Step by step drawing for children. Drawing a baby: portrait and full-length

Hello!

Children make us rejoice and smile, and cheerful and curious kids touch the eyes of even the most serious adults. Children are a very popular topic in fine arts, because it’s so natural to draw what delights. Today's lesson is devoted to how to draw a child in which we will study the proportions of the body depending on the child's age.

Rules for constructing a portrait

First, let's look at the features of head construction, because the proportions baby face differ significantly from the proportions of an adult.

  • The skull, in relation to the face, occupies a much larger area than in adults. Forehead in relation to the face is significantly greater than that of an adult.
  • In adults eyes are on the central horizontal line. In children, eyebrows are located on this line, and the eyes are much lower.
  • Chin, jaw, cheekbones and bridge of nose In children, they are not yet fully developed, so they stand out much less than adults.
  • Ears in people they are always placed in line with the eyes (above) and the base of the nose (below), children are no exception. Since the line of the eyes and nose moves slightly downward, the ears are also placed a little lower.

For that? To quickly and correctly build a baby’s head, without going into details, it’s enough to know one simple formula:

Human balance in motion

Head proportions depending on age

The older the baby, the closer the proportions of his head are to the proportions of an adult. Let's look at everything as the baby grows, this will help you understand how to draw a child depending on his age.

The illustration above shows the sequence of constructing two children's portraits. The first is a very baby, up to a year old, the second is a girl of 3-4 years old. In babies under one year old, the proportions still correspond to the diagram given above. In older children, the lines of the eyebrows, eyes, nose and mouth slowly move upward until the eyes reach the center line, as in adults, a more expressive chin also appears.

In younger children school age these lines shift by about half, then they are almost equal to the proportions of adult people.
Here's a visual illustration. Here is shown how to draw children aged 6-10 years, the proportions of their faces have greatly shifted to the top, and are very close to the proportions of adults. However, we understand very well that these are children. And there are several little secrets here, which ones you read further.

Drawing a person's nose

Features of a child's portrait

A child's face can be very elongated or, conversely, very round; the proportions, depending on the shape of the skull and individual characteristics, can vary greatly.

What does it do child portrait childish?

  1. First of all, how big it seems to us Iris in relation to protein. The smaller the baby, the larger part of the eye the iris takes up.
  2. The distance from the outer corner of the eye to the ear is greater than in adults (more than the length of one eye).
  3. Nose not yet formed, and therefore small and cute.

Except enough simple rules construction of the head, you definitely need to know and correctly show some anatomical features of children's faces:

  • bridge of the nose in babies it is not yet formed and is poorly distinguished; it is round and much more recessed than in adults.
  • Cartilage nose also not yet formed. For now it is much smaller than it will be when the baby grows up. Have you ever seen children with long noses? How smaller child, the simpler the anatomy of his nose. Almost all children have slightly upturned, snub-nosed noses. Then, gradually, some structural features are added to these spouts.
  • Nostrils usually large, draw them at a fairly wide distance from each other. This is important so that your baby really looks like a child, and not an old man.
  • Cheekbones in babies they do not stand out because they are not sufficiently developed and are well covered with plump cheeks.
  • Sponges plump, in most cases the upper lip seems to hang over the lower.
  • Chin also significantly smaller than in adults, it is not yet sufficiently developed, so it does not protrude forward, but is rather recessed under the lower lip.
  • Under the jawline there are most often folds of fat that visually lengthen the head and make the neck less noticeable.

How the face (eye line) changes depending on the age of the child

Let's clarify some very important points once again:

  • The smaller the child, the larger his eyes appear. Children's eyes are placed quite far from each other, at least there is such a visual effect. If you draw the eyes close, the baby will not be attractive. The inner corners of the eyes are in line with the nostrils, and the bridge of the nose is almost indistinguishable.
  • The iris in children is fully formed and will no longer grow, while all other parts of the face are still undergoing development and growth. Therefore, on a small child’s face, the eyes seem very large and expressive. From under the eyelids we see most of the iris and very little of the white part of the eyeball.
  • In an adult, the distance between the eyes and ears is equal to the length of one eye; in children, this distance is greater. As the child grows older, this distance decreases.

Drawing human ears

Full height

child in full height We draw according to the same principles as an adult. We start from a primitive skeleton, build up muscles, add details.

There are two important points in building a child’s figure:

  • the smaller the child, the shorter his legs in relation to his entire height
  • and the larger the head in relation to the entire figure

In newborn babies, the head occupies 1/4 of the height of his body, and the length of the legs is slightly more than a quarter of the baby's height.

