In October 2016, four completely different musicals opened in Moscow, each of which found its audience.

The musical “Cinderella” - Moscow, Rossiya Theater, premiere October 1, 2016

Classic Broadway musicals, composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein composed their “Cinderella” specifically for live television broadcast. The program, which aired in 1957, long held the record as the program with the most high rating In the history of American television, the musical was watched by 100 million viewers. The authors expected to show “Cinderella” on Broadway, but this happened only 56 years later - in 2013. Four new songs were added to the score, borrowed from the legacy of Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Douglas Carter Beeney rewrote the libretto, and the familiar story took on several unexpected plot twists.

The musical “Cinderella” at the Rossiya Theater was presented to Muscovites by the theater company “Stage Entertainment”. The performance was created specifically for domestic audiences by an international team. Special attention is focused on the visuals: David Gallo, winner of the highest American theater award, Tony, author of the stage design for the musical Beauty and the Beast, worked on the scenery. The musical was translated into Russian by Alexey Ivashchenko.

The production has all the attributes of a Cinderella story: a carriage, magic dress and glass slippers, but the heroes are more like modern people, and the fairy-tale kingdom lives according to the laws of modern society. Now Ella Cinderella is not a victim of mistreatment who receives a reward in the form of a prince for her kindness, but an energetic, intelligent girl with an active life position, only by the will of circumstances found herself in the service of the evil stepmother - Madame. The musical “Circus Princess” - Moscow, premiere on October 12, 2016 at the Musical Theater

In 2014, the producer of the Musical Theater David Smelyansky brought “7 Fingers” to Moscow for the first time, a Canadian group working at the intersection of circus and theater. It was so impressive, original and touching that the Musical Theater started thinking about joint project. The choice fell on Kalman's operetta “The Circus Princess”. In Canada, however, they don’t know anything about it, but in our country “Mr. X” (under this name this operetta is staged most often) is among the most favorite performances of the light genre.

"7 Fingers" have already dealt with musical theater. One of the founders of the troupe, Gypsy Snyder, came up with circus acts for the successful Broadway musical Pippin. Her colleague, director Sebastien Soldevila, is working on “The Circus Princess.” Canadians Genevieve Dorion-Kupal and Olivier Landreville are also responsible for the choreography and scenery.

Although the time of action in the musical “Circus Princess” will not change, as well as the main plot conflict, it will still not be quite the “Princess” that fans of the operetta are accustomed to. The performance will have a new libretto from Alexey Ivashchenko, Kalman’s score has been rearranged to give a more “musical” sound, and the keys of the arias have been changed. But the main surprise for the viewer will be the risky circus acts, conceived as part of the overall drama.

For whom: The performance will appeal to audiences of all ages. Grandparents will be pleased to talk about their youth to Kalman's melodies familiar from childhood; mothers (and perhaps fathers) will follow the development of the plot with interest. Well, stylish performances and dangerous stunts from the 7 Fingers Circus will amaze both children and adults.

Stars: Maxim Zausalin and Evgeny Shirkov as Mr. X, Yulia Vostrilova as Theodora.

Duration: 2.30

Ticket prices: from 500 rubles.

The plot of the musical "Circus Princess"

In our country, there is a tradition of not being too careful with the libretto of operettas, and this is no coincidence: jokes quickly become outdated, some situations on domestic soil seem absurd, so the libretto of “The Circus Princess” has different editions. We don’t know what the author of the new play, Alexey Ivashchenko, has prepared for the audience. But the main characters will be the same: a beautiful aristocrat and a mysterious circus performer in a mask.

The musical “Anna Karenina” - Moscow, premiere on October 8, 2016 at the Operetta Theater

The musical "Anna Karenina" is the third original musical produced by Vladimir Tartakovsky and Alexei Balonin in the Moscow Operetta. Creative team the same as the theater’s previous projects - “Monte Cristo” and “Count Orlov”. Fans of musicals wondered whether the authors of Anna Karenina would be able to offer something fundamentally new or would remain faithful to the style they had found. The premiere dispelled all doubts: “Anna Karenina” - Native sister the above musicals, but in some ways even surpassed them. The production turned out to be incredibly impressive, with a varied visual range (Vyacheslav Okunev is responsible for the imperial splendor and the locomotive), projection screens and Gleb Filshtinsky’s signature lighting.

