Russian pop group "Chelsea", the brainchild of music project“Star Factory” quickly burst onto the pop stage, winning an army of thousands of fans. The names of the charming guys - first four, then three - were repeated by fans more often than other star-manufacturers. The guys presented dozens of wonderful songs to music lovers in the CIS countries and won their own niche in Russian show business.

Chelsea group

You shouldn’t be surprised, because the producer of the project was famous composer, whose track record includes collaborations with, and other pop stars of the country. But the Chelsea team, which appeared after the 6th season of “Star Factory,” stands apart.

Compound

The 6th season of the project, created to support and promote new talents, started in the spring of 2006. Out of 16 thousand applicants, 17 young performers made it to the talent show. Seeing the commonality that unites several soloists into a vibrant group is not an easy task. All the guys are different; they took their first steps in music before participating in a top-rated TV show in different styles and genres.

But with challenging task the show's producer, Viktor Drobysh, did a brilliant job, finding in the guys something that complemented and turned the disparate into a single whole.

Already at the second concert, the producer introduced new bands to the audience. Not all of them successfully continued their careers after the project, but four managed to stay together for a long time. 17-year-old Barnaul resident, 19-year-old Alexey Korzin from Apatity, 21-year-old Muscovite and his peer from Mozdok received a star chance.

Previously, the guys took their first steps in musical career V different directions. Arseny preferred soul performance, Alexey preferred RnB, Roman chose rock, and Denis rapped. But the guys performed their joint debut composition called “Someone else’s Bride” in one breath, demonstrating a unified whole.

The first line-up of the Chelsea group

The first composition became a hit in 2006, in the summer it was heard on all dance floors and in cafes, reached the 2nd step of the “Golden Gramophone” parade of hits on the waves of “Russian Radio” and gained a foothold in this position for 20 weeks.

At first, the four vocalists were called a male boy band, the guys performed at “factory” concerts and reports without a name, but soon the question of the name of the group arose. An announcement appeared on the forum of the television company Channel One about the best option name for the team.

The intrigue ended at the end of the show, at the final concert of the project. On music show at the Olimpiysky sports complex and Sergei Arkhipov presented the men's quartet with a certificate for the Chelsea trademark, which the guys can use in Russia and the CIS countries.

New line-up Chelsea group

For many, the name “Chelsea” is associated with the bohemian area of the British capital. The name of a male band from Russia seemed to make a claim to areas where Europeans had previously reigned. The birthday of the Chelsea group is considered to be June 29, 2006, the day the certificate was presented at the NSC Olimpiysky.

At the end of 2006, the Chelsea group, in addition to four vocalists, had five musicians: three guitarists, a keyboard player and a drummer. In 2011, the Chelsea group underwent changes: the quartet turned into a trio due to the departure of Roman Arkhipov. Arseny Borodin, Alexey Korzin and Denis Petrov remained in the team.

Music

Vocalists have repeatedly refuted the myth of using a soundtrack on the project: the Chelsea group demonstrated “live” instruments and vocals every time at concerts. At a concert organized by the Muz-TV channel in the spring, the Chelsea group was the only one that insisted on singing “live.”

The second hit of the Chelsea band was the composition “The Most Favorite”. The song was performed at Borodin’s last nomination. Soon the children were awarded the “Golden Gramophone” for it.

After the finale of the 6th season of the project, the lead singers of the Chelsea group went on tour around the country and cities of the post-Soviet space. At the concerts the guys presented the entire repertoire. Denis Petrov and Arseny Borodin entertained the guests with performance numbers, enlivening the audience between vocal numbers.

Fans who bought tickets to the performances of the Chelsea group heard their favorite hits “For You”, “ Last call", "Become mine", "Half and half".

All members of the group sing, write lyrics for new compositions, and arrange them. The project featured songs by Alexey Korzin and Denis Petrov. Each of the guys plays some kind of instrument, and Corzine is a multi-instrumentalist. The guys joke that Alexey extracts musical sounds from all surrounding objects that one’s hands can reach.

At the end of 2006, the Chelsea group presented their debut album of the same name, presented 3 remixes and covered old hit“I won’t come near you” by the mega-popular group “Merry Guys” in the 1990s. The presentation of the collection took place in the capital's club "Jelsomino" on the first day of December.

