Names of fairy tales with numbers. Numbers in Russian folk tales

All parents want to raise their children to be smart and capable of science. And early math classes can help with this. However, children are not very fond of this complex science. A fairy tale about numbers will help kids get acquainted with the basics of mathematics.

You can learn mathematics through play

It would seem, what kind of games and fairy tales can we talk about when we are talking about such a serious science as mathematics. However, wise teachers argue that even younger preschoolers can be explained various nuances in this direction if the activity is made interesting and exciting for the kids. Stories that feature living beings who are given names - numbers and figures - are perceived by novice mathematicians more effectively than a dry statement of material, facts and laws.

In addition, all children love stories in which fiction is intertwined with reality, where good triumphs over evil. Therefore, the fairy tale about numbers is also useful for children because it not only gives mathematical concepts, but also, in a traditional allegorical manner, reveals to them the essence of human relationships.

A tale about and bit units

Modern children enjoy reading fairy tales about numbers and numbers. And there are quite a few of them written by children’s writers. Even the guys themselves compose amazing stories, which contain numbers.

For example, one girl came up with an amazing fairy tale about a kingdom ruled by the wise and kind Queen Thousand. She loved her subjects very much, whom she constantly rewarded, multiplying them with herself. And the inhabitants of her state became more majestic and significant from this.

But then a disease befell the queen, which turned her, with the help of a terrible virus - “inverted comma” - into 0.001. And now, multiplying her subjects, the queen reduced them a thousand times... And no one could cure her, except for one very wise doctor. It was he who again injected the queen with the changeling virus, which returned her to her previous size. This is such an amazing fairy tale about numbers.

City of Tens

This is a fairy tale about numbers from one to ten. They, like people, lived in their own city, made friends, quarreled, made peace and made mistakes. So, with the words “Once upon a time there were numbers,” the mathematical fairy tale begins...

In a beautiful small town that was located on the bank of a forest stream, there were small colorful houses. They were very small, just very tiny, no bigger than a matchbox. But the houses themselves seemed quite large to the residents of this city. And all because the inhabitants of this themselves settlement They were tiny, tiny, the size of a bean.

But, despite the small size of the inhabitants, serious passions were boiling in the town. And one of the wise old-timers of the town, whose name was the number Six, decided to write down the most amazing stories in a book and call it “Tales about numbers and numbers.”

The first story is about numbers called “Who is more important?”

Naturally, the story began with the words “Once upon a time there were numbers.” like any other, it seems to be a lie, but there is an important hint in it that should become a lesson good fellows yes to wise maidens.

The numbers lived together and in harmony. Everything was especially good for four inseparable friends: One, Two, Three and Four. But only once did they have an argument about who was more important among them. It was started by the Four:

Although I love you, my bosom friends, I must tell you one thing. In fact, I am the most important among us. Look: the house has four corners, the table has four legs. Dogs and cats have the same number of paws, and cars have the same number of wheels. And therefore, from today on, you must address me as “you”!

What stupidity! - Number Three was indignant. - The most important number among us is me! Just look: the number 3 in fairy tales is magical, magical. Tsars always have three sons, and tasks need to be completed, not four, not two, but three. And all the most important things happen on the third day. Therefore, it’s better to call me “Mr. Three.”

Well, depending on how you look at it,” Deuce doubted. “People usually look for a mate in order to create a full-fledged family.” A person also has pairs of arms and legs. Just imagine what people go to four legs- this is incomprehensible to the mind! A person has two eyes and an ear. So let’s better address me as “you”, it will be fairer.

“That’s right, but something’s still not right,” Unity laughed. “Even though I’m the smallest among us, I’m the very first in the number row.” And during the competition, for some reason the winner is awarded first place and given a gold medal. And for second place only silver is awarded... I won’t talk about third and fourth place here - that’s somehow immodest.

People always call the highest quality first-class. And most buyers will bypass a second-rate or, even more so, a third-rate product. And the skill of specialists is most often designated by categories, where the first indicates the highest level.

And if we talk about the structure of the human body, then the organs, of which people have one each, are the most important: the heart, liver, brain.