As the baby grows, his proportions change. Mainly the legs and torso grow, while the size of the head changes very slightly. Below is a diagram that will help you find the correct ratios of the child’s figure, according to his age.

Who said that real art is paints and canvases? We are ready to tell you about the direction to artistic creativity, which was and is well mastered by such masters as Vrubel or Brian Duey. They perfectly executed drawings with a simple pencil. And these works excite, delight and bring pleasure. Is it possible to adopt their technique and learn to draw? similar method? Of course you can! But how and what is needed for this?

  1. First, let's talk about why you should pay attention to this area.
  2. Next important question, which we will focus on, are the secrets of drawing.
  3. And let’s complete this excursion into the world where black and white images reign with a small but pleasant gift.

Monochrome pencil drawings

Speaking about the greatness and genius of everything simple, one cannot help but recall the ordinary pencil. Which of us is not familiar with it and has not held it in our hands? We have all been fluent in it since childhood. Of course, for beginners, for very tiny children, it seems so easy to pick up a pencil and start “creating” scribbles.

But the child grows, and he sees that the range of uses for a pencil is huge, and it can be used in different ways. Someone builds cities, bridges and houses for them on paper. Another one lays out a route for them on the map. trip around the world. And the third one writes poetry or draws a portrait of his beloved.

So easily and simply the pencil entered our lives and became our assistant and friend. And pictures drawn in pencil are already a whole trend, stylish and having their own unique charm.

Their distinctive feature is that they are absolutely universal. And therefore their possibilities are endless. Drawn in pencil, they are:

  • Suitable for any age. Both small children find it interesting to look at them, and adults like to use them in their posts on social networks.
  • There are no limiting criteria for their use. It will be interesting for girls and boys to display similar beautiful pictures, as a status or give them to your friend.
  • You can copy them or you can easily learn how to perform them yourself (copy them).
  • Different nature of images. These can be cute pictures with cute fluffies, they can be funny and funny, or they can be similar to photographs.

And most importantly, pencil drawing looks incredibly attractive and convincing. It can decorate not only your profile on a page on social networks, but also your morning and the whole day with pleasant memories.

Options for drawing simple images

The main secret why pencil drawings are cool, original and attract attention is that they look as if they were alive. Everything is drawn so realistically and accurately that it seems that people are about to start talking, or laugh, or cry, and the objects can be taken and used.

Why are they so cool and everything looks so natural? What brings them to life? Take a closer look, through the light strokes it is noticeable that the master thought through not only the accuracy of the lines conveying the image and silhouette, he paid Special attention one tiny nuance, thanks to which the images are not only beautiful, but also almost material. What is this? Light and shadow.

Masterfully working on chiaroscuro, the artist achieves apparent volume. Before us, as they were, are simple black and white pictures for sketching. But when a shadow appeared, for example, from a curl of hair falling on the face, or from a vase on the table, everything suddenly came to life.

Can you do the same? Do you want to learn? Do you want yours to look realistic? Then you have come to us correctly!

Step-by-step master classes

It’s easy to say: “draw,” but how can you really do it if you’ve never studied it and it seems like you have no talent? The team of our site gives all their friends an amazing opportunity to learn how to make pencil drawings step by step. Without teachers, you yourself are able to become an artist and delight yourself and your loved ones with your creativity. How? If you take our tips, you can use them to master sketching and repetition techniques. It's not complicated at all. And the result will please you.

It's been a while since I wrote anything on the blog. And there are reasons for this, of course. Firstly, we began to be very active in our workshop: we make wooden toys, children's decor, sometimes furniture, and of course, we do all the organizational matters. It takes a lot of energy and almost all the inspiration. Secondly, our girls have grown up and don’t really fit into the format anymore theme weeks, since most of the day they are in kindergarten, where they study, play and communicate with children a lot. After gardening, you want to play with indoor toys, draw, take a walk, read fairy tales, watch movies with the whole family, or bake cookies. Thirdly, we are going to school soon, but not a regular one, but a small and private one, which we organize ourselves;) We open in a month. If you are interested, you can read about our school using the link (text in Ukrainian). And this school takes away the remaining inspiration and strength.

So, lesson 1. Aerial perspective.

If you are not an artist at all, don’t be scared :) In fact, all this is very simple, interesting and fascinating, but like everything in the world, it has its own terminology, but the terms almost always sound scary (at least for me).

So what is “aerial perspective”?

This is when you look into the distance and what is closer to the horizon seems lighter, and what is closer to you has more saturated colors.

From the dictionary:

Aerial perspective – Blurring or loss of clarity of distant objects caused by the atmosphere. The effect occurs due to the disappearance of color and brightness contrast between distant objects and the background.

