How to paint glasses for a wedding? Hand-painting glasses for a wedding along the contour, with patterns, using stencils - how to make exclusive accessories for the newlyweds with your own hands.

An essential attribute of any wedding is a pair of wedding champagne flutes. Usually such glasses are very beautiful, richly decorated and are not cheap. But you can easily make wedding glasses yourself using. The Land of Soviets will tell how to paint glasses with your own hands.

Of course, painted glasses can be given not only for a wedding. They will be a great gift for New Year, Valentine's Day, March 8th or Birthday. You can paint not only wine glasses and champagne flutes, but also beer glasses and thin glasses for soft drinks.

So, if you decide to try glass painting, you will need these materials and tools:

  • the glasses themselves;
  • paper;
  • pencil or felt-tip pen;
  • scissors;
  • scotch;
  • special contour (in a tube or in the form of a marker);
  • glass paints;
  • brushes or palette knife (depending on the type of paint);
  • cotton pads;
  • cotton buds;
  • toothpick;
  • degreaser.

Additionally, you may need a carbon copy or printer, transparent acrylic varnish for glass.

First, a few words about the types of glass paints. Glass painting can be done with opaque (covering) or transparent (stained glass) paints. Opaque paints Typically made from acrylic, they are waterproof and durable.

Stained glass paints There are fired and unfired. Product coated burnt paints, after applying the paint, bake in the oven. Unfired paints do not need to be fixed by firing. Unfired paints alcohol-based, water-resistant and durable. Water-based paints are afraid of water, so you should not paint glasses with such paints. Beginners are usually advised to start with alcohol-based stained glass paints.

Before you start painting glasses, you need degrease the surface so that the paint adheres better. Alcohol, acetone, and glass cleaner are suitable for degreasing. After degreasing the glass, try not to touch it with your hands again.

Then you should do sketch of your drawing. You can draw it on a piece of paper yourself, and if your artistic abilities leave much to be desired, you can transfer the drawing using a carbon copy or find it on the Internet and print it out. When the sketch is ready, cut it out, put it inside the glass and secure it with tape.

Then you need to trace the drawing on the glass ( outline). There are different contours: universal and designed specifically for glass, in the form of tubes and markers. They can be black, transparent, gold or silver. The contour must be drawn in a continuous line without interrupting it.

After applying the outline, you can remove the paper from the glass and let the outline dry. This usually takes from 30 minutes to three hours (the exact time can be found on the paint packaging). Then the painting of the glasses continues filling the contour. Depending on the type of paint, they are either applied with a brush or squeezed out of a tube, and thick, burnt paints are applied using a small palette knife. If the paint is liquid, the surface of the glass must be positioned strictly horizontally so that the paint does not spread.

Mistakes when applying paint or contour are removed with a cotton swab dipped in solvent, and air bubbles with a toothpick. After applying the paint, the glass must dry, this will take from 6 hours to a day, depending on the type of paint.

Then the paint needs to be fixed. For non-fired paints it is usually used clear acrylic varnish for glass. A glass painted with burnt paints, baked in the oven(make sure the glass is made of heat-resistant glass that can withstand high temperatures). Place the glass in a cold oven, heat it to 150-180°C and bake the glass for 10 minutes. Then you need to let the glass cool and only then remove it from the oven.

The painting of glasses can be supplemented decorative elements: sparkles, small beads, rhinestones, colored sand. All this beauty is glued to the glass using transparent glue. As a final touch, you can tie a bow of thin ribbon on the stem of the glass.

A wedding is an important event in the life of every person. Therefore, the newlyweds want to remember this day for the rest of their lives. Moreover, many people want to see a lot of original and unique details at the celebration. This could be the bride's designer dress or such a small element as wedding glasses. Hand-painted wedding glasses will be another non-standard solution and will help make the holiday brighter.

Where to start creating?

First of all, you need to think about the image of the future glass. It simply must fit harmoniously into the overall theme of the wedding celebration. After this you need to draw a sketch. It is not necessary to think through everything down to the smallest detail, because a lot can change during the creative process, and inaccurate sketches leave room for flight of imagination. There are a lot of ideas for creativity on the Internet. You can find examples of work on any wedding theme. But you shouldn’t try to copy someone’s finished work, it will still turn out differently, because each artist brings something of his own to the image of the craft.