After the presentation, the musicians recorded a new composition with music by Drobysh and lyrics by Lena Stuf called “Love is always right.” He agreed to perform the song with the Chelsea group. In the spring of 2007, the hit was included in rotation, and in the summer the vocalists delighted fans with the new composition “Wings”.

Chelsea's repertoire includes dozens of cover versions of well-known hits. The guys sang musical movie hits different years, to which all age categories of music lovers happily sang along.

At the end of the summer of 2007, the group presented the first video for the hit “The Most Favorite,” which was directed by Vitaly Mukhametzyanov. According to the video director from Ufa, the guys embodied the four elements: fire, water, earth and air. In October 2007, the video clip entered rotation. The video for the composition together with Kirkorov was shot by Oleg Gusev, using the Shuvalov Palace in St. Petersburg. Also in 2007, video clips for the songs “I won’t come to you” and “Wings” appeared.

In 2008, the Chelsea group delighted fans with new compositions “Fly”, “Her Eyes Are Missing” and “Happiness in Every Home”. For the last two songs, lyrics and music were written by Roman Arkhipov. He made a video for the hit “Her Eyes Are Missing.” Among the most striking songs of 2009 are “Point of Return” and “In Dreams and in Reality.” The title of the first hit became the cover of the second album.

In 2011, the charismatic trio was invited to the Channel One project, called “Star Factory. Return". The producers gathered contestants from all seasons, where vocalists from different years competed to reach the finals. In May, the Chelsea group took second place. She was in the lead and received bronze.

In the same year, the Chelsea group presented the songs “I Love” and “We Must”. 2012 was not without surprises. Using words and music, the guys sang the song “My First Day,” and Viktor Drobysh wrote the music for the second hit, called “S.O.S.”

Chelsea group now

In 2016, former participants of the 6th “Star Factory” celebrated the 10th anniversary of the team. The guys came to the anniversary with three Golden Gramophone awards and two albums. Won group of the year twice. But the joint work of Chelsea has been on pause for the past 3 years. The guys recorded their last song, “Don’t Hurt Me,” in 2014.

The ex-manufacturers still perform together, but at the same time they are developing solo projects. In 2015, Arseny Borodin appeared on the popular TV show “ Main stage" and won first place. The soloist performed on New Wave. In 2017, Borodin became a participant in the show "".

Muscovite Roman Arkhipov, who “split away” from the Chelsea group in 2011, lives mainly in America, where he continues to build a musical career. In 2016, on his Instagram page, Roman informed fans about his participation in the creation of the video.

Denis Petrov got married in a luxurious villa in Florence in 2014. His chosen one is aspiring vocalist Anastasia Verkhovskaya. The couple invited three dozen closest relatives and friends to the celebration. Petrov remained in the Chelsea group and participates in the group’s concerts.

Alexey Korzin became a father in May 2016: his wife Katya gave birth to his first child, Petya. The guys from Chelsea were the first to congratulate their colleague.

Corzine continues to participate in the "factory" project, but is also working on his own called Sever. As part of the new project, Alexey presented the single “With You or Alone,” approved by fans.

Initially, Arkhipov was going to introduce rock notes into the usual pop format of “Factory”. Roman succeeded: he sang on the show with such famous bands How Scorpions And Gotthard. Musical preferences

Roman has been interested in rock music since childhood. Favorite bands and performers include Deep Purple, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, AC/DC, Nazareth, White Snake, Velvet Revolvers, Guns’n’Roses, Alice Cooper, Gotthard, Def Leppard, Ozzy Osbourne, Aerosmith, Maroon 5. Among the classics, he prefers Mozart, especially the late one.

"Rock is music that contains masculinity, the music of the misunderstood,” says Roman. – This is a deep style, not only in Lyrics, but also in Music. This music awakens emotions in me, completely different, but only positive! Rock makes you love, rejoice, worry. It, unlike most styles, is able to touch the soul.”

Once at the Star Factory, Roma said that he was going to bring a “heavier note” to the project. And this applies not only to the “factory” format - Roman is convinced that rock music should finally take its rightful place on national stage. This is what he plans to devote his creative career to.

