The future Eurovision winner was born and spent his childhood in the capital of Portugal, Lisbon. His ancestors belonged to the old noble family of Da Silva, which dates back to the mid-eighteenth century. 
Salvador has an older sister, Louise, who played a huge role in his creative destiny - she wrote the song with which the young man was destined to win Eurovision.
The boy was born with a severe congenital heart defect, so ordinary children's entertainment was not available to him. Deprived of active games, he became seriously interested in music from an early age, and for 10 years he became a participant in the Bravo Bravíssimo music festival.
In high school, Salvador fell ill with psychology and even decided to devote his future life to this hobby - he wanted to become a sports psychologist, thus combining his passion for understanding the human psyche and his love for football.
After school, he entered the Faculty of Applied Psychology at the University of Lisbon, and studied for some time in the USA under a student exchange program. However, his love for music won, and the young man dropped out of university and entered a famous music school in Barcelona, which he successfully graduated from in 2014.
Salvador Sobral: about a new heart, image and music
In 2009, he took seventh place in the popular POP IDOL competition in Portugal, and four years later he organized his own group, Noki Woi. The team existed for two years, released their debut album, performed in bars and at youth parties, but broke up without achieving success.

Soon Salvador decided to start a solo career. In 2016, his album Excuse me was released, some of the songs for which were written by his sister Louise, already a well-known composer in Portugal by that time. It was she who actively supported her brother’s idea to take part in the Eurovision selection and became his lucky ticket to a new life, writing for him the romantic ballad “Amar pelos dois” (“Love of two”) literally overnight. 
The organizers took into account the health status of the Portuguese performer and did everything possible to make the performance as comfortable as possible for the seriously ill singer. He missed the first rehearsals, in which his sister replaced him, and took part only in the general “run-through” of the concert. His performance took place on a small stage, and the spotlights were dimmed as much as possible so as not to provoke an undesirable stressful situation for the body.

Until this time, representatives of Portugal had never even made it into the top ten in the entire history of the competition, so Salvador’s victory came as a complete surprise both to the audience and to the artist himself. The song Amar pelos dois performed by El Salvador scored the maximum number of points in the history of the competition, and Portugal became the host of the next song festival, which will take place in 2018.
Standing on stage with the treasured crystal microphone in his hands, the singer wholeheartedly thanked his sister for her invaluable help and support and advised other performers to buy her songs.

However, the competition organizers decided that his sweater contained a “political message” and banned him from wearing it until the end of Eurovision, citing the event’s set of rules. The singer insisted that his message was not political, but social.

It is also known that the relatives of the representative of Portugal, Salvador Sobral, warned the management of the Eurovision Song Contest in advance about the artist’s health situation, and they met Salvador’s relatives halfway, allowing him to appear at the competition in Kyiv only literally at the very last moment.
Unfortunately, not everyone was so happy about the exception to the rule. Salvador Sobral studied jazz, he studied it at one of the most prestigious schools in Barcelona, created his own group there and even released a live album.
When Salvador Sobral finally returned to his homeland, he almost immediately began working on his solo album, it was the result of all his wanderings, he called the album “Excuse Me,” which proved that he had succeeded as a singer.
Salvador Sobral has heart problems and, unfortunately, very serious ones, he has a heart defect and in the very near future the young man will have to undergo a complex operation, however, a donor is required for it. Due to his illness, Salvador had a special rehearsal schedule, and his sister Louise not only accompanied her brother, in an emergency she would replace him on stage.

According to the results of voting by spectators in 42 countries and members of the jury of the song tournament, the singer scored a total of 758 points. The 27-year-old representative of Portugal performed the composition Amar Pelos Dois. By the way, the author of the song was Salvador’s sister Louise Sobral.
As soon as the presenters announced the name of the winner of the competition, the singer took the stage and stated that at Eurovision, artists always present compositions that contain a certain meaning:
What I'm saying is that we live in a world of fickle, festival music that has no substance, and I think that might be a victory for music with meaning. Music is not fireworks, music is a feeling. So let's try to change that and bring back real music.
The performer's sister came on stage with him and could not contain her emotions. After the end of the competition, journalists managed to talk to the girl, and she told why her brother became the winner.

Yulia Samoilova, who was supposed to represent our country at Eurovision 2017, was denied entry into Ukraine by local authorities. They stated that the artist violated state legislation, since in 2015 Yulia traveled to Crimea, where she had a performance. That’s why the SBU restricted the singer’s entry for three whole years. By the way, we already know that Channel One refused to broadcast the event.
