MOSCOW, December 28. /TASS/. Director Yuri Grymov has been appointed artistic director of the Modern Theater instead of the fired Svetlana Vragova. This was reported to TASS on Wednesday by the press service of the Moscow Department of Culture.

"At the proposal of the Council of Artistic Directors of Moscow Theaters, the Moscow Department of Culture appointed artistic director State budgetary institution culture of the city of Moscow “Moscow Drama Theater “Modern” by Yuri Vyacheslavovich Grymov,” the press service said.

Grymov’s candidacy was also approved by the chairman of the Union of Theater Workers of the Russian Federation, Alexander Kalyagin, the department added.

Grymov is known for his films “The Case of Kukotsky”, “The Collector”, and is now completing the film “The Intimate Diary of Anna Karenina”. In the theater, Grymov, in particular, staged "Flowers for Algernon" (Russian Academic Youth Theater).

Grymov about the Modern Theater

“This proposal was unexpected for me,” the department’s press service quoted Grymov as saying. “I know this theater well. That concept original theater with multi-faceted stages is very interesting for me, this is what is close to me." The director added that he was always "interested in working not in a classical theater space, but in the possibility of combining different forms and genres."

Grymov noted that the theater has its own traditions. “Which of us has not gone to “Katerina Ivanovna” and does not remember this wonderful performance?!,” the director continued. “But it is clear that time takes its toll and communicating with the audience in the language of aesthetics 20 years ago is probably no longer entirely correct , I would like to bring something new, while respecting the traditions laid down by Svetlana Vragova."

Dismissal of the Enemy

Svetlana Vragova founded the Modern Theater, which from 1988 to 1993 was called the Studio Theater on Spartakovskaya. On December 8, the website of the Moscow Department of Culture reported that “due to numerous violations in the management of financial and economic activity"theatre" identified by the Chief control management of the city of Moscow, Department of Culture of the city of Moscow in accordance with Article 278 Labor Code The Russian Federation terminated the contract with the head of the theater S.V. Vragova-Gurdzhan."

Earlier in an interview with TASS, Vragova noted that she would like to remain the artistic director of the theater; also, in her opinion, the theater could introduce the position of director who would be responsible for financial issues.

Must take a step towards the team

Yuri Grymov must take a step towards the team. This opinion was expressed in an interview with TASS by the director of the Vakhtangov Theater Kirill Krok, who worked as the director of Modern for 10 years.

“I worked at the Modern Theater for 10 years, however, for the last seven years I have nothing to do with it,” Krok noted. “As a person, knowledgeable about theater, I want to wish Grymov success in his new post. First of all, he must take a step towards the theater staff, which contains talented people."

According to Kroc, “only through joint efforts can Modern be brought back from oblivion, in which the theater, unfortunately, has been for the last five years.”

The Modern Theater is one of the most famous places in the capital, where theater fans can enjoy the most advanced and modern stage works. For three decades in a row, this center of art and drama has never ceased to surprise and delight its guests with bright, original productions. The theatrical repertoire is varied - this includes productions created according to the most modern plays Russian and foreign authors, as well as dramatizations classical works presented to guests in unusual, original interpretations. Its convenient location in the city center makes the center a popular cultural destination.

Its history began in 1987. It was then that the state allocated to the youth experimental theater-studio large building on Spartakovskaya Square. The beautiful mansion, built at the beginning of the twentieth century according to the design of the famous Capitol architect Dulin, has undergone much historical events. IN different time various departments were located here, but by the end of the twentieth century, it was decided to transfer the building to a young promising theater studio. Already the first performances - “Dear Elena Sergeevna”, “...Looking for a meeting” and others - aroused great audience interest.

Feature artistic approach To theatrical productions turns mainly to modern, new plays. Performances in which famous masters played - Spartak Mishulin (“Happy Event”), Vladimir Zeldin (“Uncle’s Dream”) and other masters have always been very popular among the audience. theatrical arts. Currently, the artistic director of the center is the famous director Yuri Grymov.

