From September 23 to 27, the VII Moscow International Festival “Circle of Light” will take place in Moscow. Impressive light and sound performances will be presented free of charge at seven venues.

Architectural video mapping - the projection of three-dimensional images onto city buildings and structures - can be seen on the Ostankino Tower, which celebrates its half-century anniversary this year. In addition to the Ostankino TV Tower, the Circle of Light festival program will include four more open areas: Theater Square, Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve, Patriarch's Ponds and Stroginskaya Floodplain.

Ostankino tower

One of the main venues of the Moscow International Festival “Circle of Light” will be the Ostankino Tower. On September 23, from 20:00 to 21:15, the opening ceremony of the festival will take place here.

An amazing musical and multimedia show using video projection, choreography of fountains, synergy of light, lasers and fire will unfold on the Ostankino Tower and the surface of the Ostankino Pond.

With the help of modern water and pyrotechnic technologies, as well as the magic of light and music, viewers will be transported to the fabulous Lavender Fields, to the foot of Niagara Falls, to the heart of Yellow Stone Park and Bamboo Flute Cave, to experience the heat of the Sahara Desert or the refreshing breeze of the Great Barrier Reef, witness the mesmerizing power of the Fuji volcano, the immense depth of Lake Baikal, the endless beauty of the Ural Mountains and the captivating charm of Sakhalin Island.


The opening ceremony will end with a 15-minute grandiose pyrotechnic show involving the Ostankino Tower.

As part of the festival, the Ostankino TV tower, 540 meters high, will alternately turn into the Eiffel Tower (300 meters), the Dubai skyscraper Burj Khalifa (828 meters) and the New York Empire State Building (443 meters), as well as the Toronto TV tower (553 meters ), Shanghai (486 meters), Tokyo (332 meters) and Sydney (309 meters).

This year, Theater Square united two buildings at once - the Bolshoi and Maly Theaters. A unique light show was developed especially for this, where the interaction of two facades will become part of one love story.

In addition, the site will host a screening of works from the beloved ARTVISION competition. Participants from all over the world will demonstrate new works of light art to the audience at the Bolshoi Theater in the Classic category and at the Maly Theater in the Modern category.

On the facades of the Bolshoi and Maly theaters from September 23 to 27, from 19:30 to 23:00, a light show based on several works performed on their stages will be shown. Viewers will see fragments of plays by classics of Russian literature - Alexander Ostrovsky, Nikolai Gogol, Anton Chekhov and others.


Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve

From September 23 to 27, Tsaritsyno Park will appear for visitors in a new fabulous light. Spectators can expect an audiovisual show at the Grand Catherine Palace, a live performance by Turetsky's Soprano art group to the accompaniment of light and music, a mesmerizing show of fountains on Tsaritsynsky Pond and amazing light installations.

In Tsaritsyno, on all festival days you can admire the show of dancing fountains. Water jets will be illuminated using special installations. The musical background of the performance will be works from the repertoire of Mikhail Glinka, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Sergei Prokofiev and other Russian composers.

Also on September 24, the art group Soprano will perform for guests of Tsaritsyno Park. Participants in the unique project of Mikhail Turetsky will accompany with their vocals spectacular video projections on the building of one of the palaces. And from September 25 to 27, Soprano will be performed in recording.

Additional colorful touches will be given to Tsaritsyno Park by the best light installations by famous designers from around the world.


Patriarch's Ponds

At the Patriarch's Ponds on September 25 from 20:30 to 21:30 Dmitry Malikov will perform his own works on the piano. Romantic music and elegant video images on the facade of the yellow pavilion on the pond will create a harmonious light and music composition.

Strogino

On September 27, in the waters of the Stroginsky backwater, at the end of the Moscow International Festival “Circle of Light”, for the first time in Russia, spectators will be treated to a large-scale 30-minute pyrotechnic show from Japanese manufacturers.

Spectators can expect a bright and unforgettable 30-minute Japanese pyrotechnic show, which has no analogues in Russia. Hundreds of pyrotechnic charges will be launched from four barges installed in the waters of the Stroginsky backwater, the largest of which, 600 mm caliber, has never been presented in Russia before.