If you think about our main purpose - to participate in mathematical operations, then only I can divide any number by myself without a remainder, and in such a way that it will not even notice it.

You know what? I think we are all equally important! And therefore there is no need to argue about it. Let's not argue anymore. And let our mathematical fairy tale end with the words “Amicably and in harmony lived the numbers.” And new stories will be about interesting events, which will take place in a town where residents do not argue or quarrel with each other.

And since then, One, Two, Three and Four no longer find out which of them is more important.

The second story is called “The Tale of the Number 5”

The incident is like this

Happened here the other day:

Five suddenly came running

All covered in dirt, dust, burrs!

“What's wrong with you? Where have you been? -

Seven and Eight were surprised.

“Oh, leave me alone, guys!

Climb where they don’t ask,

Ugly! I'm tired", -

So she said and fell...

Six came out of the bushes:

"I'll tell you everything as it is.

This morning the number is Five

I ran for a walk with the Hare.

Then the hunter runs out,

It shoots as expected.

The hare falls and Five

She started running in fear.

I put the Hare in the basket,

I lifted the burden onto my back

And he went to his home.

Five, get up! The bunny is alive!

One two three four five -

The bunny is running again!

New tales, friends,

I’ll compose it for all of you!”

The background of the third tale about the Seven-Poker

In the town of Tens there lived the number Seven. Locals They teased her with Kocherga - they came up with a nickname for her. And this figure, indeed, was very similar to this device for stirring coals in a stove.

As you know, a poker is a thing with a strange character. On the one hand, you can use it to light the stove and heat the house. A good thing, it seems to be necessary. But if you look at it from the other side, you can hit someone with a poker so hard that it doesn’t seem too much. Often in stories about the life of our ancestors, this cast-iron stick curved in the shape of an “G” appeared as a weapon in fights and even murders.

So the character of the Seven was also contradictory. Yesterday she came up with a week that included 7 days, and made the last, seventh, a day off. How grateful everyone was to her! And today I got angry at someone and started yelling: “If you get caught by me, I’ll take seven skins off you!”

And then she suddenly calmed down and drew such a beautiful rainbow in the sky - it’s simply a sight to behold! She bent seven multi-colored stripes into an arc and set them up as fairy-tale gates.

Only this is not a story, but a saying. The beginning of the fairy tale awaits the reader ahead...

How Seven-Kocherga got a new home

Maybe that was the case, or maybe it was all lies. They just say that Seven once decided new house build yourself. Yes, not simple, like everyone else, but special, so that it is about seven walls. She thought for a long time about how to do this, racking her brains. Nothing works! Seven used up a bunch of paper for drawings, used up a pack of pencils, but the matter never moved one iota.

Number Seven was very upset, almost to the point of tears. She locked herself in her old house and won’t come out. Everyone in the city even became worried that something bad might happen. They crowded around the fence that surrounded Number Seven’s home, discussing the situation, thinking about what to do. And suddenly…

They heard that from open windows suddenly amazing music started flowing. Yes, so wonderful that you can’t say it in a fairy tale or hear it in a dream! The Seven created such a gentle and pleasant, such a soulful melody.

And she, it turns out, out of grief that she didn’t have an extraordinary house, came up with seven notes. And with their help I learned to record melodies overheard by a stream and rustling trees, singing birds and artisans humming to themselves. At first I just wrote it down sheet music music, and then played the flute. So to this day, musicians record their works using these amazing icons.

What about the house? His numbers were built together for his neighbor Seven! It was new, solid, and had exactly seven walls. And the numbers painted it in seven colors, as if the rainbow itself had decided to rest on it. Since then, no one has teased Seven with the Poker anymore. After all, she alone managed to create such beautiful things - rainbows and music. And her name became “The Beautiful Seven”.

The fourth story, scary and terrible, about a bloodthirsty dragon named Zero

In a certain kingdom, the Arithmetic State, there lived numbers. A mathematical fairy tale would not be a fairy tale if various magic and inexplicable miracles did not happen in it. So the Arithmetic State was attacked by a bloodthirsty, evil and merciless dragon. His name was Zero.

