There is not enough memory on Android. What to do if there is not enough virtual memory

This is the question we received from one of the users of our site, Alexey. He writes that when downloading an application from the Google Play Store, an error is displayed: “The application could not be downloaded. There is not enough space in the device memory." At the same time, there is plenty of memory space - at least several gigabytes, while the size of the downloaded application is only a few megabytes. What to do, what to do?

This is what the error looks like when downloading the application:

Let’s say right away that there is no single solution to this problem, so let’s consider various options that can help cope with the problem.

Clearing the cache in the Google Play app

If you believe numerous reviews on the RuNet, the first thing the user needs to do is clear the cache for the Google Play application. It is primarily recommended to take this action in cases where there is a lot of space on the device, but the application is not installed.

Go to the settings of your phone or tablet.

Select the “Applications” section.

Find the Google Play Store or Google Play Services application (the name may vary depending on the firmware) and tap on it.

Here, click on the “Erase data” button, then “Clear cache”.

After that, try to install the application from the Market. This method should help you.

Make sure there is actually enough memory

In some cases, the available memory may not be correct. For example, you think there are a few more gigabytes of memory available, but in reality there are only a few megabytes available. To make sure you have free memory, go to settings and select the “Memory” section.

As you can see, in our case there is very little free memory and if you install applications several hundred megabytes in size, there really won’t be enough space.

Clear the contents of your device

If there is really not enough memory, you need to get rid of junk and unnecessary applications, as well as files.

To delete temporary files, cache data, etc., it is better to use a special application, for example, Clean Master. Download it, run it, then click on the “Trash” button.

When the system finds all unnecessary and temporary files, simply click on the “Clean” button.

This way you can free up quite a lot of space, but if it is still not enough, we recommend deleting unused applications that are usually always present.

In some cases, memory is occupied by various files, such as music, video files, photos, etc. They need to be deleted manually, preferably using a file manager. We use ES Explorer. Find the file or folder that you want to delete, tap on it, highlight it and click on the trash can icon.

Often there can be a lot of such files and deleting them frees up a huge amount of memory.

Transfer applications to a memory card

If you have a memory card and have the ability to transfer applications to it from the main memory, use this option so as not to delete applications.

To do this, go to settings, then to the “Applications” section. Here, select the desired application and click on the “Move to SD card” button (in our case, the button says “Go to SD card”).

Please note that system applications are not migrated. It is possible that your device does not have the ability to transfer applications to a memory card at all.

What else can help?

Tips from the web that may or may not help. If it is worth using them, it is only in the most extreme cases, when nothing helps at all. You can also try:

  • Uninstall updates for the Google Play application.
  • Delete cache and data not only for the Google Play application, but also for the Google Service Framework.
  • Clear Dalvik cache using .
  • Do . In this case, all data will be cleared and files will be deleted.

Microsoft's operating system contains small flaws. Some users have experienced that their computer has little virtual memory. What they are notified about by error. Before this, 95% of users are faced with the problem of the computer slowing down or programs not starting. This is the first sign that the machine does not have enough RAM. Problems are solved by performing simple manipulations. Even a beginner can perform the steps. But first, let's determine the cause of the problem.

A sufficient amount of virtual memory is required for normal operation of the system.

When a user works with a computer, the latter has to perform a number of operations and respond to requests and commands from the administrator. If the RAM is loaded, then processes are difficult to complete and the computer gradually freezes. Initially, the user sees that the program is not responding, and then an offer from . This is necessary to prevent data loss. Here it is important to learn to recognize the problem at the first manifestations.

An indicator that the RAM is heavily loaded is a decrease in system performance. In this case, the computer does not yet signal a failure. There are problems opening applications. This can be seen when the user launches a program, but it does not open. If there is no response from the program for a long time, this indicates that the computer’s physical memory is full and will need to be freed

What memory does Windows mean?

When the user saw a message about lack of free space, it initially meant RAM and virtual memory. The latter is controlled by the paging file. It is used as an addition to the operational one when there is not enough RAM.

Windows message about low RAM memory

Users who have no computer experience or are not technically savvy consider the error as insufficient hard drive space. This gives them justifiable bewilderment, because the hard drive holds a lot of GB, but there is not enough memory in the system. It turns out to be a dead end situation from which they cannot find a way out.