The beginning of a creative journey

Roman learned the intricacies of show business from the age of six, having traveled all over the country in Tatyana Ovsienko’s touring group, whose director is his father. It is not surprising that, constantly rotating in creative environment While communicating with singers and musicians, Roma himself studied music since childhood and sang a lot.

Breaking the voice in adolescence, studying in high school and the hassle associated with preparing to enter a university, for some time relegated dreams of the stage to the background. But at the age of 17, during a trip to America, Roman returned to music again. “I now have a lot of free time and incentive,” he says. “I then started writing my first songs and discovered that I could sing again.”

Since then, the stage has become an integral part of his life. He works as a bass guitarist at Tatiana Ovsienko’s concerts and appears in the “Summer” video for her duet with Viktor Saltykov. As a member of the student council of the Faculty of International Relations of Moscow State University, he meets the head creative group Tamara Alexandrovna Rusakova and becomes a regular participant in university concerts.

"Star Factory"

Realizing the need to gain experience working on the professional stage, Roman takes part in the castings of the Star Factory project three times. And at the beginning of 2006, luck smiled on him along this path: he found himself among the “manufacturers” of the sixth convocation - the wards of Viktor Drobysh.

The four months spent on the project became not only a landmark, but also an unusually productive period in creative career Romana. At first, he did not look too confident compared to his neighbors in the Star House, many of whom, even before joining the project, had considerable stage experience and special vocal education. However, thanks to his talent and efficiency, he managed not only not to get lost against their background, but also to make a big qualitative leap both vocally and in terms of emancipation on stage, revealing a new side from concert to concert and gaining professionalism.

His “factory” piggy bank contains four solo songs - a record that not a single participant of “Factory-6” was able to break, as well as duets with Vladimir Kuzmin (“Pharm of Your Hope”) and Alexander Ivanov (“Dreams”), Sergei Trofimov ( “Wind in the Head”) and Oleg Gazmanov (“Rehearsal for Separation”), Valeria (“Black and White”) and Abraham Russo (“Through Love”), Andrei Sapunov (“Ring”) and Alexey Belov (“Tell Me Why”) "); with the groups “Roots” (“25th floor”), “Earthlings” (“Borsalino”), “Tokyo” (“Who am I without you”), “City 312” (“Out of reach”) and Gotthard (“Heaven” ). In addition, in many numbers Roman played the guitar, participated in extras and backing vocals, and also sang as part of a group that later received the name “Chelsea”. One of the solo songs, “Me and You,” was included in the rotation of Russian Radio and a number of other radio stations even before the end of the project.

Whatever Roman sang at the Factory - pop or chanson - he did not try to copy the manner and style popular artists, remaining true to his idea of adding “heavier notes” to the project format. However, in most to a greater extent he managed to open up in rock numbers. Already his first rock duet with the Swiss group Gotthard on the song “Heaven” brought Roman recognition from viewers of Channel One and MTV. For eight weeks, the duo occupied the first line of the MusicBox channel chart, for which Roman was awarded a personalized disc. The musicians of the Gotthard band themselves were so pleased with the result that they invited Roman to repeat joint performance at the Tochka club, and also gave him one of their songs (“Lift U Up”), which he performed on the factory stage as his second solo number.

After such success, the leader of the Gorky Park group, Alexei Belov, drew attention to the young rock performer, who wrote the compositions “I Won’t Forget” and “Forgive” especially for Roman. WITH latest novel left the “Star Factory” just before the finale. But this departure was not a defeat! “But rock is still alive!” - he said in his farewell speech, confirming that he managed to accomplish his plan - to break the pop format of the project. Confirmation of this is the songs of the Gotthard group, with which Roman Arkhipov (and not the finalists of the project) closed the final concert at the Olimpiysky.

After the end of the project, Roman, like other “manufacturers”, signed a contract with the production center of Viktor Drobysh and went on the “Star Factory - 6” tour as a member of the Chelsea group. In addition to him, the team includes Arseny Borodin, Denis Petrov and Alexey Korzin. The group quickly gains popularity, their songs occupy the top of the charts. Chelsea end the fateful year of 2006 with the title of “best group of the year”, having in their baggage the “Golden Gramophone” for the song “Someone else’s Bride”, a video for the song “The Most Favorite” and a debut album, which included their songs from the “Star Factory” era ”, including Roman’s first solo number “Me and You”.

