History of creation and team

If we talk about the members of the Rammstein group, then a book is not enough, because the biography of each musician is full of interesting facts. For example, the founder of the band and part-time guitarist used to practice wrestling, and the frontman was seriously interested in swimming. He had the opportunity to compete at the Olympics, but due to an injury to his abdominal muscles, he had to forget about his sports career.

As for the history of the group, the team was formed in Berlin, this event took place in January 1994. However, it all started much earlier. The fact is that since childhood, guitarist Richard Kruspe dreamed of becoming a rock star and conquering the whole world with his music.

As a child, Richard was a fan of American KISS bands. A poster with musicians who impressed not only with their songs, but also with provocative makeup, hung in the boy’s room and was a favorite piece of furniture. While abroad, Kruspe purchased a guitar to sell it in the GDR for good money, but when unknown girl I asked the guy to show me a couple of chords, he decided to impress her.

Trying to interest the listener, Richard indistinctly and intuitively went through guitar strings one after another. To his surprise, such an improvisation impressed the Fräulein, who praised young man, saying it has potential. This became a kind of impetus and motivation for Kruspe, and besides, he realized that the girls were crazy about guitarists.

The guy understood that it would be difficult to learn the game on his own, so he entered the music school, where he surprised the teacher with his talent and desire: obsessed with guitar rhythms, Kruspe studied six hours a day.

It is not surprising that Richard soon acquired a goal: he wanted to create a rock band, especially since he already had an idea of ​​​​an ideal musical group. Inspired by his beloved KISS, the young man dreamed of combining hard rock with the electronic sound of industrial.

Initially, Kruspe performed for little-known musicians, starting his career in Orgasm Death Gimmick. But then fate connected him with Till Lindemann, who was a drummer in the band First Arsch. The men began to communicate closely, and soon Richard persuaded Till to become a member of a new rock band.

By the way, Lindemann was surprised by his friend’s persistence, because he did not consider himself a talented musician: when Till was little, his mother told him that instead of singing, he only made noise. However, having become a full member of Rammstein, Till did not give up and tried to achieve the desired sound.

It is known that the vocalist interned with the star opera house. To develop the diaphragm, Lindemann sang with a chair raised above his head and also did push-ups, which achieved significant results. Kruspe and Lindemann were then joined by bassist Oliver Rieder and drummer Christoph Schneider.

Thus, the Rammstein group was formed in the German capital. It is noteworthy that the original composition of the group has never changed and has survived to this day, which is rare in the rock scene. Although the idea of ​​creating musical group belongs to Richard Kruspe, and the center of attention of fans is Lindemann, it cannot be said that the rest of the Rammstein members remain in the shadows.

If we talk about the name of the group, it arose spontaneously. It is worth noting that the Germans love to make up various neologisms, which is what Christoph Schneider, Paul Landers and Christian Lorenz did when they came up with a name for their rock band.

“We wrote Rammstein with two “m”s because we didn’t know that the name of the city is written with one. At first we called ourselves that as a joke, but the name stuck to us like an unloved nickname. We were still looking for: Milch (Milk), or Erde (Earth), or Mutter (Mother), but the name was already fixed,” the guys admitted in an interview.

By the way, the word “Rammstein” is translated into Russian as “ramming stone,” so some fans draw an analogy with.

The nickname that had already stuck to the guys played with them cruel joke. The fact is that in 1988 an air show was held in the town of Ramstein. Three military aircraft were conducting demonstrations, but instead of a beautiful maneuver in the air, a collision occurred and the planes crashed into a crowd of people.

The musicians learned about this tragedy after they had already named the band. Having become popular, the group for a long time distanced itself from the relationship between its name and the location of the tragedy. But sometimes, in order not to answer already boring questions, the “Rammas” say that in this way they paid tribute to those who died in the disaster.

On February 19, 1994, Rammstein won the competition for young bands in Berlin, performing with the hits “Das alte Leid”, “Seemann”, “Weißes Fleisch”, “Rammstein”, “Du Riechst So Gut” and “Schwarzes Glas”. Thus, the guys received the right to record in a professional studio.

After successful tests, the musicians signed a contract with Motor Music, only the recording of the debut album moved slowly, because the “ramms” worked not in their native Germany, but in Sweden, under the control of producer Jacob Helner. This union, which continues to operate to this day, turned out to be very successful.

Then the Germans did not yet know how to act in the world of show business, but one thing was clear - the guys needed a person who could guide them in the right direction. To find a producer, the guys went to stores and wrote out names on the covers. The first collaboration was unsuccessful, but the second time they came across Helner, who also became the author of the remix for the song “Du Hast”.