He grabbed everyone indiscriminately, multiplied them by himself and destroyed them. And all because after this action the numbers themselves turned into Zero. And after each crime, the dragon grew a new head, he became stronger and more bloodthirsty. Well, there were fewer and fewer residents in the state. And then this happened terrible event- the dragon kidnapped the princess herself! Mourning was declared throughout the state.

They began to think and wonder how they could defeat the dragon, so that they could compose new, kind and funny fairy tales and tell them to their children. And they decided to make friends with the dragon, although it was, it must be said, not an easy matter.

They cast lots, and it turned out that the number 9 had to help the princess go to the dragon. In fairy tales, as you know, it is considered magical, because it is obtained by multiplying three (which is already part of the fairy-tale, magic numbers) by itself . “Three times three times the sun will rise, three times three times the dew will fall on the grass - and a rider on a horse will appear from behind the mountain. So he will save the princess from the fierce snake!” - said the royal prophets, performing their strange rituals.

And so it happened. It is not for nothing that numbers play an important role in Russian folk tales. That’s why here, exactly nine days later, Number Nine, riding a horse, rode up to the dragon’s lair to rescue the princess. And in his bosom he had a flask of spring water, which, they say, has magical powers.

And they met near the ninth mountain - the evil Zero and the selfless number Nine. Then the dragon laughed, beat his tail, and began to release fire from his mouth. But only Nine was not taken aback, jumped up to him and stood in front of the dragon, splashing magical spring water into his mouth. And Nine did not forget to smile, openly and friendly. Zero was even confused with amazement... Before the dragon even had time to perform his traditional multiplication, the numbers 9 and 0 merged in an instant and turned into one whole - the number Ninety.

And then the princess came out of the dungeon, kissed her savior, who became ten times stronger and more majestic, and gave him consent to become his faithful wife. They mounted a horse and rode home, happy and contented. This is where it ended scary tale about numbers. In mathematics, anyone who has “excellent” or “good” in the journal understands it. And if your knowledge of this science is weak, don’t blame me, learn the rules and solve examples, and next time you’ll understand everything!

Why did the king have three sons and why does the eyeless child need seven nannies?

Not only in real life Numbers play a huge role. Russian folk tales very often feature three sons, three tasks, three days. And the dragons or Snakes Gorynychi, which also appear three times, each time have an increasing number of heads: first three, then five, seven or nine, and in the third, the most difficult, time the monster can even have twelve of them. Numbers in Russian fairy tales play a purely symbolic role. A child who is not yet familiar with mathematics will not visually imagine exactly the number of heads the dragon in question has. For him, such concepts as increasing danger every time and the fact that there were many goals are important.

Is there some kind of algorithm that the numbers obey? Probably, there is. For example, three symbolizes perfection and harmony not only in Russian culture, but throughout the world. That’s why we remember the three heroes to this day. And just three elders appear to Ilya Muromets before his miraculous cure. And the distant place where the hero of the fairy tale often goes is located far away, somewhere in the thirtieth country.

IN Orthodox religion there is the Holy Trinity, symbolizing the unity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And in the ancient Slavic faith there was a deity with three heads. One head ruled over the heavenly world, the second over the earthly world, and the third over the underwater world.

The trail of fabulousness and enchantment also stretches behind the number seven. For example, everyone remembers fairy tales in which seven-league boots are found, Snow White ends up with seven dwarves, just as Sleeping Beauty ends up with the corresponding number of heroes.

Seven is also often found in proverbs and sayings.

  • Having measured seven times, you can only cut once.
  • Seven with a bipod, and one with a spoon.
  • Seven miles to heaven.
  • Seven do not wait for one.
  • Too many cooks spoil the broth.
  • Seven on the benches.

And such fame has been assigned to this number, most likely because once upon a time, even before the advent of the decimal number system, there was a septenary system. That is, two-digit numbers began not after ten, but after seven.

The same goes for the number five. After all, there was a time when it was fivefold and even eightfold. The only mystery left is why the number eight did not leave its mark in oral folk art.