The group is currently active concert activities, is working on creating a new album, collaborating with popular Russian performers(in particular, with Philip Kirkorov).

However, despite the group’s success, Roman still dreams of a solo career and plans to create his own rock project.

Interests

He loves to travel. For the first time he went abroad in 1995 to the United United Arab Emirates. This was followed by Greece (Crete), Israel (Tel Aviv, Jerusalem), Italy (Venice, Verona), Egypt, Cyprus (Aionapa), Vietnam. For about a year, Roma lived in the USA (Las Vegas), where he studied and worked part-time in a Russian restaurant. From other countries and cities dreams of visiting Paris and South Africa. But to the question “Where would you like to live?” firmly answers: “It’s good to relax abroad, go there for a short period of time, but I want to live in Moscow. Well, basically, I live here.”

Studying English and Spanish.

In addition to keyboards, he plays bass guitar. According to eyewitnesses, he mastered the drum kit in one night, keeping the holiday village awake until the morning.

Favorite animal is scorpion.

He prefers tennis as a sport. If you have free time, visit Gym. Dreams of learning to snowboard or ski.

Favorite colors are black, white and purple.

He prefers expensive and beautiful branded clothing, although he knows how to turn a jacket purchased at the market into a work of hand-made art by sewing scorpions on it. He likes to combine sports and classic clothes with extravagant elements in a rocker style: a long black raincoat, leather pants, metal bracelets and rings on his hands, massive buckles, inscriptions in the rock and roll spirit. But sometimes you just don’t recognize him! Once in his 2nd year, Roma, dressed in blue trousers, a women's jacket and with a cigar in his hands, stood in the company of two classmates in front of the Prague Embassy, holding a blue bag of one of them in his hands. Men walked past them with an exclamation: “Oooh, girls!”, to which Roma indignantly replied: “What girls!?”

Roman is blond from birth curly hair and categorically does not agree to cut them! Although, there were times when teenager Roma shaved his head.

Loves to work in Photoshop. For some time, this hobby even turned into work.

Roman is a very sociable person, loves to communicate with the most different people. Maintains friendly relations with Tatyana Ovsienko and Olga Kormukhina, Alexey Belov and Alexander Erokhin (drummer of “Lube”), musicians of the groups Gotthard and Nazareth, as well as with many other colleagues “in the shop”.

He does not like to discuss his personal life. All we know for sure is that he is not married. Whenever possible, she takes part in raising Nikita’s younger brother, the German shepherd Alice, angry cat and two squirrels.

One of the participants in the “Success” show on the STS channel was former member Chelsea group Roman Arkhipov. For several years now, the performer has been living in America, where he performs as a rock musician. According to Roman, he knows exactly why he came to the project. The first song that Arkhipov performed in front of the experts was the cult ballad “Everything I Do” by Bryan Adams. “StarHit” learned from the singer about his attitude towards vocal projects, working with foreign stars, the problems that Russian artists face in the West, as well as about filming videos for domestic celebrities.

Roman, did you think that you would make it to the finals of the project?

No, I didn't think it would go this far. Initially I wanted to come and present my new song. But somewhere during the second program I got involved and was drawn into competition with other project participants. To some extent, it’s probably more offensive for me to lose than anyone, because I’m a professional artist, which means the demand is twice as great. This is not pride and pride, but an internal assessment of oneself. On the other hand, it is not so offensive for young guys to give in, because for many of them this is the first step towards big stage... When they called me and offered me participation, I was in America and was going to celebrate my birthday. As a result, I had to postpone my plans.

Are you worried?

I have mixed emotions and feelings. It took me time to adapt. On the one hand, I took a step back, as if going down a step - I became a participant again, allowing myself to be assessed from the outside... Therefore, I am, in fact, in a state of stress. I think that not everyone will decide to do such an act. I can say that I am glad to participate in this project, because finally there is an opportunity to show myself from a new side. In Russia, the solo artist Roman Arkhipov was not particularly known after “Star Factory”. There was a Chelsea group and a guy with long hair, who sang in it.

