The player will be able to feel like the leader of a small detachment of people who are hiding from a military conflict taking place in their city. To survive, people need to equip their shelter, obtain useful resources in the form of food, medicine and protective equipment. It is worth understanding that civilians do not take part in war, but are simply trying to save their lives.
The project features procedural generation of events, so each new playthrough will be different from the previous one. The project also includes a division into classes. Some characters are great at finding resources, others are good at healing, and still others are good at cooking. Also, all the heroes have their own shortcomings, such as sickness, short temper and addiction to cigarettes or coffee. During the passage, the player will constantly be faced with a choice that affects the group and its psychological state. Due to its high-quality graphics and overall dark atmosphere, the game received high reviews from critics.
RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard

The plot of the game tells about Ethan, an ordinary guy who lost his beloved Mia about three years ago. A sudden message from a missing girl forces the hero to go on a search. During the investigation, Ethan ends up in an old house where he finds his wife, but instead of a warm welcome, the girl turns into a monster and tries to kill the hero. Now Iatan's only task is to rescue and survive in a house filled with infected people.
Playing is a first-person shooter, which is made according to the canons of the classic Resident Evil parts. The hero is an ordinary untrained person, he has a small inventory with a small selection of weapons and a meager supply of ammunition, and the character dies from several blows. From the old parts, logic puzzles and narrow locations that cause a claustrophobic effect were inherited. The depressing atmosphere of hopelessness is achieved through the actual immortality of enemies (damage can only delay the enemy), as well as constant persecution. The project received high marks from gaming journalists and critics, and the gaming community positively accepted the return of the beloved series to the roots of the survival-horror genre.
Ark: Survival Evolved miraculously made it out of the early access sump on Steam. Dinosaur survival (not one survived the meteorite fall, but oh well: reality is always more boring than fiction) has become a full-fledged commercial product that can be purchased not only on PCs, but also on consoles, where they try to keep completely crude crafts away. We can only be happy for Ark, and in connection with the official release, we decided to remember - what other worthy games have succeeded in the difficult genre of survival?
10.Miscreated
There are plenty of clones of survival games, but at least this one stands out from the crowd with its graphics: the developers have squeezed the maximum possible out of Cryengine. In addition, Miscreated paid attention to the horror aspect, and not just pure survival. The game starts with only a flashlight in your hands, and around you are hordes of hostile mutants. But of course the worst thing is the other players. As always friendly and ready to help.
9. Starbound
The developers decided not to bother too much and simply moved the insanely popular Terraria into space. Or rather, not exactly into outer space, but to other planets. In addition to building, crafting and farming, the game has a story, side quests and even surprisingly difficult bosses. However, there is no pressure to complete the storyline: you can simply invite friends and endlessly build a giant castle.
8.DayZ
A great idea that was ruined by sudden fame that fell on the developer’s head like snow. Initially, DayZ was supposed to be a survival simulator in which people unite against a common threat - zombies, and only small groups of renegades form gangs of raiders. However, the players quickly realized that the zombies were too brainless, and the grandiose settlements of the survivors would remain plans on paper. As a result, everyone turned into raiders.
7. Conan: Exiles
Funcom's attempt to make their own Ark with a sultry desert and frosty north instead of a blooming jungle is actually not that bad. Of course, the project is secondary, and tamed dinosaurs are intended to be replaced by dubious chthonic monsters, but at least Funcom is a respected company, and not a collective of indie scammers. This can be felt in the overall quality of the product, which, following Ark, can even get out of the early access swamp.
6. The Forest
Lost with cannibals. A survivor of a plane crash quickly realizes that the mystical island is inhabited by local tribes who treat the alien much like the British explorer Cook - that is, they already see him in a cauldron with horseradish, oil, salt and spices. The forest in The Forest is made on the Unity 5 engine, and in its splendor is not much inferior to the competing flora from Miscreated.
5. H1Z1
Unlike DayZ, this project at least survived and did not become a victim of its own popularity. Here the construction of the bases was completed, the complex laws of survival were somehow balanced, and the most ardent lovers of exterminating their neighbors were given a separate sandbox, that is, a separate game - King of The Kill. As a result, there are those left in H1Z1 who understand: zombies are a common threat, and we need to fight against it. Crafting and construction (that is, key elements of the survival genre) are mainly encouraged here, and not PUBG-style madness.
4. Survival (addition to The Division)
Yes, there are no zombies, construction or crafting here, but there is more than enough survival. In addition to all other misfortunes, a severe ice storm hits New York. The player starts each “round” in low-level gear, with a simple pistol, and even infected with a deadly disease that has already killed 80% of the civilian population. The cold, gangs of NPC raiders and of course a couple of dozen surviving players will make your life simply wonderful.
3. This War of Mine
Who said that survival must be in 3D, with other players, crafting and monsters? You can create an unforgettable experience on two levels, and not a funny one a la Terraria, but a thought-provoking one. A group of civilians survives during the war - even the essence of the conflict is no longer important, the main thing is to hold out for at least another day. It makes no sense to plan beyond 24 hours - the physical and mental state of your charges, as well as the total shortage of all resources, will not allow you to do this.
2. The Long Dark
There are no zombies, no mutants, no unscrupulous warriors, no cannibals, or even the most terrible monsters - other real players. Why all this, if in the completely frozen Canada of the meteorological post-apocalypse, even one half-dead wolf can become a serious threat? The Long Dark is another rare candidate who has served his time in Purgatory (Steam Early access), and now has a bright future ahead of a full release. There is still something in this game, since they even decided to make a TV series based on it.
1. Don’t Starve with all the extras
Survival is a conflict genre. His fans constantly strive to kill each other, and it doesn’t matter how: be it with a bare butt and just a prehistoric boulder in their hands, or in energy armor on a dinosaur with laser guns. Therefore, I had to think about what exactly to put first in order to avoid a bloody conflict? Don’t Starve - most likely, no one will be offended for it. This game hides serious crafting and survival mechanics behind the deceptively funny cartoon graphics. In addition, mental health issues are covered. After all, sometimes your own materialized fears are much more difficult to defeat than yetis or giant spiders.