Reasons for the error

Before we begin to fix the problem, we will identify the common causes that could cause it to occur. Provoking factors include:

  • Opening 3-10 applications or programs at the same time (depending on the resources consumed) will result in the computer not having enough memory to process the command and an error will pop up. This is the most common case, and can be solved by shutting down unused applications;
  • limited amount of installed space, and it is not necessary that the computer is old, because some programs require 4 or more GB of RAM for correct operation, and the average 2GB is not enough;
  • the hard drive is overcrowded, respectively, the user does not have enough free storage space for the correct automatic configuration and operation of the paging file, that is, the virtual one does not fit;
  • changing the size of the paging file, perhaps the user previously played with optimization or used a third-party application for these purposes, that is, the size was forcibly changed to insufficient for correct operation, and the user did this;
  • the action of malicious or potentially dangerous programs, when their algorithm is based on the gradual consumption of free space, a constant leak occurs;
  • incorrect operation of the program, when launched, a message appears stating that there is not enough RAM.

In principle, these are, if not the only, then the main reasons against which the problem occurs. Now let's start exploring ways to solve the problem.

4 Ways to Fix Low Space Problem in Windows 7, 8 and 8.1

So, as we decided earlier, if there is not enough RAM on the computer, then we try to fix the problem by opening a small number of applications. This will protect the user from losing personal information and increase the performance of the machine. The user must pay attention and remember those programs that consume a lot of resources. If you don't run them at the same time, the problem will disappear.

It is not always possible to solve the problem this way. After all, people often use heavy programs at the same time for work, that is, the above measure is permissible only at home, it is not implemented in a work environment. Often users are faced with the fact that the message “There is not enough memory to complete the operation” pops up. By following the instructions below, you will learn how to solve the problem in a matter of minutes.

Error message due to insufficient RAM

So, liberation and subsequent developments are carried out in several ways; they may have to be combined, but this is already in the most severe cases.

Method number 1 - increasing the size of the paging file

If the problem does not appear systematically, then to fix it you need to clear the computer’s virtual memory. This is done through the Task Manager (close unused processes). Otherwise, the user will have to make adjustments to the size of the paging file. Sometimes the operating system itself does this.

Here I will immediately note that if you adjust the size of this file, the problem will disappear, but there is a high probability that the computer will slow down. The system processes the information that is available faster. If you increase the size of the swap file, the computer will read information from the hard drive, because that’s where it is located, hence the brakes. To make adjustments to the file size, hold down the keys marked in the picture:

Press the desired key combination

Or open the start menu, then go to the control panel, from there go to the system menu and select additional options:

Go to advanced options

After clicking, a dialog box will open in which we will go to the “Advanced” tab and open the performance parameters:

To adjust performance, click Settings

Here let's go to the additional settings tab, where we have virtual memory, and click on the change button:

At the very top, uncheck the automatic size detection and set the desired number yourself:

Advice! If you have two physical hard drives installed, then move this file to where the system is not installed.

If you do not know what parameters you need to specify regarding the size of the paging file in order to free up RAM on your computer, then I recommend proceeding from the following proportions: for standard work, set to 1.5 of the total amount of RAM, for games, at least 2.

Method No. 2 - installing an additional RAM module

The first method is recommended for those users who very rarely encounter a problem; if your RAM is constantly loaded, then it is best to install another stick in the system unit. Look at what is installed now: brand, type, volume and buy an identical one.

If the user does not have the means or there is a problem at the workplace, then you can try to clear the RAM on the computer through the Manager and do not run many programs at the same time. There is no other way.

Method No. 3 – checking the memory consumed by the program

When an error occurs while running a certain program, you need to check how much resources it is consuming from RAM. If there are too many of them, then a memory leak occurs. The problem can be fixed by a RAM cleaning program or by the user himself. In the second case, we do the following:

  1. We define the consuming application in the task manager: right-click on the bottom panel of the desktop and select the appropriate item;
  2. In the application, go to the processes tab;
  3. For ease of identification, arrange applications by consumption. To do this, click on the word “Memory”.