What do you think of the panel of experts? Have you seen the first episode of the show?

Watched. I have known Philip Kirkorov for quite a long time, we worked together, and I also knew Nyusha. However, this did not stop them from being objective in assessing my number. If I performed poorly and was criticized, this approach would be fair. After all, this is a competition, so personal connections should not play any role. Many members are familiar with members film crew and producers, but the demand from everyone is the same. In fact, I thought more about what Gnoyny would say, because he “turns the tables” on many people and can speak harshly about the project participants. However, he still let me through.

Did you know about Gnoiny before the project? By the way, how do you feel about rap battles in general?

No, I didn't listen to him. I know that recently a battle between Oksimiron and the American Dizaster took place in Los Angeles, my friends organized... To be honest, I don’t like this genre of music. I believe that there is already enough negativity in our lives. To me closer image a positive artist who gives people emotions when everything around is gray and dirty. Therefore, I don’t really understand the art of insulting each other, although it, of course, also has its place, since the public is interested.

And how do American colleagues, in particular, Tommy Marolda ( famous producer, worked with imagine Dragons, The Killers and Cher - Approx.), reacted to your participation in the project?

Fine. They said: “Well, great, go.” I even have a video of Randy Jackson, Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora, Whitney Houston's vocal coach and Katy Perry's stylist supporting me. Since the channel cannot be viewed in the US, they do not follow the project. But I will definitely show them the episodes.

Does participating in such a legendary show as “Star Factory” help you? How do you assess the level of other participants in “Success”?

High, there are serious battles on the project, and the casting is very difficult to pass. Many guys have participated in other TV shows, they just may not be as familiar to a wider audience as I am. Of course, participation in the “Star Factory” helps me, as does all the knowledge and experience I have. At the same time, I can’t say that I feel head and shoulders above others. My fame is rather a burden, as it adds responsibility.

Should aspiring artists participate in such television projects?

Yes, of course they are needed. Firstly, it's a chance to be featured on TV. Secondly, the show has a reality element that allows viewers to get to know the performer better and learn more about him as a person - not just as a singing head, but as a interesting personality. Thirdly, a huge plus is that you are allowed to sing original songs. Moreover, this is welcome. I don’t want to say anything bad about other projects, but when you do covers, you don’t become a real artist... “Star Factory” brought a huge number of performers, almost half of our show business is from there. The most important thing begins after the project - some return to the construction site, others to the theater, and still others move on. I believe the producer or manager is playing big role in a musical career. Communication with the press, organizing speeches, social networks - all this is very important.

You keep in touch with other Chelsea members, right?

We parted as adults without conflicts. I am friends with Arseny Borodin, we see each other regularly when I come to Moscow. We communicate with Lesha and Denis less often - everyone has their own affairs and projects, so it doesn’t always work out. Recently they reunited as part of a musical television project - they performed the song “The Most Favorite”.

Many continue to associate you with this group...

Please, I don't have any complexes about my past. I didn’t act in films for adults. Yes, there are those who disown the Star Factory, but I am proud to participate in this project. It was difficult to get there, but I passed good school, worked with many professionals in their field. And what happened to me in America was also a wonderful experience. So let them associate it, it was not the worst group.

What was the most difficult thing when you started to conquer the American scene?

A lot of different problems, I can talk about this for hours. Not only the language and accent, but also the fact that you are starting life over with a new leaf, when you don’t know anyone and have to support your existence. It takes you a while to assimilate and not think about what to live on, and you also have to convince foreign audiences that you are an artist... I went through a lot there and learned a lot. There are, for example, legal nuances - at the very beginning of your career, no one will give you a contract for good conditions, we have to agree with the toughest ones. But you don’t even think about it, you’re just glad that you were accepted. This is why many Russian artists, having worked in the USA for many years, found themselves out of work and earning pennies. Whatever one may say, business comes first abroad.

It is known that you had a difficult period abroad. You said that you worked as a loader...

