You can sew a graduation dress for kindergarten and 11th grade with your own hands. We will present a master class on sewing two models and 64 step-by-step photographs.

The content of the article:

To avoid doing this at the last moment, it’s time to choose the style of your future prom dress. For girls and girls such a day is special. Young ladies want to be the most beautiful at graduation in kindergarten, school, and college. Of course, you can buy a dress, but such elegant models are not cheap. It is much more economical to create a robe yourself.

DIY graduation dress for 11th grade

Having completed the ninth or 11th grade, the children, together with their teachers and parents, prepare for the graduation party. You need to develop a script in advance, decorate the hall, and think about where such a joyful event will be celebrated. And, of course, you need to prepare a beautiful robe in advance. We present to your attention models that are quite simple to sew.

If you can’t do this right away, you will understand the intricacies of the sewing process, which the next master class will cover. After reading it, you will decide whether you can create a similar robe with your own hands or whether it is better to buy a dress for prom.

Before you create it, you need to prepare:
  • textile;
  • threads;
  • a suitable sewing machine needle;
  • pattern;
  • scissors;
  • tailor's pins;
  • chalk or disappearing marker.
For a prom dress, you need to buy elegant fabric. These include chiffon and silk. Chiffon flows beautifully, but working with such material is not easy for beginners. For inexperienced seamstresses, silk is more suitable. There are many varieties of such matter. You can buy satin, thick or thinner.

Dense silk taffeta holds its shape, drapes well, and does not slip out from under the machine’s foot. Beginners should pay attention to this canvas.

Choose suitable threads. They should match the color of the material, be thin, but durable. Silk fabrics need to be cut with special silk scissors.

For the machine it is better to buy Microtex needle threads. They have well-sharpened tips and will not leave significant holes in the seam.

If you have a regular needle, then take a fine one No. 60–70. This is suitable for silk fabrics.

The canvas needs to be prepared before cutting. To do this, it is soaked in water to which 1 tbsp is added. l. spoon of vinegar. Then, during subsequent washes, the silk fabric will not fade or lose color. It needs to be lightly squeezed, then dried until damp and ironed. If you have satin silk, then do not twist this one when squeezing.

Now you know what you need to make a prom dress. You can start cutting it out. In this case, it is a dress cut at the waist with a fluffy Tatyanka skirt. For it you will need a pattern for the front and back. The front one is one-piece, and the back one consists of two parts. Pay attention to the darts, they need to be stitched.

The following prom dress pattern is suitable.

Then the skirt will be flared, consisting of several wedges. The bodice darts are located on the shoulder and at the bottom, and on the back - only at the bottom. You can make the back without darts, and for it to fit well, the right and left halves consist of two parts.

If the fabric is translucent, then you need to sew a dress with a lining. The lining is also created according to the main pattern.

If the shelf and back are one-piece, then place the patterns of these parts on the fabric folded in half. Pin the paper templates to the fabric and cut out with a small margin on all sides for seam allowances. Now you need to remove the pins and sew folds in each of the 4 parts along the marked lines.

Since silk fabric is very delicate, so that it does not fray, it is better to immediately process the stitched seams using a French seam. See how to make it.

The blue line in this photo indicates the final seam. But first you will do the auxiliary. To do this, fold the two canvases with the wrong sides facing each other and make a stitch on the face, retreating 5 mm to the cut point. Make a seam. In this photo it is lilac.

Now turn the fabric over and press the seam to one side.

At a distance of 7 mm from the resulting fold, you need to make the next seam on the wrong side.

Iron it in one direction and see how the seam will look from the back and front sides.

Use it to process darts on transparent and thin fabrics. First you need to mark the dart with a basting stitch.

Sew parallel to the basting, stepping back from it inward by 5 mm.

Trim off the excess. Turn the fabric over so that the wrong side is facing out and make another stitch.

Now you can compare what a regular dart looks like and one you made using a French seam and cutting off the excess.