But nine even in modern world often highlighted by people who are fascinated by the meanings of numbers and their influence on fate. This happens because this number seems to represent the beginning and the end life experience person. It carries the last earthly lesson of humanity - forgiveness.

However, the number two is also found in sayings and proverbs, which is not included in the category of “magic”. This is, rather, a reflection of the position of dialectical materialism, which reflects the unity and struggle of opposites.

  • Two bears cannot live in the same den.
  • Two boots - a pair, and both on the left foot.
  • If you chase two hares, you won't catch either.

And in modern fairy tale Lazy Vovka is “helped” by two people from the casket. And often stories tell about two daughters, where one is kind and hard-working, and the second is evil and lazy.

There are modern idioms with a variety of numbers, for example: “Simply like twice two”, “Twenty-five again!”, “It’s better to see with your own eyes once than to hear a hundred times.”

Numerology

Do you think that magic numbers only exist in fairy tales? Not at all! People have long been interested in the impact on human destinies numbers and numbers render. And on this basis numerology arose - either a science, or a belief in mystical power numbers. But, be that as it may, many people, no, no, and even pay attention to the fact that the numbers on a bus ticket or the number of oncoming transport seem to have the gift of prediction. Perhaps it's just a coincidence. But who knows…

Even the most inveterate cynics with great displeasure check into hotel rooms numbered 13 or 666. But almost everyone simply adore the seventh, third, fifth and ninth. Such fame has been attached to them among the people - some are considered good, magical, while others are considered to bring misfortune, even devilish.

Today you can find whole scientific works, in which, according to the scheme, it is possible to calculate your “number” by date of birth and read about yourself on the page dedicated to this number. The compilers of these works connect the character of a person, his capabilities, and his future precisely with this “main” number. And how right they are, everyone decides for himself.

Our acquaintance with numbers begins in early childhood. We don’t yet know how to read and count, but we already know “...there lived two brothers,” “... Mashenka met three bears,” “... and the Goat had seven kids.” Fairy tales are the favorite literary genre of all children. We decided to re-read the fairy tales we know and find out what numbers “live” in Russian folk tales.

Hypothesis: Can’t even literature do without numbers?

Target: find out what numbers live in Russian folk tales.

Research objectives:

  • collect information about the symbolism of numbers by analyzing literary sources;
  • find examples of the use of numbers in Russian folk tales;
  • analyze the frequency of use of numbers in these works;

The research method is the analysis of fairy tales and special literature on the topic.

History of numbers

By studying the literature on the topic, we learned that a long time ago, many thousands of years ago, our ancestors lived in small tribes. They wandered through fields and forests, along river and stream valleys, looking for food. Sometimes they fished and hunted. They dressed in the skins of killed animals. Life primitive people not much different from the life of animals. Watching surrounding nature, on which his life completely depended, our distant ancestor from many various items first learned to highlight individual items. From a pack of wolves - the leader of the pack, from a herd of deer - one deer, from an ear of grain - one grain. At first they defined this ratio as “one” and “many”.

Frequent observations of sets consisting of a pair of objects (eyes, ears, horns, wings, hands) led man to the idea of number. Our distant ancestor, talking about seeing two ducks, compared them to a pair of eyes. And if he saw more of them, he said: “Many.” Every time something unknown and mysterious began after the deuce. When they counted “one, two, many,” then after two there was “everything.” Therefore, the number 3, which should have followed the number 2 when counting, meant “everything.” Only gradually did man learn to identify three objects, and then four.

Then the man began to count in fives, tens and twenties (toes were also used!). Counting in tens is preserved in our decimal system Reckoning. The names of some numbers associated with the first “computing machine” - fingers and toes - have also been preserved. For example, the word “five” in Russian comes from the ancient Slavic word “pyast” - hand (“wrist”). And among some tribes the number “twenty” was called “the whole person”!

Symbolism of numbers

What place did numbers occupy in the destinies of the Russian people?