And of course, the audience will be pleased with the familiar intonations from composer Roman Ignatiev and librettist Yuli Kim. The latter adapted Tolstoy's novel in a very unique way, squeezing the maximum of melodrama out of it and pushing philosophical reflections further away.

As usual, the Operetta Theater relies on a star-studded ensemble. All the favorites are there, and thanks to the opportunity to view the cast on the production’s website, enjoyment of the performance is guaranteed.

For whom: The musical is a must-see for women of all ages and cultural backgrounds - from high school girls, who enjoy Anna Karenina school curriculum, to impressionable philological virgins of retirement age. The Operetta Theater knows how to talk about passion and duty like nowhere else.

Stars: Ekaterina Guseva and Valeria Lanskaya as Anna Karenina, Dmitry Ermak as Vronsky, Natalia Bystrova as Kitty.

Similar musicals:"Monte Cristo", "Count Orlov".

Ticket prices: from 900 rubles.

The plot of the musical "Anna Karenina"

Young Kitty Shcherbatskaya is captivated by the brilliant officer Count Alexei Vronsky, not noticing the modest landowner Konstantin Levin who is in love with her. However, Vronsky himself is obsessed with passion for a married lady - Anna Karenina, the wife of high-ranking official Alexei Alexandrovich Karenin. A romance breaks out between Anna and Vronsky, causing condemnation from the world. After Karenin refuses Anna a divorce, the situation for the lovers becomes uncertain and painful. Meanwhile, Kitty realizes her feelings for Levin...

Musical American classics Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein's "Cinderella" fairy tale of the same name Charles Perrault committed amazing trip: from the incredibly successful television musical film(1957) to the colorful and witty Broadway play (2013), which received numerous theater award nominations.

In the fall of 2016, the Stage Entertainment Theater Company will present a completely new production created specifically for Russian audiences.

A stellar international team is working on this sensational magical musical:

Directed by Lindsay Posner (UK). Winner of the highest British theater award"Olivier", Lindsay collaborates with the largest theaters in London's West End: the Royal National Theatre, the Royal Court and the Apollo theatres.
- Production designer David Gallo (USA). David's portfolio includes 30 Broadway productions and a Tony Award for Best Scenic Design. His scenery for the musical “Beauty and the Beast” amazed Muscovites with its truly fabulous scale.
- Costume designer Tatyana Noginova (Russia). Tatyana has released more than 60 theatrical productions- from Broadway musicals and dramatic performances to classical operas and ballets. Costume designer for the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theaters.

The first important warning is that audiences buying tickets should not confuse the musicals "All About Cinderella" - it it's already underway the third season at the Musical Theater, and “Cinderella” - the first season has just opened with the premiere at the Rossiya Theater. These are different productions and before going to the theater, it is better to decide in advance.

At the premiere of the new musical "Cinderella", the children - especially the girls - came so beautiful, and moved so weightlessly along the stairs and floor strewn with sparkles of the Rossiya Theater, that every now and then adults turned to them with the question: "Aren't you performing today? main role?".

But, if during the course of the performance the children tried to remind Cinderella that the clock was about to strike 12, that she had to lose her shoe, and then pointed the prince’s guards in a different direction so that they would not find the fugitive, then the adults had something to think about. The performance is a family one. Of course, there were adults - for example, general producer performance by Dmitry Bogachev - who, on the eve of the premiere, were racking their brains over how to turn a pumpkin into a carriage on stage. And, I must say, this was achieved in the original Russian production. Both Cinderella and the Fairy are transformed without even hiding behind the scenes. Animals turn into people and vice versa, almost before everyone’s eyes. And in the case of the pumpkin, all the tricks are involved - light, moving projections, illumination... Sleight of hand of the directors and no fraud.