I took a step back and then rushed forward. In any life trials Faith in God helps me, it’s the only thing that kept me from giving up during that period. Then I lost my job and almost lost the roof over my head, my girlfriend left me. I was alone in a foreign country with no means of support. All I had left was my dog and a bunch of studio equipment. It probably lasted about five or six months, but it seemed to last forever. Until at some point my head just turned on and the strength appeared, and then the circumstances changed.

Roman, in the USA you had the opportunity to work with many foreign stars, in particular with Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora. What is he like in life?

Richie Sambora - kindest person, creative, with an amazing sense of humor. Few people are allowed to working together with musicians of this level. Like a real rocker, Richie has guitars everywhere in his house, even in the toilet, as well as a piano and a bunch of Grammys - a very creative environment... I didn’t work with Bon Jovi himself, but met him several times in the studio. He and I are completely different; he is short.

Has Richie never compared you?

No, I remember once they said to him: “Don’t you think your colleague looks like someone?” However, Richie didn't think I was that much like Bon Jovi. He said I was younger and a better singer.

Who else have you worked with?

With Nickelback, Scorpions, Gothard, AC/DC drummer, Alice Cooper guitarist, Tim Owens from Judas Priest, Randy Jackson... He also performed with Rise Against, Yellowcard, Lostprophets, and many other bands. My songs were mixed by Chris Lord-Algee (one of the most famous American sound engineers, worked with The Rolling Stones, Joe Cocker and Bruce Springsteen - Note). Life generally brought me to big amount people, I remember once even talking to Steven Tyler.

Not everyone gets to work with world-class artists... What have you learned from them?

These are very simple, calm people, with their families and habits. None of them showed arrogance or arrogance. Most of the riders who are then quoted in the press are more shocking, as a rule, young people allow themselves to do this scandalous artists. Most of the people I have worked with have their own religion, whether it is Buddhism, Christianity or another faith. For an artist to be interesting to watch, he must be spiritually filled.

Did you begin to have a different attitude towards Russian show business after that?

It is worth noting that for Lately it has changed significantly in better side, many high-quality projects appeared, in particular, the same “Success”. The only thing I missed here was the opportunity to perform live with the band, but that doesn't make the show any worse. Music is greatly influenced by the Internet, and there are now more opportunities for young artists. At the same time, it cannot be said that our show business has made a qualitative leap forward. A large number have appeared promising performers, but, unfortunately, there is still a rigid format that is still insurmountable. I like what Arseny [Borodin], IVAN, is doing. If Sasha Ivanov fails to achieve anything here, it will be a big disappointment for me. There should be not only music for discos, but also for the soul. You know, I would generally like to create such a “male” label; it seems to me that we lack such performers among young people - real, sincere, slightly rumpled.

I wonder if your loved ones tried to dissuade you from moving abroad?

On the contrary, they supported it. I am constantly in touch with them thanks to social networks- you can always go to Instagram or Facebook to find out who is doing what... I have a lot of business in Moscow, so I come here often. I opened my own video clip production company. Behind Last year shot about a dozen videos for Russian artists, including for Olga Buzova, Nastasya Samburskaya and IVAN. Therefore, I do not break off relations with my homeland, but, so to speak, study abroad. I'm currently preparing an EP in English, it will be released in February. There will also be a video for a joint song with Sasha Ivanov (IVAN), it is in Russian.

Do you take part in the work on the videos yourself?

Of course, I produce the video and select a team that will work on it, making my suggestions.

What impressions did your collaboration with Olga Buzova and Nastasya Samburskaya – two of the most talked about Russian stars – leave you with?

They are quite adequate girls, alive and real. I'm always amazed when Olga Buzova is criticized. It's like she's competing with Sting or Aerosmith. I don’t think there is a big gap between Olga and other artists of her genre. Buzova’s huge plus is that she is who she is. girl with broken hearted who does what she can. The public loves her, and will continue to love her, because Olga is a real workaholic. I can’t say that her music is the limit of perfection, but it is part of Russian reality... Nastasya Samburskaya, for all her originality, is also very close to the people. People understand that she shares her experiences through creativity.

Do artists find you themselves when they want to shoot a video?

In different ways, mainly through word of mouth. I have a large number of connections in the West to do almost anything. It all depends on the budget and desire. For example, for 250 thousand dollars you can film Jared Leto, but is it necessary?
