacity of 220 people or a business/economy version with a capacity of 185 people.

Story

The French company began assembling the prototype of the 320 back in 1972. In the 90s, the 319th version first appeared, the main difference of which is the fuselage shortened by 7 meters. The remaining parameters are the same as the 320th. The first "Airbus" received a fuselage 7 meters longer than the prototype and in 1992 had the shortest flight range among the entire 320 family. Then, with modernization, the aircraft received stronger brakes, more powerful engines and an additional tank located in the rear of the cabin. The original the development was not planned, unlike plans for the 320, to create competition for the Americans, but the appearance on the Boeing 757 market forced the company to reconsider the decision to produce the 321, and the current model, 321-200, is a worthy competitor to the 757 , slightly inferior in flight range, but having a more spacious fuselage.

The first customer for the new model aircraft was the German Lufthansa. The 321-100 aircraft flew into its hangars in early 1995. At the end of 1996, the first Airbus 321-200 took off.

As already mentioned, the customer receives one of two layout options at the factory. However, that's not all. During operation, the customer can change the number of seats himself and thus convert the aircraft to carry more or fewer passengers. The documentation for the aircraft indicates how the cabin can be rearranged. Airbus 321 has a wide range of layouts. From economy class, where there will be 6 seats in a row, three on each side of the aisle, to business class, where there will already be 4 seats in a row. Wide-frame layouts are also allowed. There are only two restrictions - in any configuration the aircraft will have 1 aisle with seats on both sides of the aisle. The second limitation is inherent in the design: at the end of the plane there will be only 2 seats, one on each side of the aisle, and 2 rows opposite the emergency doors also have 4 seats in any layout.

Choosing a seat on the plane

Even a short flight can be a burden if you sit down and find that, due to the design of the airliner, the backrests of your seats do not recline, or people are constantly walking past you on their way to the bathroom. Therefore, when you go on a flight, you should ask yourself a number of questions. For example, this: “Do you like to watch flight?” If you like, you need to choose seats near the windows, keeping in mind that in front of some of them there will be wings, and all you will see is the movement of the automation during takeoff, landing, and change of direction.

Rows 15 to 22 on an Airbus 321 economy class aircraft have this disadvantage. In addition, the 25th row, being located in front of the second emergency exit, does not have the ability to recline the seat. At the same time, these seats are considered ideal for traveling couples, since in this row, even in economy, there are only 4 seats, 2 on each side of the aisle.

But if the plane flies at night, choosing a window seat will do nothing, but being in the rows in front of the emergency exits can cause many unpleasant minutes due to blocked backrests. In addition to the 25th, the backrests are also blocked in the 10th row, but, unlike the 25th, here the economy class includes 6 seats, three on each side of the aisle.