When you have found the required process, check it for errors; you may have to remove and reinstall the program.

If cleaning ram in this way causes difficulties, then we will resort to the Ccleaner program. If it is not installed, then download it from the offsite, go through a simple installation process and start working. Next, you need to select the “Cleaning” option, select the Windows tab. When the program finds errors or unnecessary files, click on “Clean” and you’re done.

Method number 4 - check memory using built-in tools

In rare cases, the system itself determines that the computer's memory is loaded and then the troubleshooting wizard opens. If the user sees such an agreement, then open the application and start troubleshooting

Important! Before you begin, save all data and close applications.

Click on the first option and wait for the wizard to complete. Everything happens automatically. Upon completion of the application, if it is discovered that the system memory is excessively consumed or incorrectly allocated, you will be prompted to contact the hardware supplier; there may be a technical malfunction of the memory board chip.

Here are the main ways to help fix the problem. Everything is quite simple and even beginners in computer science can cope with them.

The system does not have enough memory. Windows 7.

Sometimes when working on a computer you have to open several programs or applications at the same time. As a rule, the system starts to work slower. And you have to put up with this.

However, if programs stop responding, close without user intervention, the menu takes a long time to load, and the error “The system does not have enough memory” constantly appears, you need to take action.

First of all, decide whether you need so many running programs at the same time. After all, this is a large consumption of RAM.

If necessary, proceed to the next step. Check if there is a memory leak as a result of incorrect operation of one of the programs. If the error is caused by the same program, try updating it to the latest version, or using a similar program from another developer.

You can find the problematic program as follows:

Open the task manager (key combination Ctrl+Shift+Esc), go to the “Processes” tab and click on the “Memory” field. Applications will be ranked according to the amount of memory consumed. The programs that use the most RAM will appear at the top.

Follow the chain “Start” - “Control Panel” - “Administration”.

Open Event Viewer by double-clicking.

Then double click on "Application and Services Logs".

Select the application with the left mouse button and click “Open”.

Open all applications one by one and analyze possible errors.

If there are none, check your computer for memory problems.

To check the RAM in Windows 7, click “Start” – “Control Panel” – “Administrative Tools” – “Windows Memory Checker”.

Or press the Win+R key combination and enter mdsched in the command line.

In the window that opens, select “Reboot and check.” Before doing this, close all running programs and applications. Next, the computer automatically restarts and the scanning process starts.

It will take some time. At the end of the check, the computer starts and the result of the check will be displayed at the bottom of it.

If everything is in order here, and the computer also writes “The system does not have enough memory,” you need to increase the amount of virtual memory. For this:

“Start” – “Control Panel” – “System” – “Advanced system settings” – “Advanced” tab – “Performance” item – “Settings” button – “Advanced” tab – “Change” button.

Uncheck the “Automatically select paging file size” checkbox.

Select "Specify Size". Enter numbers in the "Original Size" and "Maximum Size" fields. Please note the line at the bottom of the “Recommended” table.

The system automatically determines the required size of the paging file. You can put your numbers based on the following considerations.

For normal system operation, it is enough to set the size of the paging file to 1.5 times larger than the size of the RAM. If you like to play large computer games, set the figure to 2.5 times more RAM.

To find out your amount of RAM (installed RAM), follow the chain:

“Start” – “Control Panel” – “System”.

The View basic information about your computer window opens.

Every now and then programs stop responding or close completely without any participation on your part? Tired of waiting for the menu to open in the application? Tortured messages: « Not enough memory "? Don't know what to do? Let's find a solution together.

The simplest, but, unfortunately, often unacceptable way to avoid the appearance messages « Not enough memory " means not running a large number of programs at the same time. Or, at a minimum, do not run applications that consume maximum volume random access memory .

You can also increase swap file size, which will increase stability operating system, but will negatively affect program speed.

To increase virtual memory , go to Start → Control Panel→ System → Advanced System Settings→ Advanced tab → Performance item – Settings button → Advanced tab → Change button. Uncheck the box " Automatically select paging file size" It is better to place the paging file on a different hard drive than where it is installed. Windows 7. Now let's talk about virtual memory volume . If you are not a natural gamer, then it is reasonable to set the size of the swap file to 1.5 times larger than the size random access memory. If games are everything to you, then this figure will increase to 2.5.