Types of glass decor

There are several basic ways to decorate wedding dishes with your own hands:

  • Decoupage.
  • Application.
  • Glass painting.
  • Painting using stencils.

Decoupage

For this type of creativity it is customary to use rhinestones, lace or beads. Pearls add sophistication to the glasses, rhinestones create reflections and the glasses sparkle with every hit of light. To create such beauty, you simply need to distribute all the decorative elements over the surface and secure them in any available way. The main thing is to do everything efficiently so that in the midst of the celebration there is no embarrassment.

Application

To decorate glasses using this technique, you will have to stock up on a lot of decorative little things. Anything can be used: satin ribbons of different thicknesses, rhinestones, lace, small flowers and ready-made boutonnieres. These cute objects create works of art.

Most often they decorate the bottom of the glass. A beautiful flower to match the bride's dress will be a very good solution. To secure the elements, use moment-glue, silicone glue or invisible double-sided tape. If you do everything carefully, you can get a very strong and invisible fastening of decorative elements.

Painting glasses using stencils

This option does not require any special equipment. Everything you might need is available in almost every home. To begin with, masking tape is glued to the glass, from which the required design has been cut out in advance. It turns out to be a stencil. The inside is generously coated with glue and glitter is attached to it. After the glue has completely dried, carefully remove the masking tape. Only a shiny pattern will remain on the glass. You can show your imagination or decorate the wine glasses with cute hearts. Any of the solutions will look good with due diligence.

Glass painting

This decor is made with acrylic paints on glass. You can even use regular nail polish, but such a design will not be durable. Of course, he will survive the wedding, but he won’t be able to show the glasses to his grandchildren.

To ensure that spot painting on glass does not cause difficulties, it is better to prepare all the tools in advance:

  • Paints or varnish.
  • Degreaser. This could be nail polish remover or alcohol.
  • Cotton swabs or thin brushes for painting. It is most convenient to draw large dots using an eraser at the end of a pencil, and for small ones a brush is ideal.
  • Cotton pads for pattern correction.
  • If the paint has time to dry, you may need a solvent for adjustments.

The process of decorating glasses

  1. To begin with, you should decide on the color scheme and select shades of paint. After this you can start drawing.
  2. It is best to start by degreasing the surface using cotton pads and the selected product.
  3. Now you can apply the dots. You can either increase the distance between them, or decrease the size from bottom to top. It is most convenient to draw when the glass is upside down. It is recommended to finish the drawing two centimeters from the edge, this is due to the toxicity of some types of paints.
  4. The last step is drying. Paint manufacturers indicate drying methods on the tubes, so at this stage it is best to use this information.

In order for the result to exceed all expectations and definitely not disappoint anyone, it makes sense to practice applying a pattern of dots and only after confident strokes on paper can you start drawing on glass.

The master class was conducted by Marina Yarosh.

New Year is a long-awaited and favorite holiday for many. And you always want to make it especially bright and unforgettable. These elegant glasses will perfectly complement the New Year's decor, emphasize the beauty and generosity of the festive table and will always be a reminder of a warm and magical night.

Materials:
glass goblets;
pattern printouts;
ribbons for decoration;
contours on glass and ceramics (blue, white mother-of-pearl);
degreasing agent (acetone, alcohol-containing liquid, nail polish remover).

Progress.
We prepare printouts of the required size with the pattern that we will apply. Since I have thin, elegant glasses, the design was chosen according to the stylized figure of a Christmas tree. We place the cut out pattern in the place where the pattern will be. You can glue it with tape and secure it with a clothespin on top, but I prefer the option of simply filling the glass with fabric. Convenient and practical.

1

We degrease the glass and begin to apply a blue outline according to the drawing. Where the lines are thicker, we make the dots larger, and vice versa. The main thing is that the lines do not merge, otherwise the work will look untidy.

2

Fill the entire shape of the Christmas tree with dots. In my drawing, in addition to twigs, there are balls. I denote them with a white outline.

3

Now we paint the base of the leg. To do this, take the same printout, only smaller in size. Degrease the surface. We do not fix the drawing, but simply place the glass itself on it and begin to paint the twig in the same way, using part of the pattern.

