Little-known youth subcultures. Examples of modern youth subcultures

The hippie subculture is one of the oldest youth subcultures. The movement formed in San Francisco in the mid-60s. XX century as a protest against philistinism. The hippie ideology was based on philosophical teachings associated with the “Jesus movement.” They adhere to pacifist views, profess the idea of “non-resistance to evil through violence,” and are prone to creativity.

The main form of leisure time is parties with never-ending discussions, constant polemics and mandatory music playing. Parties are usually accompanied by the use of alcohol and drugs. Hippies often break away from home, traveling with virtually no means of support. Hippies are known to love flowers and walking barefoot. Part of the hippie ideology is “free love” with all the ensuing consequences. Hippie ideas are still alive.

Hippie. The literary, artistic and journalistic magazine "Hippieland" is a publication about hippies and for hippies, as well as for all those who are spiritually close to their culture and aesthetics. “Hippieland” is prose and poetry, graphics and photographs, philosophy and carts, hairy chronicles and fennecry, music - from rock to folk and the Middle Ages, Rainbow and Tolkien, hippie festivals and the “university”, “hippy legends” and “hitchhiking” blues" and much more.

Rastafarians are close in many respects to hippies. Rastafari (Rasta) is the religion of the universal Lord Jah (distorted “Jehovah”). Rastafarians are staunch pacifists, especially protesting against racism. Two features confirmed the worldwide nature of the Rasta movement - marijuana and reggae. Rastafarian life also provides for a healthy lifestyle, a ban on tobacco and alcohol, vegetarianism, and art classes. Their symbols are a red, yellow and green “Pacific” cap, pulled over dreadlocks (“dreadlocks”). Rastafarians can often be found in the company of hippies. Speaking about Russia, it should be noted that most young Rastafarians are simply fans of reggae music (this type of music originated in the 60s of the 20th century in Jamaica).

Punks. The punk movement began in the mid-1970s. XX centuries in England during a period of severe economic crisis. The main slogan of punks is “No future!” The philosophy of punks is the philosophy of the “lost generation”, simple to the limit: in a pigsty it is better to be pigs yourself. They finally decided that it was impossible to change the world for the better, and therefore life and career in the old sense of the word were put to rest. According to their political leanings, punks are considered anarchists. Hence their main symbol is the stylized letter "A".

The standard punk hairstyle is considered to be a “mohawk” - a strip of long, vertical hair on a cropped head. Punks prefer torn, dirty clothes. Punks are the most avid party-goers, great “experts” in drinking, drugs, fighting - apparently from idleness.

The punk subculture entered the USSR in 1979. One of the first punks were famous St. Petersburg rock musicians Andrei Panov (“Pig”) and Viktor Tsoi.

Gothic style originated in the late 70s. XX century on the wave of post-punk. The early goths took a lot from punks, they looked the same as punks, with the only difference being that the dominant color of clothing and hair was black (with accents of white, red or purple) and silver jewelry. At first, only fans of gothic musical groups were called goths. Gradually, the Goths acquired their own lifestyle, value hierarchy and mentality.

The modern Gothic image is quite complex and varied, it includes clothes, shoes, jewelry, accessories, make-up, and hairstyle. Gothic aesthetics are extremely eclectic in their range of symbols, using Egyptian as well as Christian and Celtic symbols. Occult symbolism is quite widely represented - pentagrams, eight-pointed stars (symbols of chaos), symbols of death.

The Goths developed their own original style of makeup and manicure. Using makeup or powder, the face is given a deathly pale shade, black eyeliner is applied, and lips and nails can also be tinted black. Black is the dominant color, but other colors are acceptable.

Emo - short for "emotional" - is a term for a specific type of hardcore music based on the crushing strong emotions in the vocalist's voice and the melodic but sometimes chaotic musical component. Squealing, crying, moaning, whispering, breaking into a scream are the distinctive features of this style.

Today this style of music is divided into: emocore, emo-rock, cyber-emo, punk-emo, emo-violence, screamo, French-emocore hardcore San Diego, etc. Fans of emo music, identified as a special subculture, are called emo kids . The concept of emo is very common among modern youth. In addition to bright outfits, hair and makeup, these guys have other ways to express themselves. Through music and heightened emotions about everything that happens in their lives.