When you sew a fitted prom dress, you will need to sew a zipper into the side. To prevent the fabric from stretching in this place, you need to stitch regaline here too.

See how the dress will look in this place.

To do this, you just need to iron the seam in one direction. This dress requires a full skirt. It is gathered on top. To do this, sew a double stitch with large stitches, then pull the thread to gather the top of the skirt.

This is how it will turn out.

Now you need to sew the finished bodice to the skirt. Before this, you sewed its components together and finished the neckline with bias tape.

Next, using the same elastic tape, you need to process the armhole. Fold in 1st and 2nd center seams at the back. Sew loops from a strip of fabric on the left, buttons on the right.

To get buttons to match, here's what you need to do. Place the button on the wrong side of the fabric, outline with an allowance. Gather the cut fabric onto the thread with a needle, tighten it, and tie a knot on the back side.

This is such a charming robe. To sew another one, you will need a prom dress pattern.

As you can see, this consists of a one-piece front, two back parts, and two sleeves. The skirt here is very interesting. First you need to cut a truncated oval from the fabric. Where this piece is smaller will be the front of the skirt. At the back it is longer and flows beautifully.

You can make a straight skirt for a dress and sew this interesting peplum to it.

The pattern is given below. As you can see, the skirt is straight at the top with darts. They need to be stitched and ironed. Then the skirt pieces are sewn together in pairs. At the back it consists of two parts, at the top there is a clasp and a wide belt. You need to hem a basque underneath it, also making folds on it first.

Often on special occasions it is necessary to wear a full skirt. You can sew it from satin by watching the next master class.

How to sew a petticoat with your own hands?

This model will require quite a lot of fabric. But such a petticoat will have a shape and will be very fluffy. You will need four and a half meters of 3 m wide canvas.

You will sew gathered strips of fabric onto the base, which is a circle skirt. In this photo you can see how big it should be and how many frills are needed.

R1 is obtained if you add 10 cm to the hip volume and divide the resulting value by Pi (3.14). And R2 comes out if you add the length of the skirt to R1. When calculating the number of flounces, first mark 10–15 cm for the belt. This is where you will not sew them. Now look at how many rows of shuttlecocks you need. It depends on the length of the skirt. Here's how to cut the ruffles.

The bottom one will be the shortest, and each subsequent one will be longer than the previous one. This can be seen schematically in the next photo.

This cutting is suitable for soft batting. If it is semi-rigid or rigid, then you need to make single frills, sequentially sewing them to the base of the half-sun.

First you need to cut out the first frill and gather it. If the length is not enough, you need to sew one frill from several strips. Depending on the desired fullness of the skirt, each frill should be 2–4 times larger than the final one. Sew the parts on a machine, placing a seam in the middle of the frill. Now pull the thread, you will get something like this.

Fold in half horizontally to create a double piece from one strip. After that you will sew it onto the base.

Your prom dress will be amazing if you keep it up. Now you need to go higher up the base and stitch on the next part, which will already be twice the size of the previous one.

And here is what this skirt looks like at this stage on a mannequin.

If necessary, sew a third frill on top, proceeding in the same way.

Cut out a wide elastic band to fit your waist, sew in the center, and stitch to the top of the petticoat.

There is also an interesting way to make your skirt look fuller. For this purpose, regilin tape is used.

Check out a few ways to use it. Regilin is a synthetic tape that can be of different hardness and width.

There is also a soft one, the width of which varies from one and a half meters to 10 cm.

There are two ways to sew on regilin - closed and open. Its choice depends on the place where the tape will be sewn and on how rigid the bottom of a particular part should be. If you decide to make a prom dress with a flounce along the neckline, you can reinforce it with regilin. To prevent this auxiliary part from being visible, you need to sew on the regilin using a closed method. To do this, tuck the bottom, making an allowance that is equal to the width of the regiline tape. Add another 1 cm.

Fold up the bottom of the frill. Do this again so that the width of the frill is equal to the width of the hemline, iron.

Now put regilline tape into this hem and stitch it.