4

The main part of the work is ready! To add more grace, we also decorate the base of the glass. You don't need a drawing for this. We degrease and draw a simple long line of a snake with a white outline. There are small dots at the ends of the snake, larger ones in the center. We make such snakes very close to each other, filling the entire space.

5

When the space for the whole snake runs out, continue the drawing similarly along the contour. Gradually the pattern changes, and our snakes turn into a thin and elegant mesh that makes the bottom of the glass interesting. Let the outline dry thoroughly.

6

You can additionally add decor: beads, flowers, pendants, snowflakes, etc. I decided to limit myself to modest ribbon bows to match the pattern. Let your holiday be unforgettable!

Ordinary dishes sometimes become too dull. The best way to correct this sullenness is to add some color. Sometimes it’s not very clear how you can decorate ordinary glass, and especially dishes. Of course, dishes are a separate and difficult topic. After all, it is the food we eat that touches it. For example, let's take wine glasses. No food elements interact with the outside, which means that this is what you can do.
Before starting work, you need to decide what kind of pattern will be applied to the glass. In this master class, lilies are used as a design. Having printed the selected drawing of the required size in advance, you need to prepare all the materials for work. For work you will need: a glass (on which the painting will be done), a degreaser (nail polish remover with acetone is allowed), cotton pads (or some other rag that does not leave fibers), a prepared drawing, tape (transparent or paper), scissors, stained glass contour and paints (in this master class, water-based).

Once everything is prepared, you can start working. The workplace should be comfortable and clean. It is better to have some materials (rags or paper) on hand in order to wipe the leaked tube and remove excess from the dispenser. You can also stock up on either cotton swabs or toothpicks so that you can immediately correct any mistakes. Or better yet, both.
The next step will be to secure the design on the glass, or, more precisely, in the glass. The image should be fixed from the inside, which is quite logical. You can secure it with tape. Carefully cut into small pieces on top and bottom. You should be careful and secure it so that the tape does not get into the area of the image itself (in places where paint or contour will be applied).

Once the drawing is securely fastened and there is complete confidence that it will not fall off and will not move or crawl, you can proceed to the next stage. This stage is surface preparation. Sometimes new glasses have labels, and simply all surfaces, by definition, have a layer of fat. In connection with these facts, it is necessary to clean and degrease the surface to be treated. Alcohol, acetone, and gasoline galoshes can be used as a degreaser. Unfortunately, these products are very odorous and are not always available. In this case, nail polish remover with acetone can serve as a degreaser. Every decent girl has one. The surface where the design is supposed to be is wiped with a cotton pad or a piece of cloth soaked in a degreaser. After treating the surface, the glass must be conveniently placed in a horizontal position. It is in the horizontal position that the paints spread the least, which prevents uneven color filling. It is recommended to use a pillow as a backing; it protects the glass from hard surfaces and minimizes the likelihood of breaking or scratching the glass. You can also tie the glass to the pillow so that it cannot fall from it, but this is up to desire and preference.

The next step will be to draw the outline. Due to the fact that the glass has a spherical shape, the image is distorted. Therefore, for a more accurate, correct and beautiful drawing, it is necessary to apply the paint-contour while looking at the image strictly perpendicularly, you can also close one eye for greater accuracy. Otherwise, the proportions of the drawing will be disrupted and beauty will not be achieved. Contour paint is most often produced in tubes with a narrow spout. This spout is a “tassel”. Carefully, evenly squeezing out the paste-like mass, it is necessary to apply paint on the surface of the glass along the contour of the pattern. It is always necessary to ensure that the contour does not have voids or is interrupted. If the contour is uneven and heterogeneous, color paints may flow beyond its boundaries. This can greatly ruin the drawing.
If the selected drawing consists of two parts, as in this master class, then the application of paint will take place in two stages. One stage per plane. Having drawn the outline of the first plane, leave the glass to dry at room temperature. Drying time depends on the type and manufacturer of contour paint. This time must be indicated on its packaging. On average it takes about two hours.

A glass with a contour applied on the first plane.