We re-read the following Russian folk tales:

  • "Little Khavroshechka"
  • "Kuzma Skorobogaty"
  • "Morozko"
  • "Swan geese"
  • "Masha and the Three Bears"
  • "Princess Frog"
  • "Kolobok"
  • "Seven-year-old daughter"
  • "The Fox, the Hare and the Rooster"
  • "Bubble, Straw and Shoe"
  • "The wolf and the seven Young goats"
  • "Elena the Wise"
  • "Koschei the Deathless"
  • “About the lazy and the carefree”
  • "Three sisters"
  • "War of the Mushrooms"

We found out that numbers in fairy tales are used to represent:

Number of main characters;

The number of tests that heroes must pass;

The number of objects involved in the actions;

Magical qualities inherent in objects;

Distances to the kingdom in which fabulous events take place (far away lands, the thirtieth kingdom);

Age of heroes;

Number 1.

The number “one”, as a rule, denotes the beginning, something unique, something very small, but at the same time very significant. His characteristic features are strength, energy, will, activity, initiative.

In general, the use of the number one is uncharacteristic of Russian folk tales. This is probably due primarily to family traditions Russian people. The number one in fairy tales most often indicates choice (one of the few) or the orphanhood of the hero (“alone”).

We came across the number 1 in fairy tales:

  • “Kuzma Skorobogatiy” - “Kuzenka lived and lived alone, in a dark forest...”;
  • “Little Khavroshechka” - “...she remained a little orphan...”.

Number 2.

The number 2 often symbolizes pairing, evenness, doubling. It embodies something transitory, unstable, divisible. In some sources it is interpreted as “indecisive, passive, subordinate, soft, plastic, feminine.” In fairy tales it occurs most often to denote the pairing of heroes and circumstances. This is due to the fact that in life there are always two opposites: good and evil, black and white, light and darkness, warm and cold, wealth and poverty, and many fairy tale plots are based on opposition.

  • “Geese-swans” - “They had a daughter and a little son...”;
  • “Morozko” - “...the stepmother had a stepdaughter and her own daughter”;
  • “About Lazy and Lazy” - “An old man and an old woman had two daughters. ...and the people called the older one Radiva, and the younger one Lazy.”

Number 3.

The number three appears in almost every fairy tale. "Three" is the most common number in fairy tales. Very often you can find in Russian legends and epics three wishes, three attempts, three from a casket, a stone by three roads, three heads by a monster.

In fairy tales we usually find: a stone at a crossroads, which offers the hero three paths, three choices, three kingdoms that must be passed through - copper, silver and gold, a father has three sons or three daughters.

  • “Three Sisters” - “Three married sisters lived in one village”;
  • “A bubble, a straw and a bast shoe” - “Once upon a time there was a bubble, a straw and a bast shoe”;
  • “Masha and the Three Bears” - “...she went out to the house where the three bears lived.”

From the fairy tale “Little Khavroshechka”: “And the mistress had three daughters. The eldest was called One-Eyed, the middle Two-Eyed, and the smaller Three-Eyed.” Three times the owner directed her three daughters to take turns watching who was helping Tiny Khavroshechka “spin, weave and roll into pipes.” “And on the third day the old woman sent her third daughter, Three-Eyes, and to the orphan more work I asked!” Khavroshechka put two of Three-Eyes' eyes to sleep, and forgot about the third. “Two eyes fell asleep, and the third sees everything: how Khavroshechka climbed into one of the cow’s ears, and came out into the other and picked up the finished canvases.”

From the fairy tale “The Frog Princess”: “In the old days, one king had three sons.” One of which, as usual main character- Ivan Tsarevich or Ivan the Fool went to the distant kingdom, in the thirtieth state. Where is it? It turns out that it’s close, because 3 x 9 = 27, 27 days is just that moon month– time of revolution of the Moon around the Earth. Let's go further: 3 x 10 = 30, and this is the period between two new moons.

Here is an indication of where the “Far Far Away Kingdom, Thirtieth State” is located - at a distance equal to a month’s journey.

Here is an example of fabulous mathematics.

Number 4.

The number four is a symbol of maximum stability. The Greeks believed that first of all there appeared: earth, water, air and fire. To navigate in space, people used knowledge four sides light (north, south, east, west), and the calendar year was divided into four seasons: winter, spring, summer, autumn. The number 4 symbolizes universal stability, order, completeness, reliability, stability and strength. The meaning of the number 4 is associated with the symbolism of a square. Even in prehistoric times, the number 4 was used to symbolize stability. Human life is divided into 4 periods: childhood, adolescence, maturity and old age.