But there were also adults at the premiere who suddenly thought about the special significance of the fairy tale “Cinderella” specifically for Russia. And here is the second important warning. Because the viewer will not find the usual plot in the new production. This is felt especially acutely, not even when Cinderella “forgets” to lose her shoe, but as soon as the prince from the play arranges fair elections for the prime minister in his kingdom. It was then that the thought came to mind that it was strange that the fairy tale “Cinderella” was not invented in Russia. Why does it come to us in countless variations - the theme of most films and TV series, the basis for a considerable number of performances (and two musicals - that's not the limit)? Because who, if not our women, who are carrying a heavy load of problems, would dream of a sudden beautiful dress, good fairy and the prince. In countries with high level This is the fairy tale of life. I wanted pumpkin - at any time of the day. Call for a budget “carriage” - please, outfits and balls are a dime a dozen. And all this is affordable. With princes it is more difficult, but only because women there do not treat men as princes in principle. Equality.

However, the musical Cinderella by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein was first made as a television production (1957), and therefore responded to current “news” issues. He appeared on the Broadway stage not immediately - only a few years ago - in 2013. And for some reason this “topical Cinderella” - not quite the same as what we are all used to seeing, turned out to be as if designed specifically for our country - this is what the producers saw, who decided to stage this particular musical here and right now. But in the new Russian version it is expanded and in-depth. Since the time of the revolution, our performances have been good. class theme, and even with the theme of a popular uprising and the fight for justice. There was a time - they were even staged on purpose - it was thought that what kind of production would it be without the struggle of the working class and the bourgeoisie?

But what fairy tale touches on the theme of class more than “Cinderella”? In the version to be seen in Moscow, children learn words such as the words "leader of the nation" (belonging to Cinderella), "corruption", "contraindications", "revolution". They understand what it means to go around with slogans and pour soup for the poor. Moreover, they feel sorry for the poor because their lands are taken away. How could it be otherwise, because at the most romantic moment, Cinderella, instead of saying words of love to the prince in response, tells him that the poor are abused in his kingdom. This musical tells the story of the royal wedding, as well as the funeral - the right way distract people from problems. And for this reason, the first part contains one of the most powerful scenes. On the one hand - calls for freedom, on the other - an invitation to the prince to the ball. Where will it go people? To the ball, of course.

In general, in some places this “Cinderella” is similar to “Spartak”, but this does not spoil it at all - it only adds humor and social acuity. In addition, it gives the actors room to develop. There are few new names here for Russian fans of musicals. Julia Iva, who plays Cinderella, is already well known from “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and especially from “Singing in the Rain.” The viewer waits for every appearance of the musical star Elena Charkviani, who plays the role of the “universal” fairy godmother. And in fact, you want to be personally acquainted with such a sorceress - this is how the actress plays. The role of the main “revolutionary” is played by Roman Aptekar, who, by the way, also played in the musical “All About Cinderella”, and was also simply unique in the Russian version of “Singing in the Rain”. Igor Portnoy is good in the role of Lord Pinkleton. Alexey Ivashchenko, who wrote the Russian text, made it extremely simple and understandable. The words fit easily to the music and are quickly remembered. So after that you continue to hum “And so he sings, not knowing that it would be better if he didn’t sing,” while noting with pleasure that this does not apply to the new performance. Or "There are many in the world strange people, they are full of crazy ideas,” realizing with satisfaction that this applies to the musical in the best sense.

However, the main discovery of this performance is actress Alena Khmelnitskaya, aka Stepmother, aka Madame. The viewer knows her mainly as a dramatic actress, not remembering that she sang Conchita in the rock opera “Juno and Avos”. In the role of the intriguing stepmother, she is so characteristic and bright that the first bouquet of flowers after the premiere was, of course, given to her. Khmelnitskaya is “in tune” with Tatyana Kulakova, who plays the role stepsister"Cinderella" - Charlotte. The second act begins with a number designed for her heroine, “What’s wrong with men?”, and it “rips off” almost the most loud ovation for the entire production.