Look at the final result of this work.

Now check out the second example. In this case, regilin will be sewn openly.

To prevent regilin from being noticeable, choose it to match the fabric. Place this tape on the lower part of the part on the face, stitch here, departing 5 mm from the cut line.

Now fold the fabric allowance over the regilline tape, iron and stitch.

If you are planning to make a flared skirt from thick fabric for your prom dress, then use the following method. First you need to overcast the bottom, then you need to put a regilin strip on the front side and stitch it here, departing 5–7 mm from the bottom.

Sew an adhesive strip to the second side of the regilin. When you fold the bottom of the product, the adhesive strip will be attached to its place, and the regilin will be practically invisible.

If you need to decorate a full skirt or dress with a beautiful flounce, then use the following method.

The bottom needs to be reinforced with a strip of regilin 10 cm wide, placing it between the lining and the top of the skirt. To do this, cut out the lining according to the skirt pattern, fold these two parts right sides together and stitch at the bottom.

Trim the seam allowances so that they are 7mm wide and apply regillin to them from the skirt side. Attach it here, leaving 1 mm from the edge.

Turn the lining part down and stitch it, leaving 1 mm from the edge.

Turn the lining part towards the wrong side of the dress and iron it. After this, you can sew the lining to the waist of the skirt.

There is also another way to make a skirt with fluffy flounces. To do this, use fishing line instead of regilin.

The fishing line should have a diameter of 2–10 mm. First you need to bend the bottom of the skirt by 5–10 mm, and then insert a fishing line into the resulting fold and stitch it in a narrow zigzag. In this case, you need to stretch the fabric under the machine foot. The more you stretch, the more significant the curl at the edge will be.

Such petticoats and flounce ideas are suitable for a prom dress at school or kindergarten. See how to make an adorable baby girl outfit.

Kindergarten graduation dress

The young princess will simply shine in such a dress. The special highlight of the dress is the skirt. She's a six-blade. See how to create a skirt pattern for a girl, which has the following measurements:
  • height 116 cm;
  • waist circumference 55 cm;
  • chest circumference 57 cm.
One wedge is 70 cm long. Its arc is 16 cm at the top and 68 cm at the bottom.

Now you need to draw out the finished pattern so that you know where you will sew the flounces and in what order.

Draw 15 lines on one wedge. You will sew vertical flounces to the red and blue lines. See how to build them.

To do this, you need to cut out these rings and cut them with scissors on one side. The width of these flounces is 10 cm, and they will then need to be sewn onto the inner sector of the circle.

Sew a six-piece skirt.

Open the flounces. For the blue sector you will get 96, for the green 48, for the red 12. Let's connect two blue shuttlecocks so that from each pair we get one. All the green shuttlecocks need to be sewn together to create a long openwork ribbon. The external sections of these blanks must be processed on an overlocker using a rolled seam. Using a regular overlock stitch, you will decorate the inner arcs of the shuttlecocks.

Stack these three piles separately. Now you need to sew the vertical shuttlecocks to the stripes on the wedges that correspond to them. After this, you need to sew the green shuttlecocks to the green line.

Sew on all the decorative details in this way. Now see how you need to construct the upper part of the bodice to make the prom dress pattern.

See what you'll need to make the top of your prom dress:
  • fabric 1 m wide 40 cm - 30–80 cm;
  • lining fabric 1m wide 40 cm - 50 cm;
  • textile paint;
  • spiral bones and regilin;
  • guipure;
  • decorative elements and small accessories: eyelets, zippers, crystals, beads, lace.
The parts need to be sealed by gluing adhesive dublerin to them on the back side. Sew the bodice details. Cut out elements from guipure to decorate it.

If your decor items are not the color you want, then paint them first. Let the paint dry. Now you need to sew decorative guipure fragments onto the bodice of the dress and decorate them with beads.

Sew the zipper into the center back seam and into the top of the skirt. The straps need to be sewn to the front of the dress. You need to baste the lining to the top of the bodice, and on the arms, sew the lining of the bodice to the zipper and to the waist line.

