To bake beautiful, delicious, golden brown waffles, first you need a waffle iron. Nowadays, store shelves are replete with a large variety of waffle irons: large and small, expensive and budget options.

If desired, everyone will find the optimal solution for themselves.


If you can’t buy a new waffle iron, but you still have an old Soviet one, don’t be sad - it’s no worse than new and imported ones, and sometimes even better. And the recipe for waffle dough in a waffle iron is universal.

To speed up the waffle baking process, I used both a new and an old waffle iron. Despite the fact that the temperature control in the old one was a bit flawed, both waffle irons pleased us with excellent golden waffles.

Dough recipe for waffle rolls

According to my recipe for dough for waffle rolls, we will need the following products:

1) Eggs – 4 pcs.;

2) Margarine – 1 pack (250 grams);

3) Sugar – 1 glass;

4) Flour – 1 cup;

5) Salt – a pinch.

How to make waffle batter

Now let's learn more about how to make waffle dough.

According to the recipe for the dough for waffle rolls, we take all products at the same room temperature.

To do this, it is advisable to first remove the eggs from the refrigerator.

Before making waffle dough, the flour also needs to be warmed to room temperature and sifted in advance. Be sure to sift the flour before kneading any dough. This will avoid lumps and make the dough more tender by saturating it with oxygen.

Soften the margarine, or better yet, melt it without bringing it to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Beat the eggs and sugar thoroughly with a whisk or mixer until the sugar dissolves. Add softened margarine, add a pinch of salt.

Stir until smooth.

Add flour and stir the dough until smooth.

As you can see, this is a really simple dough recipe for waffle rolls.

The consistency of the waffle dough is like thick sour cream.

How to bake waffles

Now let's figure out how to bake waffles. To get beautiful and crispy waffles, you must heat the waffle iron well, otherwise the waffle batter will dry out and not fry.

If the waffle iron coating is non-stick, then there is no need to additionally lubricate it, because the dough is quite fatty.

As you remember, I have one of the waffle irons - an older model, so before baking the waffles, I greased it with vegetable oil. You don’t need to pour a lot of oil - this is not a frying pan, just coat it lightly with a silicone brush.

Depending on the amount of batter poured in, you can control the size of your waffles. Be sure to take into account that the waffle will increase during baking.

I was baking small waffles, so I used a teaspoon to pour the batter.

When raw waffle batter hits a hot frying surface, it begins to sizzle and fry. After you have closed the waffle iron, listen to how the future tube hisses; when the hissing subsides, it begins to brown.

After the dough stops making noise, wait 3-5 seconds and take out the waffle. It is better to do this with a wooden spatula; it will not damage the non-stick coating.

The finished waffles according to this recipe are very tasty even on their own, without any filling. You can easily leave them as is.

Or you can roll them into tubes and add condensed milk, as in my recipe.

How to make a waffle roll

In order to form beautiful, even tubes, you need to act very quickly.

How to make a waffle roll? The hot waffle is soft and elastic, but after just a few seconds it begins to harden and becomes brittle.

After removing the finished waffle circle from the waffle iron, quickly roll it into a tube or cone, as you wish. To make a waffle roll, you can use a special stick or a thin rolling pin.

I prefer to just wrap it with my hands, even though it is hot. After rolling up the waffle tube, hold it in this position for a few seconds until it hardens.

Filling for waffle rolls

The filling for waffle rolls can be different: jams, preserves, butter cream. But the tastiest thing, in my opinion, are waffle rolls filled with condensed milk.

To make waffle rolls with condensed milk, you will need:

— Caramelized condensed milk (boiled) – 1 can (370 g);

— Butter – 200 gr.

Naturally, when choosing condensed milk for your children, you should not skimp on quality and take unknown mixtures. Now there are too many substitutes on store shelves that inherently have nothing to do with milk.

But natural condensed milk is a very valuable product; it should not contain anything other than milk and sugar.

And the consistency of condensed milk is achieved through temperature and pressure, not thickeners.

How to cook condensed milk in a jar

You can buy condensed milk for filling waffles already caramelized, or you can cook condensed milk in a can yourself.

Just a warning, take this seriously. It is advisable to pre-cook the condensed milk, because this process takes quite a long time. So, how to cook condensed milk in a jar?

To do this, without opening the can of condensed milk, place it in a saucepan. Fill with cold water to completely cover the container with condensed milk.

Bring to a boil, cook the condensed milk over low heat minimum 1.5 hours.

It is very important to ensure that the water in the pan does not boil over., otherwise the consequences can be very dire. And instead of straws, condensed milk from an exploded can will end up on walls, furniture and in other most unexpected places.

By the way, You also need to add hot water to avoid temperature changes.

After you have boiled condensed milk in a can, keep in mind that caramelized condensed milk needs time to cool due to the thickness of the product and the tightness of the container.

When making the filling for wafer rolls with condensed milk, remember that it is not advisable to mix hot condensed milk with butter, as the water may bounce off. As a result, the filling will not have the required consistency, and the cream will flow out of the tubes.

Remove the butter for filling the waffle rolls from the refrigerator in advance. When the butter softens and the condensed milk (if you boiled it yourself) cools, mix them until smooth.


The delicious condensed milk filling for waffle rolls is ready. Fill the waffles with it using a pastry syringe or bag.

When the cream has cooled a little, the wafer rolls with condensed milk are ready to eat.

But they don’t have to cool down for long in our family, they are so tasty and sweet.
