Literary biography
Samwise Gamgee first appears in The Fellowship of the Ring. He was Frodo Baggins' gardener, having inherited the position from his father, Hamfast "Gaffer" Gamgee. During the War of the Ring, Sam lived at 3 Bagshot Row with his father.
As "punishment" for Sam eavesdropping on Gandalf's conversation with Frodo about the One Ring, Sam became Frodo's first companion on his journey to Rivendell. Later they were joined by Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took, Frodo's cousins, after which the four hobbits, having experienced many adventures, reached Rivendell, where they took part in the council of Elrond and entered the Fellowship of the Ring.
When the Fellowship fell apart at the Falls of Rauros, Sam persuaded Frodo to take him with him to Mordor. As Frodo grew weaker under the burden of the Ring, Sam carried most of the luggage, prepared the food, stood guard at night (when he could), and distributed the food so that Frodo had enough strength to continue his journey. Biography
Samwise Gamgee, the faithful servant of Frodo Baggins, was sent on a journey by Gandalf, and followed his master wherever he went, even if Sam was not invited there. He proved himself a brave and loyal companion, and became Frodo's close friend. His companionship and love for his master led them both through all the hardships and dangers to the final goal of their journey. The Fellowship of the Ring
At a council with Lord Elrond (the king of the elves), it was decided to create a detachment - the Fellowship of the Ring, which would go to Mordor to destroy the Ring once and for all. Samwise Gamgee (a photo of the actor who embodied the character can be seen below), despite the fact that he was not invited, secretly made his way to the council and declared that “Mr. Frodo would not go anywhere without him.” Hobbits, people, an elf, a dwarf and a wizard also joined their company...
And so, when the Brotherhood ceased to exist at the Rauros Falls, and Frodo decided to go to Mordor on his own, Samwise Gamgee persuaded Beggins not to give up his traveling companion. He even had to throw himself into the river in order to catch up with the boat, although he did not know how to swim at all.
Personal qualities
Frodo began to weaken due to the power of the Ring, and Sam had to carry most of the luggage, do the cooking, and also tried to remain as a sentry as often as he could. He distributed the food so that Frodo got most of it, and generally tried in every possible way to make his journey easier.
Later, when in the lair of the spider Shelob (where their guide Gollum led them) it seemed that Frodo had died, Sam carried the Ring further. However, when he overheard the conversation of the orcs and learned that his friend was alive, Samwise Gamgee immediately rushed to his rescue, undeterred by the guards. Having freed his comrade, Sam returned the Ring to him, and the brave hobbits moved on.
It is worth noting separately that of all the characters who were the previous owners of the Ring, Samwise Gamgee (the image of this hobbit has its own real basis, but more on that a little later) is the only one who gave it of his own free will. It is also interesting that during the possession of the Ring, Sam, like the others, was also tempted to become the Lord of the Ring, but with only one goal - to destroy Mordor, and in its place to build a wonderful garden, the likes of which do not exist anywhere else in the world.
The friends finally completed their journey to Mount Doom. But at the most crucial moment, Gollum attacked Frodo. However, he immediately fell along with the Ring into an abyss of boiling lava, thereby completing such a dangerous mission entrusted to the hobbits.
The end of travel
Upon returning home, the friends had to raise the hobbits to revolt to free motherland from enemies. After the victory, Sam walked around the entire Shire, planting the territory with new trees to replace those that were destroyed by order of the dark sorcerer Saruman. The saplings of these trees were given to him by the Lady of the Elves, Galadriel. These trees grew much faster than usual and were of extraordinary beauty. After sowing, he had some fertile soil left, which he scattered over one of the areas, which caused the most rapid growth in the entire history of the Shire.
Returning from the War for Middle-earth, Sam decided to get married. His soulmate was Rosie Cotton, with whom, as stated earlier, he had long been in love. They had thirteen children. When the firstborn appeared, Sam learned that Frodo was leaving the Shire and Middle-earth forever, and his path now lay in the Undying Lands. As a keepsake, the hobbit left him his manuscript of their adventures.
In the Shire, Samwise was elected mayor for seven consecutive terms. Having outlived his wife, Sam left the Shire at the age of 102 and sailed to the Gray Havens. As the last Bearer of the Ring, he was given the right to live next to Frodo in the Undying Lands.
Character Creation
Many fans of the writer are sure that Sam is the most important character in this story, not least because of his simple origin.