Sew beads to the top of the prom dress.

Sew the skirt to the bodice, after which the dress for kindergarten graduation is ready.

Before you start choosing fabric, cutting and sewing, you need to decide on the design and style of a ballgown for a girl. It all depends on your imagination, but you need to take into account the features of the girl’s figure and appearance. Blondes and brunettes will suit different shades, and blue and brown eyes will shine even brighter if you choose the right color to shade them. It is important that the girl feels comfortable. If a princess dress with frills is not to your liking, you can choose another option that is more suitable for the child’s character.

There are many options for elegant dresses for girls: a ball gown with a train, a multi-layered cut, sophisticated and elegant dresses, and maybe even tunics in the ancient Greek style. The choice is entirely yours and your child's. And if you give preference to a simple dress, it can be worn on other, less formal occasions.

Choosing fabric for a garden prom dress

The material is selected based on the intended style of the prom dress. For an airy, flying, light dress, flowing fabrics such as chiffon, silk, and polyester are suitable. If you plan to wear a dress with a full skirt, you will need tulle. For long dresses, like those of a princess from a Disney fairy tale, satin, brocade, and fabrics with lurex are suitable. In addition to fabric, do not forget to purchase decorative elements, depending on the design. These can be rhinestones, beads, ribbons, sequins, bows, etc. In addition, buy threads, elastic bands, needles and other necessary accessories.

How to sew a dress for a girl for prom: taking measurements

To sew a beautiful ball gown to fit your figure, you will need to take measurements. To measure your waist, tie a piece of tape around your waist and measure the length of the tape. In addition, you will need measurements of bodice length, skirt length, sleeves, and wrist circumference. The length of the bodice is measured from the shoulder seam to the braid tied at the waist. The length of the skirt is equal to the distance between the waist line and the desired hem line. The length of the sleeves, if they are provided in the dress, will be equal to the distance from the shoulder seam through the elbow.

Pattern of an elegant dress for girls for prom

The next stage is the pattern on paper and then on fabric. The cutting process depends on the design; you can look for a specific model in special magazines. The main thing is to approach this process carefully and with attention.

The easiest way to make a pattern for a dress is using an old knitted T-shirt. To do this, you need to put it on a sheet of paper and trace it with a pencil, first the back, then the front. To transfer a pattern to fabric, trace the paper pattern onto the material with chalk. Don't forget to add 1.5-2 cm on the seams.

Dress sewing process

If the dress has fasteners, first trim them using straight stitches by hand, lay two parallel lines along the fastener at a distance of 0.5-0.8 cm.

Then connect the shoulder sections, trim the neckline, and sew the sleeves into the bodice armholes. At the end, don't forget to remove the excess threads.

The next step is to connect the sleeve sections and the side sections of the bodice, folding them right sides inward. Then pin with a pin and sew down the sleeve and bodice sections.

The sewing of a dress for graduation in kindergarten is completed by processing the seams, sleeves, and skirt of the dress. To finish the bottom of the sleeve, overcast the bottom edges and stitch 1-1.5 cm to the wrong side. The longitudinal section of the skirt must be stitched, leaving an open, unedged seam 1 cm wide, and then machine stitched at a distance of 1.5 cm from the second section of the skirt. Fold the bottom section of the skirt to the wrong side, covering the line where the skirt is sewn to the bodice.

Decor of a dress for a girl for graduation in kindergarten

You can decorate the finished dress to your taste by adding decorative elements. If your sewing skills are not enough to create a new dress, you can buy a ready-made dress in a store, and then add personality to it with the help of jewelry.

  1. The skirt of the dress can be decorated with several small roses made of satin or other materials. The roses themselves can be decorated with beads, rhinestones, etc.
  2. Lace will help decorate the bodice of the dress.
  3. With certain skills, you can decorate a dress with embroidery and beads.
  4. You can decorate the dress with one, but bright detail. This is, for example, an unusual belt, applique, bright brooch, etc.

