Text in English with translation “My city – My town”

I want to tell you a little about my town. I’m sure that you’ll like it and maybe you will even have a wish to visit it. Believe me, your visit won’t be in vain. In my town you will find a great number of various parks and sideshows, clubs and restaurants, movies and theaters and many other interesting sites.

I have been living in… for 10 years. I moved here after graduation from university, got fixed up in a job and met my better half. As you see, many things connect me with this town. I live not far from the center. It will take me only 10 minutes by car to get to the central part of the town. If I take a bus, the road trip will take 20 minutes or longer. And this happens mainly because of the regular bus stops. I’m not very demanding of choosing a means of transportation, but I can say for sure that at times going by public transportation is even more fascinating. One may look through the window, enjoy greenery and nature, watch passengers and delight in wonderful weather.

My town has everything you may dream of, cultural establishments and events prevail. Libraries, gyms and sports grounds, gardens, swimming pools, courts and hobby-clubs – this is what makes both children and adults happy. We also adore fairs and festivals which often take place in our town.

I was born in a big city and I really love it.

The city amazingly combines historical buildings and all the modern tendencies. I love the center of the city. It is called the Old Town. It has these beautiful narrow streets with paving stones, beautiful colored houses and old churches. At night the city is lightened up and looks breathtaking.

We have lots of places for the young people to visit. There are a lot of cafes and interest clubs. For example, there are several English-clubs opening every year. They provide free movie-evenings and speaking clubs. There are also lots of yoga classes and sport places to attract people to a healthy life.

We also have various museums and art galleries. There are some old traditional museums like The National Art Museum and the new ones like The House of Pictures. What is more, to popularize the places there are days when you can go there for free.

I like shopping and my city provides lots of shopping centers to visit. Me and my friends can go shopping, relax in the cafe and go to the movie. And all that is in one place.

There are also two aqua parks to spend the weekend at. There are a lot of visitors especially in summer. More and more people go to the dolphinarium, where you can not only watch the performance, but also swim with these amazing animals.

So my native town has a lot to show. And there is no way I’m getting away from it.

My city

I live and study in Kazan city, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. It’s my native city as I was born here. Kazan is located on the left bank of the Volga river and it was founded more than one thousand years ago. So it is a very old place, with rich and fascinating history. The population of my city is multinational and enormous: about one and a half million people. Kazan has changed greatly from the moment when I was born and it has grown much bigger, but still it keeps its own traditions and some strict religious rules. The people of my city are friendly and hospitable, polite and intelligent to my mind.

The capital of Tatarstan is a city of contrasts: there are quarters of modern high-rise buildings and districts with old historical places; some districts are awfully noisy and crowded, with long traffic jams, the others are very clean and quiet. Our transport system is really busy: we have a railway station, a big river port, an airport, buses, trolleybuses, trams and trains of the Kazan metro which was opened in 2005.

There are plenty of impressive sights for our guests in the historical center of the city: the Kremlin of the 10 th century, the Millenium bridge, the Kul-Sharif mosque and other beautiful cathedrals and mosques. Kazan has unique museums, able to suit any taste: the Fine Arts museum, the museum of Leo Tolstoy, the National museum of Tatarstan, the museum of Zoology.

My native city is a recognized sports capital of Russia. It has hosted many important sports events. The International Summer Universiade of 2013 was among them. And in 2018 our city is going to host the FIFA World Cup.

I feel proud of my birthplace and I am sure that Kazan is the place which is worth visiting at least once in our life. I know that many tourists from abroad come here and they feel enraptured with the local sights.