After the outline on the first plane has dried, the glass is carefully turned over so that the second plane is perpendicular to the view. Next, using a similar method, the contour is applied to the second plane. If there are more than two planes, then similar actions are performed with each of them in the same sequence.

A glass with a contour applied on the second plane.

After all the contours have thoroughly dried, you can proceed to the next stage: filling with color. First, you need to place the glass again with the first plane up, perpendicular to your view. When opening a bottle of paint, be prepared that the paint itself may immediately flow out, even if the spout is located up. Don't be scared, it's best to remove the excess and carefully start filling. When filling the drawing with color, you need to pay special attention to the presence of air bubbles. They usually occur with the first drops or if the tube spout is often torn off the surface. You should also not forget that all the necessary areas must be filled in completely, in every corner, at every contour. Otherwise it will be of poor quality and ugly. After all the necessary areas on the first plane are filled, the paint must be dried. Drying occurs at room temperature. The time depends on the type and manufacturer of paint, but on average this time is 24 hours. Detailed information is indicated on the packaging or tubes.
After the first surface has dried in a similar way, the second plane is filled. Other planes, if available, are filled in the same sequence. When all the surfaces are filled, it is advisable to leave the glasses to dry for some more time. You can make sure that the paint is dry by gently moving your finger across the paint. The main thing is not to be fanatical, otherwise unsightly fingerprint marks may remain.

A glass with a pattern filled with color.

After the paint has completely dried, you must carefully examine the resulting drawing. As a rule, there are always small flaws (a little extra contour, the color has crept out of the boundaries). The next step will be to correct these same flaws. To do this, you will need a product (in our case, nail polish remover), cotton swabs or cotton pads in tandem with a toothpick. After applying the liquid to the cotton part - in the case of a disk, also placing a toothpick - carefully and accurately remove the excess. It is necessary to avoid contact with the main drawing, because there is a risk of ruining it. Having removed all the excess, we get a finished glass.

It will take about two to three days to paint one glass. Drying time is key. These glasses will be an unusual decoration for any home. They can also become the most unforgettable gift!

Ordinary glass glasses are very boring even for those who prefer minimalism down to the last detail. To make wine glasses more beautiful and attractive, you can paint them. The technique of painting on glass can be either simple or complex - it all depends on what result you want to get in the end.

There are methods that, in fact, even a small child with perseverance and accuracy can handle.

In a word, if you want to somehow diversify the appearance of your dishes, try decorating them yourself!

For this you will need cotton swabs, brushes and paints - for example, acrylic. In some cases, you can even use regular nail polish.

Painting glasses with your own hands is an interesting and exciting activity, which, moreover, has certain benefits. For example, if you are doing this for your own wedding, you can save a lot on designer fees. In addition, you will probably remain proud of yourself due to the fact that the main decor on the newlyweds’ table will be made with your own hands.

You can paint wine glasses with acrylic or stained glass paints.

In the drawing technique, use your imagination - give it free rein and follow your imagination. But do not forget about accuracy.

So, how to make the painting of glasses original?

Point technique

The easiest way to paint wine glasses is the dot technique. Even a person who is far from needlework and decor can handle it. Perseverance and caution in your actions are the only conditions here for obtaining a good result. The result of dot painting of glasses for a wedding is “elegant”, beautiful and elegant wine glasses.

The bubbles that we will draw can look like multi-colored confetti or like champagne bubbles. The easiest way to paint is in one color, and for this it is better to choose metallic shades - silver, gold or bronze. The last two colors of paint for painting will make your dishes especially luxurious.

The level of complexity of dot painting of glasses is low - even an amateur in artistic and design practice can cope with it. In this case, a stencil for painting glasses is not required - all work is done entirely by hand, without any special preliminary preparation.

In order to decorate wine glasses using the confetti technique, you will need:

  1. Acrylic paint, preferably metallic shades (contour paints or even simple nail polish are also suitable, but still, acrylic from the above is considered the most stable);
  2. Cotton swabs (a regular lead pencil with an eraser on the back end, or a thin brush with stiff bristles will also work);
  3. Liquid for degreasing the surface (ethyl alcohol, acetone-containing nail polish remover, solvent).