Styles of dresses for graduation in kindergarten

The choice of a specific dress model depends solely on your tastes and wishes of the girl. Any of the following options will be successful.

  1. Classic elegant dress with a voluminous skirt and a fitted top. The sleeve can be either long or short. Puffed sleeves look good with this dress. Such a delicate dress can be decorated with small flowers of pastel colors, and the waist can be emphasized with a belt with a large bow.
  2. A light dress made of airy chiffon will suit gentle girls. The skirt of such a dress can be made in several tiers, and the bodice can be decorated with beads or rhinestones.
  3. Dresses made of heavy materials: taffeta or satin would also look appropriate at a children's party. In this case, it is better to exclude the colors of gold and silver: in combination with such materials, they will make the dress too pretentious for a little girl. But materials with a slight metallic sheen are suitable for the youngest fashionista.
  4. The length of the skirt can be any, and the train will add chic to the dress.
  5. Complete the look with suitable accessories, beautiful and comfortable shoes, and a small handbag. The main thing is not to overdo it - the image should remain harmonious.

Transformable outfits

Children will remain children, and after special ceremonies and events they will probably want to play with friends. And doing this in a fluffy formal dress will be very uncomfortable. You can also provide for such a situation by sewing a transforming outfit with removable parts. For example, fluffy skirts of an outfit that will be worn over a simple and light dress, and then easily removed from it. Such details can be made into detachable capes, boleros, flounce sleeves, etc.

Kindergarten graduation dress. Please advise where I can buy a beautiful and not “golden” dress or suit for a girl for her kindergarten graduation?

Sewing your own prom dress guarantees a unique look. After all, no one will have a second like this. This option is especially suitable for those who already have a clear idea of what exactly they want and how they should look on this special day.

At first glance, it may seem to an inexperienced master that this is too difficult, however, it is worth trying once to be convinced of the opposite, because the correct instructions can make not only the result, but also the process exciting and enjoyable.

“A real lady” is an alluring and attractive image. Every girl at least once in her life imagined herself at a social event with a tall figure, beautiful jewelry and a floor-length dress. An evening dress with a nipped waist and an airy skirt will allow you to try on this look. Light colors and light flowing colors will bring tenderness, charm and mystery.

The dress is based on a corset, flared, gathered at the waist. The top is made in the form of a translucent blouse with a boat neck. A wide belt focuses attention on a thin waist.

What you need

We choose fabrics that are light and transparent. You will need two types. To make the cost of the dress lower, you can opt for organza and veil. If there is no goal to save money, you can use more expensive fabrics: such as chiffon, silk, tulle.

It is important to remember that choosing fabric is half the battle. Too hard a material will make the clothes “clumsy” and heavy, but smooth materials are suitable for professionals because they are more difficult to work with.

You can achieve an unusual color by using different shades of the skirt. The top layer, which is more transparent, can be chosen lighter, and for the bottom, more dense layer, take fabric with large patterns or a different color.

The basis of the bodice is a corset; lace or smooth - choose. You need to choose carefully, since the corset will become the basis of the top of the dress. It is better to match the tone of the main fabric.

Measurements

For sewing you only need two measurements:

  1. Chest height (shelf). Measured from the highest point of the intended shoulder seam at the base of the neck to the line in front.
  2. Waist circumference– the measuring tape runs horizontally along the thinnest part of the body.

Sewing a skirt

In order to sew a skirt, you need to follow these steps:

  1. We fold 3 meters of organza into four layers.
  2. In the corner, mark half the waist measurement and draw a smooth line.
  3. From the line, measure the length of the skirt (approximately 110 centimeters) and draw. Remember that an allowance of about 5 cm is required.
  4. Cut it out.
  5. Using the same principle, we cut a skirt from.
  6. We connect the blanks in the center, placing one on top of the other. It is better to place the veil on top.
  7. We sew the skirts at the waist.
  8. We collect the drapery, it will add volume due to the folds, and attach it to the corset.
  9. Align the bottom: trim the edges if necessary.
  10. Finally, we hem the hem.