Here are examples of aerial perspective:

To explain to a child what aerial perspective is, it is enough to show examples and draw his attention to those objects that are far away and those that are close - the difference is very noticeable.

Now let's start drawing!

We will need:

  • paint (gouache, acrylic, in principle, watercolor is also possible) three colors– white, yellow and blue,
  • brush,
  • our blank for drawing,
  • jar of water,
  • palette or white plate,
  • paper napkins to wipe something off or blot your brush if necessary.

Drawing order:

  1. Mix white and blue paint on the palette to get a very light shade. This will be the color of the sky.
  2. We invite the child to color only the sky.
  3. Then you need to paint the clouds white and the sun yellow.
  4. Mix white and blue again (or add more blue paint to the previous batch) to get a light shade that is a little richer than the color of the sky.
  5. We color the row of mountains that are closest to the sky.
  6. We repeat the batches, adding more blue and coloring the next row of mountains.
  7. We paint the very front row - hills and trees - with pure blue or add very little to it white at your discretion.
  8. All! Drawing mountains using the principle aerial perspective ready!

And here's how our mountains turned out:

Good day, dear parents. Today we will talk about how to teach a child to draw step by step. You must understand that this method is the most accessible for young children. We'll consider age characteristics, as well as the basic rules and methods of reproducing some paintings using special algorithms.

What are the benefits of drawing

  1. The child develops fine motor skills.
  2. The drawings reveal the worldview, convey emotions and feelings.
  3. The baby develops his own opinion.
  4. When a child draws, the right and left hemispheres of the brain actively develop. Thus, he, in essence, plays and shows his creative inclinations.
  5. Promotes the development of visual skills, speech, memory, touch and thinking.
  6. The process allows you to develop discipline, self-organization and perseverance.
  7. The baby gets used to finishing what he starts.
  8. Drawing can be considered as a way of relaxing time, which replaces active games.

A step-by-step method of creating drawings

Step-by-step drawing is a method of depicting drawings, which makes it possible to do it sequentially, following simple instructions and diagrams. First you need to teach your child to draw simple drawings and then move on to more complex ones.

Often, even adults find it difficult to understand how to draw a particular creature or object. Knowing how to do it using simple geometric figures, the drawing process will be much easier and simpler. That is why this method Well applicable when teaching children.

When I was little, my mother bought a special book for me step-by-step drawing. I didn't buy this for my son. Somehow it turned out that my child began to immediately draw entire compositions, without thinking about anything for a second. I received and still receive great pleasure from this process.

Learning at home

First you need to take care of purchasing necessary tools to create a child's first masterpieces. To do this you will need:

  • quality album;
  • soft simple pencil;
  • good eraser;
  • a set of colored pencils;
  • schemes for step by step drawing.

Don't be surprised that this moment so little equipment needed. Better first It’s a good idea to introduce your child to drawing with pencils, and only then move on to crayons or paints.

You also need to make sure you have a comfortable table, chair, and good lighting. When the lesson begins, eliminate all distractions and irritants.

It is necessary to remember to follow certain rules during the learning process:

  • haste is a bad adviser;
  • you need to make every effort;
  • you must try to depict the drawing in the same sequence as indicated in the diagram;
  • you need to reproduce the picture, thinking about it and remembering your actions, so that later you have the opportunity to do it yourself, without using diagrams;
  • the first jobs should be fairly easy and simple to complete, then you need to consistently move on to more complex tasks;
  • Remember that you cannot complement the baby’s drawing. Your actions will only upset him.

We teach children from three to four years old

  1. For a child aged 3 years, you only need to select soft pencils. This is due to insufficient pressure.
  2. We show the baby how to hold it correctly. If necessary, we help with our own hands.
  3. Remember that children at 3 and 4 years old are not yet able to confidently hold a pencil, and, therefore, draw straight lines. Therefore, at first you will have to practice doing exactly this.
  4. For children of this age, it is recommended to purchase special printed notebooks in which you can trace finished pictures.
  5. The next stage is familiarization with simple geometric shapes. We draw a triangle, circle, oval, rectangle, square.
  6. As soon as the child has mastered geometric shapes and they have begun to work out for him, we move on to transforming them into new objects. For example, you can create a bus from small circles and a rectangle.

We introduce children from five to seven years old

  1. If a child who is already 5 years old was previously familiar with simple techniques drawing, then you can from a simple pencil move on to a set of colored ones, also to felt-tip pens or paints. Explain to your child that his image can be colored by giving different colors to certain objects.
  2. At the age of 6, a child will be able to learn how to create compositions and entire plots in his paintings.
  3. At this age, children can be asked to draw on a piece of paper everything they notice in everyday life.
  4. If your daughter or son has questions about creating paintings, you must always pay attention and try to find answers to them.
  5. A child of 7 years old will already consciously convey his emotions through drawings.