And at the same time, it reminds us that “Cinderella” can have any interpretation you like, but there is no more women’s fairy tale, because it, like a pedal, presses on all the most important and such simple feelings, inherent in the “weaker sex”. Beautiful dresses, exquisite jewelry, stylish shoes, jealousy, resentment and forgiveness, showdowns, struggle for a man... How to keep secrets? How to marry - for love or for money? And absolutely impossible disappointment in the princes, no matter what they - these princes - do... That is why the most heartfelt number new production“Cinderella” is not at all a popular revolt and not even a finale where everyone and everything is in white, but one where Madame and her three daughters dream aloud about true love.

See the photo report on the website from the open rehearsal of the new musical performance!

From October 1, the Rossiya Theater will once again open its doors to all fans of the musical genre. The theater company Stage Entertainment is staging its tenth anniversary musical performance in Moscow. This fall, residents of the capital will be able to enjoy the absolute Broadway hit - the musical “Cinderella”. But Russian production has undergone some changes, and apart from the libretto and songs by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, our “Cinderella” no longer borrows anything from the original. Everything is your own, native, creative. And, what’s especially nice, the team that worked on the play includes professionals not only from the USA and Great Britain, but also from Russia.

The director of the Russian version of the musical, winner of the highest theater award, Laurence Olivier, Lindsay Posner says:

"Cinderella" is a wonderful story about a young girl and a handsome Prince. Serious things are told here in simple language, and therefore will be understandable to both children and adults. Our performance is different from the usual fairy tale. When I started staging the musical, I approached the matter as if I were dealing with a drama or a work by Chekhov. After all, when working with material like Cinderella, it’s easy to go into pantomime.

But the new musical from the creators of The Little Mermaid, The Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast and other successful metropolitan productions is not going into pantomime. On the contrary, the performance raises very serious and current topics. For example, Cinderella, that is, Ella, here is not a timid, quiet and shy girl, as we are used to seeing her in the Disney cartoon of the same name, but a strong, self-sufficient and independent girl who has her own opinion. Such, if necessary, will charm the Prince, and stop a galloping horse, and sort out buckwheat and rice. In general, everything is like in life.

In addition, be prepared for other changes to the plot of the traditional fairy tale. Cinderella will go to the ball not once, but twice. She is also friends with one of her stepsisters and helps her arrange personal life. The stepmother is not that evil, but simply harmful. She is played, by the way, by theater and film actress Alena Khmelnitskaya, who had never participated in musical performances. So this is a real debut for a famous artist!

Alena Khmelnitskaya in the musical “Cinderella”

Alena Khmelnitskaya admits:

When I found myself inside this process and saw the superhuman work that artists, directors, and orchestra musicians put into their work, I began to respect the musical genre even more. I also really like my heroine - she, of course, is bitchy, obsessed with herself, but still there is something good in her. Again, she wants to marry her daughter off successfully... And then, she is so stylish! You can’t imagine how much I like her outfits, especially her fantastically beautiful hat.

And it’s hard to disagree with Alena. Decoration, as always, amazes the imagination. Dresses for Cinderella and costumes for other characters were created under the strict guidance of Tatyana Noginova in the workshops Mariinsky Theater. In total, more than 200 outfits were sewn for the performance. “Where are Cinderella’s famous shoes?” you ask. Of course, where would we be without magic shoes! The shoes were made especially for the musical by the Bakhmetev Crystal House. This is a real work of art, believe me! You can see them in the foyer of the Rossiya Theater, where everyone in the audience will be allowed to touch them and make a wish. They say it will come true. Returning to the performance, the set design was done by production designer David Gallo - by the way, he created the set for the musical “Beauty and the Beast”.

From the same opera, as they say, the performer of the role of Prince Topher is theater and film actor Pavel Levkin, who the year before last tried on the role of the Beast. Now the artist, without frightening makeup and with a glass slipper in his hand, will look for his one and only. And already recognized musical stars Yulia Iva and Natalia Bystrova will alternately play Cinderella. You may remember the first one from your participation in the play “Singing in the Rain”, and the last one from the musicals “The Little Mermaid” and “Beauty and the Beast”.