Before you get started, you will need some glasses. To do this, you need to carefully treat them with the solutions listed in the third paragraph (more precisely, with one of them, to choose from). Generously soak a cotton pad in the chosen solution or liquid and carefully use it on the dishes, paying special attention to the places where the design will be applied.

When finished, make sure that no lint from the cotton wool or cotton pad remains on the treated areas. This manipulation is mandatory for all types and techniques of painting, as well as for any paint that is used. If you apply pigment to a greasy surface, you are unlikely to be able to enjoy the result for a long time, since the paint will soon peel off and come off.

Instructions for applying a dot pattern:

  • After you have washed the glass and degreased its surface, squeeze a little paint into a flat dish (if you feel sorry for the dishes, use a regular paper file);
  • Place the glass upside down;
  • Dip the tip of a cotton swab or brush into varnish or paint;
  • Start applying dots from top to bottom, that is, from the bottom of the glass to its neck;
  • In the process of applying circles, make sure that there is enough paint on the cotton swab or brush, and that the design does not have bald spots or streaks;
  • If you use the famous "point to point" technique, you can form various floral or geometric patterns, or improvised chaotic patterns, from small dots;
  • If you want to limit yourself to only a uniform dotted pattern, place wider and larger dots at the base, and thinner and smaller ones downwards.

Large dots are best made with a pencil eraser, and small ones with the tip of a cotton swab (you can use one with a pointed end).

If your paint is toxic (or you are not sure that it is not toxic), try to retreat at least two centimeters from the neck when painting glasses with acrylic paint. And preferably even more to avoid negative consequences. Stained glass painting, which usually covers the entire wine glass, is done purely for the purpose of decoration - such glasses are not used for their intended purpose, they are intended to serve only as decoration. Be sure to leave the neck clean if you intend to drink from this container.

If you draw with contour paints that come in tubes with applicators, we strongly recommend that you practice on a sheet of paper first. You should place the same points, approximately at the same distance from each other, with the same pressure.

Once the decorating process is complete, you need to let the glass dry. To do this, you need to read the firing instructions, if any, inside the pigment package. Typically, markers and contour paints dry on their own within a day and do not require firing.

If the glasses were painted with stained glass paints or acrylic, you probably need to fix the ornament in a warm place. To do this, you need to put the glasses in an oven preheated to 150 or 170 degrees and leave there for about half an hour. After this, the oven should be turned off, but do not remove the glasses from it, but allow them to dry naturally inside. This manipulation is necessary to ensure that the glasses retain their pattern for a long time. Baking is especially important for those who use a dishwasher and plan to use the dishes constantly.

The nail polish dries very quickly but is not long lasting. Therefore, it is not advisable to use it for a gift set. But for painting on the eve of theme parties, as they say, “just in time,” you simply cannot find a better dye.

Drawings on wine glasses

If the dot technique doesn't suit you, and you feel more artistic potential, you can work on real full-fledged drawings on dishes. For this you will need multi-colored acrylic paints and brushes of different sizes. In this case, stencils will come in handy.

It is best to draw the likeness of a flower on the wine glasses, because they themselves resemble flowers in their shape. You can imitate a stem on the stem, and a blossoming bud on the glass itself. This technique will help you make truly luxurious, sophisticated tableware.

To perform this kind of decor, you need to follow simple instructions:

  • Degrease the surface of the glass (first wash it with detergent, let it dry, and then wipe with the selected solution);
  • Stir the paints on the palette until you obtain the desired shades. To achieve pastel colors, we recommend that you mix the accent pigment with white;
  • Paint the petals with a wide brush. Taking a color a little darker and a brush a little thinner, you can paint peculiar veins on them;
  • Next you need to draw the stamens. To do this you will need a dark shade of paint and the same cotton swabs. The stamens are drawn right at the base of the glass, where the bottom turns into the stem;
  • If desired, you can additionally decorate the resulting flower with glitter or stained glass paints to give it even more charm, luxury, and of course, originality.
  • The glasses are fired in the same way as in the first case. If you follow the technology correctly, you should end up with a very beautiful and bright decor.

Such wine glasses can be used not only at weddings or theme parties, but also for any occasion, up to a standard reception. You don't have to think about original serving, because "program maximum" has already been completed, and you have hand-made crafts in your arsenal.