Japanese fireworks are unique in their properties and have no analogues in the world. They surpass other fireworks in their color and brightness, and the manual production process, passed down from time immemorial, makes each projectile a true work of art.


Digital October

From year to year, the Digital October platform remains a constant meeting place for famous professionals in the field of visual art and aspiring light artists.

An educational program consisting of lectures, seminars and practical classes helps beginners master the basics and reveals many secrets and subtleties in working with light.

On September 23 and 24, the center will host educational lectures by lighting designers and creators of laser installations. Admission is free subject to pre-registration on the festival website.

Concert Hall "MIR"

On September 24, the “Art Vision VJ” competition will take place at the “Mir” theater and concert hall on Tsvetnoy Boulevard. Teams from different countries will compete in the skill of creating light images to music.

Spectators will witness a competitive competition of the best light and music artists in the direction of VJing. Participants will demonstrate 10-minute VJ sets, where in real time they will create completely new works using unexpected visual images and video fragments to the music being performed.

On September 21, the opening of the festival will be the multimedia show “Carnival of Light,” which will combine the amazing capabilities of light and laser projections, choreography of fountains and fire, and grandiose pyrotechnic effects. This time, a structure of 12-meter cubes will be erected along the spit of the Rowing Canal for video projections, over 250 straight and 35 rotating fountains will be placed on the water, and more than 170 fire burners of various modifications will be installed on the pontoons. On September 22 and 23, the Moscow public will be able to see reruns of the Carnival of Light.

On September 25, the closing of the festival will be dedicated to the cross year of Japan and Russia. Spectators of the final performance will be surprised by a 40-minute show of Japanese pyrotechnics, known throughout the world for its unique beauty and scale. It will involve large-caliber charges, and the opening diameter of the largest of them will reach almost 1 kilometer in the sky.

Thanks to augmented reality technology, they can be easily counted using the cameras of mobile devices, on the screen of which animals will appear - possible inhabitants of the ecosystems of the future.

On September 24, a concert by People's Artist of Russia Dmitry Malikov will take place on the stage in front of the Grand Tsaritsyn Palace. The maestro's performance will be accompanied by video projections on the facade of the palace.

This year, the festival site in Tsaritsyno will become part of the program of the international Art Vision competition. The finalists of the competition in the “Modern” category will present their works on the façade of the palace.

For the first time in the history of the Circle of Light, the festival site will be the Victory Museum on Poklonnaya Hill. On the facade of the building, light novels will be shown dedicated to Russia’s military past, the city of Moscow, as well as fifteen-minute VJing to music and songs of the war years.

One of the video mapping works, “Designers of Victory,” is dedicated to the designers who glorified Russia. Their inventions became an achievement of world technical thought, and their participation in solving problems of creating defense equipment brought the victory of the Russian people closer in the Great Patriotic War. The light show consists of three parts dedicated to the navy, air force, armored vehicles and automobiles.

The second light show about Moscow - the heart of Russia. It will tell you how the lands and territories around the capital grew and united over the centuries. Viewers will take a journey over our vast homeland, see the nature of the Urals, Siberia and the Far East, admire the breadth of our rivers and the landscapes of Crimea.

The program is focused on the current achievements of representatives of the Russian scene, as well as on global trends in the field of multimedia technologies and lighting design.

The goal of the program is to create educational and experimental platforms for young professionals, students and creative industry workers. The program includes workshops, panel discussions and public presentations. Pre-registration is required.


Concert Hall "Mir"

On September 22, the Mir concert hall will host a live performance by participants of the Art Vision competition in the VJing category.

About the Festival

The festival was first held in Moscow in 2011, although the idea of ​​holding it first appeared back in 2002, and it belonged to Anton Chukaev, who proposed holding a festival of light by analogy with the French Leon.

Over the years of the festival's existence, about 7.5 million people have become its guests. Dozens of artists and lighting designers, as well as professional 2D and 3D graphics artists, presented their work there.