Important: it is better to try on the skirt immediately after stitching the parts, so that you can correct any shortcomings if there are any.

Top of the dress

Before starting to cut the top, beginners can practice on paper. Make a drawing according to the algorithm below, connect the paper with pins and try it on. If everything fits, then the pattern can be pinned to the fabric and cut out, not forgetting the seam allowances (1-2cm).

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. The top of the dress is a rectangle of veil 120 cm wide. The length is equal to two measurements of the shelf.
  2. Along the bottom edge, mark a quarter of the waist measurement plus 3 cm and draw a side line.
  3. From the top fold we measure the width of the sleeve - 13 cm.
  4. Add a sleeve and round the corner. A three-quarter sleeve is suitable for this model, but it is not necessary.
  5. Draw a boat neck and cut everything out.
  6. We cut the back in half and make a sharp triangular cutout.
  7. Sew the side seams and trim the edges.
  8. We connect both parts of the dress.
  9. We decorate the waist with a wide one, the pattern of which is made along an oblique line.
  10. The dress is ready.

You can complement the dress with various decor in the form of embroidery with beads and mother-of-pearl beads, appliqués, various frills, ribbons and bows, etc.

Having decided on a DIY prom dress, you need to remember that it is important to properly prepare for this process. Choose a fabric that matches the model, carefully study the instructions, evaluate your capabilities, even practice on a trial dress to see how it turns out and whether the style is suitable. One way or another, this creative process can captivate, and the experience will be useful and interesting.

Graduation is coming soon. Oh, how the graduates want to be the best, the most beautiful, the most original, the most noticeable! And parents of graduates have a headache: how can they not go broke on their daughters’ desires? I suggest making a simple and original prom dress yourself.

The emphasis in this dress is on COLOR! It is the combination of three classic colors: white, black and red that makes it so unique. And also flirty peas. When I saw this fabric, I simply could not move away from it.

For such a dress, you need fabric for the skirt, equal to two lengths of the finished skirt. For the petticoat: two lengths of black tulle, for the bodice: 40 cm of white satin, for the belt and flowers: 50 cm of red satin. Threads of three colors and adhesive interlining for a 40 cm belt. The cost of all the fabric cost no more than $20

Let's start with the underskirt and overskirt.

To avoid unnecessary thickness of the underskirt at the waist, I decided to make it fit at the waist and gather it at the bottom with a fluffy frill. You need to sew tulle very carefully. I made four darts along the waistline: two in the front, two in the back.

She placed the belt of the underskirt on a thin strip of alas and made simple ties on the side. I processed the cut along the side seam line.

Here is the finished skirt.

Now it's time for the overskirt. I cut the fabric of the overskirt into two strips and sewed them on the sides. I laid two parallel lines on the machine along the top edge (this is to make neat gathers by pulling the two bottom threads at the same time). Like this:

I folded the bottom of the skirt twice and stitched it.

We make the bodice of the dress like this: you need to cut the parts for the front and back, measuring down the height of the finished bodice plus seam allowances.

The front needs to be folded. To do this, measure out pieces of fabric equal to three centimeters. Let's add folds. The first fold in the center is counter, the subsequent ones fall on it.

It turns out like this:

The top of the bodice was treated with a facing, cutting it to the shape of the bodice and gluing it onto adhesive interlining for rigidity.

I sewed on the facing and, turning it to the wrong side, sewed the seam. Thin straps were inserted between the seams connecting the facing and the bodice. I inserted a hidden zipper into the middle seam of the bodice.

The bodice and overskirt need to be connected. Sew elastic onto this seam from the inside out.

Proyas. Two strips 10 centimeters wide plus seam allowances must be glued with adhesive interlining and stitched around the perimeter, leaving part of the seam unstitched.

Through this hole, turn the belt right side out and stitch along the edge with a finishing stitch. I added thin stripes of trim along the waistband; I thought it looked prettier.