  • “Kolobok” - 4 characters met Kolobok (hare, wolf, fox, bear)

“I left the hare,

I left the wolf

Left the bear

It’s easy to get away from you, fox!”;

  • “Seven-year-old daughter” - the Tsar asked 4 riddles: “The fourth riddle: what is the cutest thing in the world?”
  • “The Fox, the Hare and the Rooster” - 4 times the animals came to the hare’s aid: “They chased the dogs - they didn’t drive them out, the bear chased them - they didn’t drive them out, the bull chased them - they didn’t drive them out, and you, rooster, won’t drive them out!”

Number 5.

The number 5 is considered lucky number. It symbolizes constant search and self-improvement. Five symbolizes order and perfection and represents the five human senses: sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste.

  • “War of Mushrooms” - The number of mushrooms that the boletus called to war (white mushrooms, saffron milk caps, mushrooms, honey mushrooms, milk mushrooms): “Come, milk mushrooms, to my war!”
  • “Kuzma Skorobogaty” - “...he had a thin house, but one cockerel, and five hens.”

The numbers 4 and 5 are rare in Russian folk tales.

Most likely, the creators of fairy tales used them only as simple numerals to indicate quantity; it is no coincidence that these numbers are rarely used not only in fairy tales, but also in proverbs and sayings.

Number 7.

The number, which almost always denotes positive moments in people’s lives, was considered a symbol of holiness among many peoples. The number 7 consists of two perfect numbers 3 and 4, and therefore 7 is not only holy number, but also a symbol of reason. In the Bible, 7 is a symbol of the union of God and man.

Even in ancient times, 7 was considered a lucky number. The person perceived the world(light, smells, sounds, taste) through seven “holes” in the head (two eyes, two ears, two nostrils, mouth). It is no coincidence that there are seven colors in the rainbow, there are seven wonders of the world, and there are 7 days in a week. There are 7 notes in music.

It is interesting to note that our memory is particularly good at retaining only up to seven different impressions or objects. With a greater load, errors in memorization increase sharply.

The number seven appears in such tales as:

  • “The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats” - “Once upon a time there lived in beautiful house a goat with her seven kids."
  • “Seven Simeons” - “...he left behind seven twin sons, which are called the Seven Simeons,”
  • “Seven-year-old daughter” - “I have a seven-year-old daughter And letka, she taught me.”

Number 12

This number supreme perfection, this is considered all over the world. A dozen is made up of the multiplication of two perfect numbers 3 and 4, therefore it is the height of perfection. In most languages, dozen means hefty, i.e. strong, healthy.

The symbolism of 12 is used not only to indicate quantity (“twelve brothers are great guys”), but also to enhance mystery and mystery: at exactly 12 o’clock incredible transformations and magic begin, so the symbolism of the number 12 is most often used in fairy tales.

  • “Elena the Wise” - “At exactly twelve o’clock the soldier hears someone shouting from this tower,”
  • “Koschei the Immortal” - “...here a heroic horse is chained with twelve chains.”

Conclusion

To summarize, we can say that Russian folk tales are riddled with numbers. The presence of numbers is observed everywhere and almost always they appear as sacred and deeply symbolic.

Even numbers - two, four, six, eight - are much less common in oral folk art. It's connected withthe superstitious belief that an even number is associated with death, the number of the “devil”.

The number 3 is most often used in Russian folk tales.

Three is:

  • man, with his body, soul, spirit;
  • birth, life, death;
  • three periods of any entity: beginning, middle and end;
  • past, present and future.

The number 3 makes the reader think of magic, of perfection. The constant tripling of the motif creates a measured rhythm of the narrative.

Thus, the choice of numerals in fairy tales is based on the popular idea of the meaning of numbers.

We came to the conclusion that numerals play literary text an important role, and their study helps to penetrate into the thought laid down by the people, to better understand the history of their people.
