Biography

Eduard Nikolaevich Uspensky was born on December 22, 1937 in the city of Yegoryevsk, in the Moscow region.

Family

His father, Nikolai Mikhailovich Uspensky, worked as a dog handler in the hunting department of the CPSU Central Committee, his mother, Natalya Alekseevna Uspenskaya, was a mechanical engineer by training. Eduard had 2 brothers, the older brother Igor and the younger brother Yuri.

By nationality, the elder Uspensky was Jewish, and Natalya Alekseevna was Russian. Thanks to my father's profession, the family always had many animals.

The Uspensky family idyll did not last long; Nikolai Mikhailovich died when Eduard was only 10 years old. The family, who at that time lived on Kutuzovsky Prospekt in Moscow, faced great financial difficulties.

Education

Despite poverty, Eduard Uspensky always dreamed of becoming big man, minister or at least academician. At the same time, he studied poorly, was very mischievous, and cut off the bad grades in his diary with a blade.

But everything changed when the boy broke his leg and was hospitalized. Then he started reading books, catching up on his knowledge, and graduated from school with diplomas.

Uspensky fell in love with mathematics very much, and chose a technical university for admission - the Moscow Aviation Institute. Having become an engineer, I worked in my specialty, although not for very long. Uspensky was drawn to creativity.

Creation

Also in school years While working as a counselor, Uspensky composed poems and songs for his little charges. During his institute years, the future writer participated in skits and played in KVN. Then he began to earn a living by writing scripts for cartoons.

Uspensky was also good at humorous works, but the writer did not want to develop in this direction.

  • "Three from Prostokvashino",
  • "Holidays in Prostokvashino"
  • "Winter in Prostokvashino."

Uspensky had a hand in creating such programs for children as “Good night, kids!”, “ABVGDeyka”, “Baby Monitor”.

Uspensky was the chairman of the jury of the Cherished Dream Prize. Helped in refereeing KVN games in 1986.

In 1997, Uspensky was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland.

In 2000, he received the TEFI Award for his contribution to the creation of the original song program “Ships Came into Our Harbor.”

In 2007-2008, he was a member of the Supreme Council of the political party “Civil Power”.

In 2010, Uspensky was awarded the Korney Chukovsky Prize, established for children's writers, in the main category “For outstanding creative achievements in domestic children's literature.”

Personal life

Eduard Uspensky's family always stood on important place, it was here that he drew inspiration for his works, and some family members served as prototypes for his heroes. So he copied the old woman Shapoklyak from his first wife, Rimma, who, according to him, was distinguished by her mischief.

He lived in marriage with her for 18 years, a daughter, Tatyana, was born, whose first words gave the name to another beloved children's hero- Cheburashka. The daughter gave Uspensky a granddaughter, Ekaterina, and a grandson, Eduard.

The second choice of the writer was Elena Uspenskaya. Together they adopted twins - Irina and Svetlana.

Ouspensky's third marriage grew out of office romance. This time, the writer’s wife was his co-host in the radio program “Ships Came into Our Harbor,” Eleonora Filina. The divorce from her was loud, public and very unpleasant.

Already at that time, the writer was diagnosed with an illness that he tried to cope with in Germany. Filina supported her husband for only a few months and then left him. As it turned out, the woman found young lover, and reproached Uspensky for despotism in family life.

Next to him in the difficult task of recovery was his second wife, who forgave Uspensky and supported him.

IN Lately the writer lived in the Moscow region, where he was surrounded by close people and numerous pets. He wrote and hoped for recovery

Illness and death

Eduard Nikolaevich Uspensky died on August 14 at his home in Moscow, he was 80 years old. After a successful operation in Germany, he began to recover, but the cancer returned.

The writer believed that he had “earned” serious illness on nervous soil, as a result of quarrels with his penultimate wife Eleanor Filina.

Quotes

“My works are sermons. Every time I want to say something to the guys, I start inventing a story.”

“To teach a child, any means are good, even direct bribery - change pages with ten-ruble bills - read a certain number of pages - get money.”

“But I always knew that I would write for children. I started with some poems, but they didn’t want to publish me. They said it was bad, some kind of entertainment, just counting rhymes. They said we need to write something serious for children, like Agnia Barto. She told me that too. But I didn’t write anything serious.”

“Now the most talented young children’s writer can publish his book with a circulation of 5-10 thousand, which means throwing it in the trash. Because without animation, without cinema, a book is doomed to die.”

“When you instruct a person, teach him how he should act, he will never follow the advice, and even if he follows, nothing will work out for him. Therefore, it is best to live with your own mind from a young age, without forcing yourself into any average framework, rules or standards. That’s what I’ve been doing all my life.”