The debut album "Herzeleid", which translates as "Heartache", was released on September 29, 1995. It is noteworthy that the cover of the collection, where men stand naked against the backdrop of a flower, caused a strong reaction from critics who noted that the “Rammas” exalt themselves as the “master race”. The cover was later changed.

The album, where the guys demonstrated the genres of Neue Deutsche Härte and industrial metal music, included 11 songs with different semantic diversity. Rammstein love to shock the public, so for those who learn German, the translation of some songs can be a real shock, but others see it as a highlight.

For example, the single “Heirate mich” is about necrophilia, “Laichzeit” is about incest, and “Weißes Fleisch” is about a maniac who tried to rape his victim. But it cannot be said that all German hits are imbued with black humor and cruelty: very often in Rammstein’s repertoire there are lyrical texts about love (“Stirb Nicht Vor Mir”, “Amour”, “Rosenrot”).

In addition, men delight fans with ballads. The song “Dalai Lama” is an interpretation of a work called “The Forest King”.

As for the development of their career after the release of the first album, the musicians waited for the next studio recording for several years. The second collection of songs, “Sehnsucht,” was released in 1997 and immediately went platinum, but the third studio album, “Mutter” (2001), brought the guys worldwide fame.

Rammstein was founded in 1994 in Berlin by guitarist Richard Kruspe. My musical career he started in West Germany in the group "Orgasm Death Gimmick", having escaped from the GDR in 1989. On August 28, 1988, at the Ramstein air base, during an air show with the participation of the Italian aerobatics team Frecce Tricolori, three planes collided, as a result of which 80 people were killed and more than three hundred were injured (the song of the same name “Rammstein” tells about this tragedy at the air base). According to one version, the Rammstein musicians were not aware of this tragedy when they came up with the name of the group.

It was invented by Christoph Schneider, Paul Landers and Christian Lorenz. Having become popular, the group for a long time distanced itself from the connection between their name and the name of the place of the tragedy. The double “m” in the name made it possible to explain the word as a designation for a stone ram, but this option was voiced much later.

Texts can be divided into album and non-album. Since each album has its own theme and concept, the lyrics of the songs included in it must correspond to them. For example, the second album of the group Sehnsucht is dedicated to strange and perverted desires. Each song on this album describes one of them: "Tier" ("Beast") - incest, "Bestrafe mich" ("Punish me") - sadomasochism, "Bück dich" ("Bend over") - violence, adultery. The album “Liebe ist für alle da” (“Love for everyone”), dedicated to love, is also indicative in this regard. As a bonus, there were 5 tracks that were not included in the album because their lyrics were not related to its theme.

Till rarely uses obscene language. The main provocative effect is due to the theme, the semantic load of the text, which balance on the brink of morality and/or aesthetics, although sometimes they step over them without any problems. Literary hero texts - as a rule, a person flawed in some way from a traditional point of view - a maniac, a pervert, or simply a character obsessed with something with a non-standard view of things. Many texts are characterized by anatomy and varying degrees of sadomasochism.

Already at the beginning of the group’s existence, the media of some countries, and primarily German, often accused the musicians of right-wing radical tendencies. The reason for this was the Rammstein show, designed in the style of the Third Reich, lyrics, the meaning of which can be interpreted in two ways, and the prevailing theme of violence and brutality. Criticism intensified after the video for the single "Stripped" was shot in 1998 using fragments of documentaries Leni Riefenstahl "Olympia" (film about the XI Summer Olympic Games 1936 in Berlin). Despite the fact that some fragments from the video were removed, accusations against the group of spreading “fascist” views and idealizing “National Socialist” aesthetics continued. It was forbidden to show this clip on television before 10 pm. Lindemann later admitted that it was a provocation, they crossed the border, and this will not happen again.

Several Rammstein singles reached the top ten in Germany. Rammstein performed at the summer festival Rock Am Ring in front of 100,000 people in 1998 together with the Rolling Stones, The Prodigy, Guano Apes, as well as on August 22 and 23 of the same year in Berlin at the Wuhlheide Festival stadium (the show was attended by more than 17,000 Rammstein fans). And finally, at the beginning of autumn, the fourth album was released, called Reise, Reise, which is very different from the style of the group’s past albums, which, however, did not prevent it from going platinum. The album was immediately accompanied by a tour, during which a single from the album, “Ohne dich,” was released. During the Reise, Reise Tour, the show lost many special effects (plastic phallus, burning cloak), but acquired new ones instead.