The Russian “Cinderella” will not do without special effects. The creators of the production promise that all the miracles announced in the plot of the fairy tale will happen in front of the audience, on the stage of the Rossiya Theater.

On October 22, an open rehearsal of the main theatrical premiere of the season took place at the Rossiya Theater on Pushkinskaya Square in Moscow. musical
"Cinderella", to which media representatives were invited. On stage they united again: the amazing acting, and the wonderful vocal parts,
and the magic of an old fairy tale. And, of course, the most fabulous, most romantic story love...

More than 200 unique costumes and sets were developed and manufactured especially for the production in Moscow, which were created in

“For many years now, the story of Cinderella has not lost its relevance, being reflected in the works of many authors and continuing to arouse interest
both children's and adult audiences. This is confirmed by the film of the same name produced by the Walt Disney company, which was included in the top 10
films of 2015 with the highest box office receipts in the US and nominated for an Oscar. The idea to stage the musical “Cinderella” in Russia
appeared a long time ago, and I am sure that fairy tale story love, full of miracles and transformations, will attract to the Rossiya Theater, over the past few
years, which has become the center of cultural family leisure for Muscovites, an audience of all age categories,” said the head theater company"Stage
Entertainment", producer Dmitry Bogachev.

The musical “Cinderella” will become the tenth project of the Stage Entertainment company in Russia and the first co-production musical in history
Russia, England and the USA. A new, original production will be created in Moscow, which will borrow the libretto and songs from the Broadway play
Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. The musical was directed by Lindsay Posner, winner of the Laurence Olivier Award (the highest theatrical
British awards). He is known for his work in the largest theaters in London's West End - the Royal national theater, "Royal Court",
"Apollo".

The actors of the musical “Cinderella” are getting ready for the premiere. Actress Natalia Bystrova got the role of the main character.

“I’m happy that I will play Cinderella, because her story is similar to my personal one,” says Natalia. – Ten years ago I came to Moscow from provincial town and pulled out happy ticket, landing the lead role in the musical MAMMA MIA! Last year I had to do
a short break in my career: my husband, actor Dmitry Ermak, and I had a son. I'm glad I'll be back big stage precisely in the role
Cinderella, this is already the fourth Princess in my “arsenal”!

The actress will also play the role of Cinderella Yulia Iva , who brilliantly played the role of Katie Selden in the musical Singin' in the Rain. As a Prince
theater and film actor will appear on stage Pavel Levkin , performer of the role of the Beast in the musical “Beauty and the Beast”.

The characteristic role of Madame (Stepmother) will be played by a theater and film star Alena Khmelnitskaya And famous actress musicals Lika Rulla . For Alena
Khmelnitskaya’s participation in “Cinderella” will be her first experience of working in a musical:

I really love the musical genre and am glad that it is now so popular in Russia. My theatrical career began with the rock opera “Juno and Avos”. II’ve always dreamed of playing in a high-quality Broadway production - and in October I’ll take the stage in the theater’s new musical “Cinderella.”
Stage Entertainment company in the role of Madame (Stepmother). In the dramaturgy of the fairy tale, I have always been very sympathetic to this particular character. In our
production of Madame - sophisticated, luxurious, a little nervous, very ambiguous, and I hope that I can imagine my heroine in the new
light. I believe that absolutely does not happen negative characters and there must be a reason for everything. In addition, I also have two growing
daughters, and this makes my heroine and I related.

Also in the musical "Cinderella"

That evening, media representatives were the first to have the opportunity to touch the legendary symbol of a fairy tale - the Crystal

Cinderella's shoes made by the Crystal House "BAKHMETEV". Although initially the slipper was not made of crystal, because in the original fairy tale

the well-known classic version. Heel height glass slipper Cinderella is 13 centimeters, size 36, and weighs approx.
kilogram. Its design was developed specifically for the Russian musical. Viewers will be able to see the real glass slipper in person.
Cinderella, which will be exhibited in the theater foyer, and again believe in the magic that will be in abundance in the musical.

In the performance you can see how the carriage turns into a pumpkin, and how Cinderella’s dress changes before your eyes, and there will be a lot more fairy tales.
