Thanks to the idea of Vladimir and Tamara Maksimov, the country recognized Boris Grebenshchikov and his group Aquarium, the group Bravo with extravagant Jeanne Aguzarova, “Zuki MU”, “Secret”, and many, many others.
Everything about the program was interesting – the design, the script, and the host’s manners. But what was most attractive was that the pop stars on the program opened up in a completely new way. The carefree merrymakers on stage turned into erudite and witty interlocutors. Added to the love and adoration from fans was a sense of respect. Or vice versa (unfortunately, this also happened).
The program became a sensation in the second half of the 80s. What could surprise her in 1997, when she went on air again after a seven-year break? How did you want to attract the viewer, seemingly oversaturated with all kinds of information, including music?
Then, in the late 90s, many even had some fear - whether the returning program would deteriorate, or whether it would betray its principles, honest and open.
I would like to pay tribute to the authors of the program. Not only did they not break trust, but they also returned on time. After the first programs, viewers realized that they missed to national heroes after so many years of being loaded with Western television standards.
In 1997, the broadcast format did not change. Everything also focused on the competitive moment, all the stars also competed for the viewers' sympathy. Still, the program was a “mirror of the sinner” for the stars of show business.
What was new and interesting in the renewed broadcasts? What was new was the appearance of the heroes of the 90s, and the most interesting were the “fights” of the stars different generations. The viewing public of the program was very diverse in age, so the chances of the participants in the fight were equal. This is what the authors were counting on, so as not to offend the artists. There was only one winner, but the difference in votes was not significant.
There were many exciting programs. In one, for example, viewers could give preference to Leontiev of the 80s or Leontiev of the 90s, in others they assessed the family artistic couples Agutin - Varum, Milyavskaya - Tsekalo. It is a pity that the program was closed in 2001 for reasons unknown to the viewer. Today there is clearly a lack of kind and frank dialogue in the “Musical Ring”, from which everyone benefited - both the stars and their fans.

The idea of creating the program belonged to Vladimir and Tamara Maksimov. “Musical Ring” began appearing on television screens back in 1983, as one of the sections of the “Horizon” program.

The first host of the program was its creator Tamara Maksimova. Later, her daughter Anastasia joined her. The first guest of the program was Valery Leontyev.

The singers were asked questions that it would be better not to answer, especially on the air of such a popular program as “Musical Ring” instantly became.
Before the rounds, telephone numbers were provided, by calling which viewers could vote for their favorite performance. There was most often more than one performer, so the audience chose the winner. In fact, half of the airtime was devoted to music. And in the second, journalists eagerly attacked the guests of the program. Sometimes the musicians shared funny incidents from life or stories during rehearsals. But neither the format of the program nor the time allowed any fried social scandal to unfold on air. What kind of scandalousness can we talk about if even when Tamara Maksimova wished the audience a Merry Christmas in 1989, it did not pass the attention of the authorities. The presenter was reprimanded, and it was decided to forget about the incident.
However, in 1990, the Musical Ring was closed. An attempt to resuscitate the transmission in 1997 showed that the patient was more likely dead than alive. Times have changed and the Ring format no longer fits the needs of the people. In 1997, no one would be surprised by caustic questions on air and attempts to avoid answering, as was the case under the Soviet Union. However, despite the change in the interests of viewers, “Music Ring” lasted on the airwaves for another three years and was finally closed in 2000.
True, 10 years later the NTV television company tried to release the program “NTV Musical Ring”. But the owners of the Musical Ring brand saw this as a violation of copyright, hastening to clarify that their program had nothing to do with NTV.