A tour followed in early 2005 with by Apocalyptica, after which the single “Keine Lust” and its video were released. In September, a video is released, and then the single “Benzin”, the song of the same name from which will be included on the next, fifth album of the group. Next month the album itself, called Rosenrot, is released, which contained 7 old tracks that were not included in the last album, and 4 new compositions. The single "Rosenrot" followed in December. In 2006, a concert DVD of Völkerball was released, planned for 2004, but released later. The disc received mostly positive reviews.

In 2008, after a three-year break, it became known that the group was recording a new album. On September 18, 2009, the first single from the new album, “Pussy,” was released, and in mid-December, the video “Ich tu dir weh” was released. The album itself, Liebe ist für alle da, was released on October 16. On April 23, 2010, the premiere of the “Haifisch” video took place. The album was released on two discs - the first disc contained the album itself, the second – additional five songs recorded during the work on the album. The video clip for the song Pussy became very scandalous: throughout almost the entire video there are porn inserts demonstrating sexual acts with the participation of all the musicians of the group. As the group members later said, these were understudies. The video was banned from being shown on television.

In 2010, Russian concerts took place, and later the first concert was held in Minsk. This show became the most scandalous concert event in the history of Belarus. First, the veterans' council, and then the moral council, consisting of church leaders and members of the writers' union, called on the country's government to cancel the concert, accusing the team of "blatantly promoting homosexuality, sadomasochism and other perversions, cruelty, violence and obscene language" and stating that Rammstein threaten “Belarusian statehood”. Nevertheless, the concert was sold out, attracting a record number of visitors: more than 11,000 people. On March 9, 2010 the group visited Kyiv for the first time. The first concert in Ukraine gathered about 10,000 people near the stage.

On November 22, 2012, Rammstein announced the release of the video album Videos 1995-2012, which was released on December 14, 2012. It includes all the group’s videos, videos about their creation, as well as 2 new videos for the song “Mein Herz Brennt”, released as a single for the video album. Biography
Thiel spent his childhood in a village called Wendisch-Rambow, near the city of Schwerin in northeastern Germany. It was there that he began working - he ran a basket weaving workshop.

Regarding the family in which he grew up, we can say the following: father - Werner Lindemann - artist, writer, poet (wrote 34 books), with whom Thiel had a very tense relationship. In his book “Mike Oldfield in a Rocking Chair” (“Mike Oldfield im Schaukelstuhl”), Werner Lindemann describes, as in a diary, a conflict with his 19-year-old son Till (though in the book the hero’s name is Timm). Til's mother, soon after the divorce, when her son was 12 years old and his sister was 6, married a second time to a citizen of the United States of America.

On February 4, 1993, Werner Lindemann died. Gravestone with his name is located in the Zickhusen cemetery. Death was the result of heavy drinking. Oddly enough, he died in church. What he did there, or what brought him there, is unknown. Til, for some reason, never visited his father’s grave. There is also a version that the song “Heirate mich” is dedicated to him, or is somehow connected with him. In Rostock, a school is named after Werner Lindemann. Thiel was involved in swimming; At the age of 10 he entered a sports school that trained reserves for the then GDR national team, which he brilliantly graduated from in 1979-1980. In 1978, Thiel was a member of the GDR team at the European Junior Swimming Championships. He was supposed to compete at the '80 Olympics in Moscow. But he failed. His swimming career ended, soon after arriving in Italy for the competition, he left the hotel where the team was located, together with his girlfriend, in order to see the capital of Italy - Rome, since before Til had not had the opportunity to freely travel abroad . The next day he returned to the hotel, but trouble could not be avoided; he was summoned for interrogation by the Stasi (the security service of the GDR). But this is not the only reason why Til leaves swimming; the main reason was an injury to the abdominal muscles during training.

At that time he was communicating with his friend Richard Kruspe. It was Richard who suggested Til to sing in new group, which I have long dreamed of creating. Moreover, Til himself was very surprised by such a request, because he never noted that he had any special vocal abilities.

However, Richard said that he often heard him sing while weaving baskets, and was sure that he would make an excellent vocalist. Til did not refuse the offer. French astronomer Jean-Claude Merlin, who is a fan of the group, discovered a minor planet in the asteroid belt in 2001. Asteroid No. 110393 received the name “Rammstein” from him, in honor of the group.

After a break of four years, in 2009 it became known that the group was recording a new album.