Examples

I bring to your attention a plan of four step-by-step drawings. Start with the simplest thing - a tree or a rose, and finally try the method of drawing a person step by step. You will see that creating such pictures is not so difficult; any child can cope with the task.

Drawing a tree

Convey to the child that it should consist of a trunk, leaves and branches.

  1. Draw a trunk, pay attention to the fact that at the base it is much wider than at the top.
  2. Think about what kind of tree you are depicting. Remember that, for example, a birch trunk is quite thin and has curves, while an oak trunk is massive.
  3. Now we need to add branches. Please note that they are wider at the base. You also need to understand that they are larger at the bottom of the trunk. It must be remembered that the branches of a tree begin to grow from about a quarter of its entire height. The branches are depicted directed towards the sun, that is, raised upward.
  4. Try to draw small ones on thick branches to add realism to your drawing.
  5. For the first time, you don’t have to draw each leaf, but depict the crown as one mass.
  6. Now you can color the resulting tree.

Create a rose

  1. Draw a smooth line that will be the stem of the plant.
  2. Draw leaves on the stem.
  3. Draw an oval. This will be our future bud.
  4. Inside the oval we depict the main petals, there are two of them. We draw it so that the center of the petals resembles a rolled roll.
  5. We finish drawing the small side petals.
  6. All that's left is to add some color.

Drawing a cat step by step

  1. Let's draw the head in the form of an oval.
  2. Now you need to draw a triangle in the center of the circle. This will be the nose, above it there are two circles - eyes.
  3. Draw the muzzle, add two arches that originate from the nose.
  4. Now we need to do the torso. For this purpose, draw an oval.
  5. Draw the paws and add a tail.
  6. Now let's add two triangles, placing them on the head. These will be the ears.
  7. Inside each resulting triangle, add one more.
  8. Add mustache.
  9. The cat is ready, all that remains is to decorate it.

Drawing the first man

Such an object is quite complex, and it is better to leave it for last when getting acquainted with the step-by-step drawing.

However, it is worth knowing that after acquiring certain skills in step-by-step drawing, even such a drawing will not seem heavy and will be easily recreated by a child.

  1. To depict the head, draw a regular oval.
  2. Now you need to add a rectangle directly below the drawn oval. This will be part of the torso, from the waist to the head.
  3. Next you need to connect the drawn parts. This will give you a neck.
  4. Below the rectangle we draw another one, the same in width, but longer in length.
  5. The resulting rectangle needs to be divided into two halves, these will be the legs.
  6. Next, you need to depict the arms by drawing thin, long rectangles along the upper part of the body.
  7. Now you can dress the resulting little man. Let's add a neck for the sweater, draw trousers, shoes and hands.
  8. Add facial features and ears.
  9. So it turned out to be a little man. All that remains is to brighten it up by decorating it.

Now you know how to teach your child to draw. The main thing is to be patient and do not put pressure on the baby. He'll be ready when the time will come. Try to explain his mistakes as much as possible, remember that you cannot interfere with the children’s work and make any adjustments to it.

The first thing to do is draw an oval for the HEAD, not the oval of the face and not the opened cranium, but the COMPLETE head. To be more precise, the head looks like an upside-down egg.

Exactly in the middle we draw a vertical, straight line (axis of symmetry). She will help us draw symmetrically all parts of the face.

A portrait with one eye larger than the other and at different heights will look strange. Brrrrr... Therefore, we will align everything relative to the middle of the face.

Divide the length of the entire head into two equal parts. Draw a horizontal line. On this line we will draw the eyes, but a little later. First, let's find the location of all the other parts.

At the top of the head we make a notch that defines the hair growth line, i.e. This is where the forehead will begin. We do this approximately “by eye”. The remaining part will be the face.

Divide the length of the face into three equal parts. The first line, as I said, is the beginning of the hair, the second is the eyebrows, the third is the edge of the nose.

On the line of the eyes, the one that is exactly in the middle of the HEAD, draw eyes. Please note that the distance between the eyes is equal to the length of one eye.

Our pupils are not located exactly in the middle of the eye, but are slightly hidden under the upper eyelid.

Draw the nose. We have already decided on the length, all that remains is to decide on the width. Typically, the width of the wings of the nose is equal to the distance between the eyes. Don't forget to check the symmetry of your face i.e. measure the distance from the right and left sides to the line in the middle.