Not even advice, but a wish. If possible, purchase additional bar RAM .

Be sure to check if this is happening memory leak as a result of incorrect operation of one of the applications. If message « Not enough memory "is called by the same program, update it to the latest version or even switch to a similar software product from another developer.
In order to find the program that caused the crash, open Task Manager (keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and go to the Processes tab. Rank applications by the amount of memory used (click on the Memory field (Private Working Set).
Then go to Start → Control PanelAdministration→ double-click to open “ Event Viewer" Double click on " Application and service logs" View application errors (context menu→ Open ).

Check your computer for memory problems. Run memory tester Windows 7 . To do this, go to Start → Control PanelAdministrationWindows Memory Checker, or press the key combination Win+R and enter on the command line mdsched. In the window that opens, select when to start memory testing. After the computer has been restarted and memory diagnostics will start, by key F1 can be called additional testing settings. In order to start testing, press F10 .

As you can see, nothing complicated. Good luck!

Often, users, despite the power of their smartphones, are faced with the fact that when downloading the desired application they receive an error like: “Your phone does not have enough memory space.” Naturally, such a message will not please anyone, especially those who still have plenty of memory, but the phone stubbornly refuses to accept it. A similar problem, as a rule, appears while using the device; some are “lucky” to get an error in the first days of working with it. Well, let's figure out why there is not enough space on the phone and what to do in this case.

Not enough phone memory space: reasons

Often, when a message about low memory appears on the smartphone screen, users begin to blame the system for everything, without even checking whether there really is free space.

This leads to the first reason for lack of memory -you've used it all up.

Fortunately, checking how many megabytes or gigabytes are left free is very simple:

  • go to the “Settings” of your device (look for the gear in the application menu or notification shade);
  • find the item “Memory”;
  • Having opened it, we see how much memory we have in total, how much is free, what tasks it is used for);

Often, users receive a message that they say there is not enough memory on the phone, but at the same time there is enough for at least a couple of applications. As a rule, this happens when you want to install something from the Play Market, an application store for. It is famous for its unstable operation and abundance of errors, so such problems will sooner or later reach every admirer of the “green robot”. However, this system has not yet been studied by a single user, and almost every error has been identified.

So, reason number 2 -errors in services Google .

These are the two most common reasons why the out of memory error appears. Now let's move directly to solving the problem.

Let's make room. Instructions

In most cases, the problem is solved by simply deleting unnecessary applications, old songs and photos. Not every user has a smartphone with such storage capacity that it is possible to forget what is installed there. Therefore, if you are actively installing new games, regularly remove those that are no longer needed.

It's very easy to do this:

  • go to “Settings”;
  • find the “Applications” item;
  • choose the one that is no longer needed;
  • Click the “Delete” button.

As you can see, everything is very simple, so you can free up precious megabytes in a matter of minutes.

Transferring applications to a memory card

Another easy way to free up space on your phone's internal storage is to transfer installed applications and games to a memory card (microSD).

Please note that by default you will not be able to move every application. In addition, it is not possible to transfer pre-installed programs using standard means. To get more features you will have to get ROOT rights (superuser rights). Some devices do not have such a function at all.

Transferring applications is very simple:

  • open the settings menu;
  • go to installed applications;
  • choose what you need;
  • look for the “Go to SD card” or “Move” button;
  • A warning window will appear in which we need to confirm the transfer by clicking “OK.

If you suddenly need to transfer the application back to internal memory, then we do the same.

Removing files and garbage

For the vast majority of users, space on the phone is occupied by files that have not been needed for a long time or various garbage that remains after deleting applications. To get rid of all this, you will have to turn to third-party applications, since standard cleaning products are not enough.

You can install Clean Master from the application store. Once installed, launch it and follow a few simple steps:

  • on the main screen we see a diagram that shows the percentage of free space, as well as icons of available features;
  • First, go to the “Garbage” item (trash icon);
  • the utility will begin searching for temporary, unnecessary, and files that have been in the phone’s memory for a long time;
  • The search process will take some time, please wait;
  • as a result, the application will present us with a list of files that can be deleted without harm to the system;
  • if you don’t really want to figure it out, then just click “Clear”;
  • if you don’t mind deleting something else, then scroll through the list, checking the boxes next to unnecessary files.