Today, guests of the center can see bright, subtle stage projects - there is a place for dramatic productions, comedies, as well as performances for the youngest spectators. The theater space includes several stages, restaurant areas, as well as multifunctional rooms. Modern technical equipment allows us to carry out projects of any level of complexity. The building can accommodate more than five hundred guests. Thanks to the architectural features, the performances are perfectly visible from anywhere in the halls. To touch the world of beauty, you can now buy tickets to the Modern Theater.

Grymov, who has proven himself more than once as a theater director (productions at the RAMT and so on), speaking about “an unexpected appointment”, no, no, and jumped to the sore subject of Russian cinema, in which he is now “completely disappointed”:

Our cinema as an industry has disappeared, but the theater, thanks to enthusiasts, has retained its face. Theater is the most provocative living art, which cannot be said about domestic cinema, which has lost its audience, and nothing good will definitely happen to it in the next five years. And it’s not without reason that the first thing we will do is organize a children’s studio at Moderna - we will not educate artists or directors, but future viewers, so that it doesn’t turn out like with the cinema audience, who come to the hall only to eat (popcorn, - I'M WITH.), and what he looks at at the same time - it doesn’t matter...

Grymov was appointed only a month ago, but he managed to get acquainted with the administration and the production team (“they are good professionals”), and also fired four artists out of 35 due to their “disbandment”.

“I’m sorry that the actors of “Modern” are people unknown in the media,” the new artistic director sympathizes, “in my opinion, an actor should work everywhere - in the theater, in cinema, in TV series, he becomes trained. Therefore, there can be no slavery or serfdom on my part here: work in different places, become famous.

Grymov’s project is to make “Modern” a kind of open platform, free for other actors and directors: in particular, the main roles in the upcoming April premiere of the utopia based on Aldous Huxley “O Marvelous new world" will be performed by guest stars - Anna Kamenkova and Igor Yatsko (the latter will also play in the subsequent work of "Modern").

“I absolutely will not tolerate actors doing nothing and at the same time receiving a meager salary,” said Grymov, “we have calculated that if we don’t stage anything at all, we will be in the red by 12 million rubles!” Moreover, after the scandal with Vragova, 10% of our funding was removed. So they have to work very hard and get paid well for it. Let's say, in "Brave New World" the entire troupe is involved - about 30 people.

It is clear that few enemy performances will remain in the Moderna repertoire, now without a firm sign at the end (the successful and well-attended “Loop” will be moved from a hall with 70 seats to a hall with 300 seats):

I live on the territory common sense: the viewer doesn’t walk - we need to film!

“It seems that the oxygen was pumped out there,” nothing has happened for the last 15 years: Grymov was extremely surprised that the main hall was white- no darkening for you, nothing... Now both the hall and the foyer are being repainted. New lighting and sound equipment is being purchased. The scene is being reconstructed. A special place is given to the buffet: Grymov is annoyed when during intermission everyone crowds into a line, then grabs a sandwich and runs back into the hall. Now you can order a mini-lunch (lunch) in advance on the website and forget about the queues.

In general, I must say that theater today begins with a website. The first meeting takes place there. That’s why we pay such attention to our electronic platform: for example, we’ll post interviews with different theatrical figures on current topics(Grymov hopes to receive the first of them from the brilliant director of the Vakhtangov Theater Kirill Krok, - I'M WITH.), let's open a channel on YouTube.

By the way, after negotiations with firefighters, Grymov is going to expand the main hall to 400 seats. In total, he promises to release 3 adults and one children's performance, moreover, he will direct two himself, “to create a vector and style,” and he will actively invite directors (they will organize open competitions): “otherwise today no one is looking for talented strange people, but they do exist!”

What is theater? - The artistic director summarizes. - This is not a building (there is no need to tie it to architecture) and not budgets. Theater is people. Theater is always a statement. Well, one theater shouldn’t be similar to another. Our new “Modern” is a theater of hope and light, a person in the audience can experience all sorts of emotions, but there is never any need to “finish off” him!