So, the garbage has been cleared. If you still don't have enough phone memory or decide it's time to do some spring cleaning to free up more space, you can delete old photos. To do this, we will use a file manager.

Most modern smartphones have a built-in manager - look for it on one of the desktops. If you are the owner of an older smartphone model, you will have to download a third-party application. We recommend third-party utilities even if you have a file manager - they are much more functional. There are a lot of similar programs, but our advice is ES Explorer.

ES Explorer can be downloaded from Play Market, where to date it has collected millions of downloads and thousands of positive reviews. So:

  • launch the utility;
  • on the main screen there are icons for phone memory and micro-SD, as well as icons for other functions;
  • select the location where music, photos, videos, etc. are stored (internal storage or memory card);
  • find the desired folder;
  • let's proceed to removal;
  • you can delete the entire folder or individual files;
  • mark unnecessary items by holding your finger on the icon;
  • To delete, use the trash can icon at the top of the screen.

Thus, you can free up up to several gigabytes of memory simply by getting rid of unnecessary files.

Clearing the cache

It’s one thing when you really don’t have enough memory, it’s completely different when you have memory, but you can’t install anything. As already noted, users often encounter the error “Not enough space in phone memory” when trying to install an application from Google Play. Naturally, anyone will ask the question: “why can’t you install the program if there is plenty of memory?” There are many reasons for this error to appear, but the problem can be solved very simply - by clearing the Google Play application cache. We only need a few minutes of your time:

  • go to the “Settings” of the device;
  • further – the item “Applications”;
  • find the application here Google Play Market or ServicesGoogle Play(the name depends on the version of the operating system);
  • Going to the application, click on the “Clear (erase) data” button, then “Clear cache”.

In most cases, this method helps get rid of the obsessive low memory error. However, you should understand that it is only suitable for those users who have enough memory for the installation, but still have an error. If you really don't have enough memory, then only manual cleaning will help, as we discussed above.

So, the methods presented above did not help you? Don't rush to get upset! In the vastness of various forums, we found a couple of tips that helped a number of users. Maybe they will help you too.

Clear the application cache

Programs and games create a so-called cache during operation. It is a temporary storage that contains application files that are most often needed for work. In other words, with the help of a cache we can access any part of the application faster. However, over time, so many unnecessary files are stored here that there is simply no room left for other applications. So, cleaning is very simple:

  • go to “Settings”, then – “Applications”;
  • We go through all installed applications in order;
  • in the windows that open, look for the “Clear cache” item;
  • Cleaning usually takes a few seconds.

Pay special attention to applications that you use very often. Don't forget about browsers that love to upload various files to the cache.

This advice is for those who seem to have memory, but can’t install anything. This is often due to the latest updates that the Google Play Store application receives. That's why:

  • go to “Settings” – “Applications”;
  • we find Google Play Market or ServicesGoogle Play ;
  • Click the “Uninstall updates” button.
Let's reset the settings

Let's move on to a radical method, which is recommended to be used only if the above methods do not help. In rare cases, messages about low memory on the phone are caused by various errors in the system. Resetting the settings will help solve them.

Attention! A factory reset deletes all user data and returns the phone to the state in which it arrived from the factory. The function allows you to leave the memory card untouched, so transfer important data to it in advance.

Now to reset:

  • go to “Settings”, where we look for “Restore or reset” (the name may vary slightly);
  • We see the item “Reset phone settings”;
  • click and confirm the action;
  • We wait until the phone reboots.
Bottom line

The error about lack of memory on the phone is a fairly common problem, but it can be solved. In order not to experience constant problems with memory, we recommend using microSD, and of the highest class, which provides better operating speed. For users who are thinking about buying a new smartphone, we advise you to choose a model with at least 16 GB of internal storage, as application requests increase with each update. Even if today 32 GB seems like a lot to you, there is no reason to refuse such a volume.