Majors are the Soviet golden youth of the period of “developed socialism”. Socially they are close to yuppies and kogyars. Appeared in the late 1970s. The major is not interested in ordinary everyday problems, since all such problems have been solved for him by his parents. He is not short of pocket money. He wears scarce clothes and shoes, can drive his own car (usually owned by one of his parents), and owns foreign-made audio and video equipment. He can spend time at his parents' official dacha, if they are entitled to one according to their rank. Some have the opportunity to travel abroad, including to capitalist states, and live there with their parents. Among the majors, the position of parents in society and the associated prospects for their own life and career are assessed. However, it is also appreciated high level performance at school and university. The attitude towards peers from “simple” families is patronizing, condescending or contemptuous, although more often it is indifferent. The future of the major is cloudless and does not cause any worries.

Yuppies are a youth subculture whose representatives lead an active business lifestyle as an urban professional. Yuppies have well-paid jobs, prefer business casual clothing, follow fashion, and visit fitness centers. The main criterion for belonging to a “yuppie” is success. A self-respecting yuppie wears a formal suit (preferably a three-piece), woolen and very expensive, does not wear rings on his fingers and does not fasten his tie with a pin with a ruby - this is bad taste. The most he can afford is cufflinks with diamond dust or an antique chronometer “with rehearsal”. But even this is not recommended.

Hackers are computer users and programmers who adhere to an active, offensive line of behavior in the network space. The targets of hackers' attacks are other people's websites and servers, which they hack and disable. In 1988, the world first experienced the power of one of the most effective hacking tools - a computer virus.

Some experts predict the emergence of a web mafia that will engage in cyber espionage and cyber terrorism. At the same time, hackers as such are opposed to corporatism; they value freedom and self-will above all else.

Hackers are mainly university students and high school students with a focus on physics and mathematics. It is difficult to determine the exact number of hackers, because they communicate primarily through computer networks. In addition, not all hackers recognize themselves as a kind of community with their own values, norms, and specific style.

Extreme people are those who love life like no other, but are ready to take risks again and again for the sake of an unforgettable feeling of freedom.

Some modern sports that have been promoted in the world since the 50s. XX century, gradually became commonly called extreme. These sports include skateboarding, snowboarding, skydiving, rock climbing, etc. Extreme sports are emerging every day. They are characterized by high degree dangers to the life and health of the athlete, a large number of acrobatic stunts, high levels of adrenaline that are released by the athlete during sports.

Parkour is an extreme sport based on performing dangerous stunts without any insurance. This includes climbing buildings and jumping from great heights. But the tracers themselves consider their activity not so much a sport as a lifestyle and philosophy. The name parkour comes from equestrian sport and is translated from French as “obstacle course.” And the word “tracing” comes from the French traceur - a person who breaks new paths. Parkour slogan: “There are no boundaries, only obstacles.” The founder of parkour is David Belle.

Roller skaters are called roller skaters. They prefer sportswear in bright colors; They can also be identified by multi-colored patches on their knees. They not only roller skate, but tumble and perform incredible pirouettes and somersaults. Roller skaters love to compete. Single roller skaters appeared in Russia in the early 90s.

Bikers. The first bikers were called “Harleyers” - after the famous brand of motorcycle “Harley-Davidson”. These motorcycles received true recognition in the 30s. XX century in USA. In the 40s The ranks of bikers were replenished by veterans of the Second World War.

The domestic subculture of bikers, like hippies, has experienced at least two upsurges: one in the late 70s - early 80s, the other in the 90s. Russian bikers, as far as one can judge, are law-abiding and conformist in to a greater extent than the American Hells Angels. The biker's favorite drink is beer. They dress, as befits rock lovers, in jeans, black T-shirts, a leather vest or jacket. Bikers are often completely covered in tattoos. Bikers can be found in large numbers at the annual bike show, and on the streets only at night, when there is “freedom of movement.” Hence the name of the parties - “Angels of the Night”, “Night Wolves”.

Roleplayers. Role-playing games are a noticeable phenomenon in modern youth subculture. Without much opportunity to influence the rapidly changing real world, many young people want to construct a fictional world - and believe in it.

Roleplayers are an informal community of people who play various role-playing games, primarily live-action role-playing games. Related to role-playing are the movements of historical reenactors, Tolkienists, as well as hardball and airsoft players. The role-playing movement is distinguished as a subculture, which is characterized by its own jargon, its own music, its own literature and other characteristic elements of a single culture.

The role-playing movement in Russia and the USSR arose in the 80s. on the basis of Science Fiction Lovers Clubs. In addition to role-playing games, roleplayers gather for Role-playing Conventions - short-term meetings dedicated to informing players about the games of the next season, discussing past games, and informal communication. The conventions host historical fencing tournaments, photo and art exhibitions, concerts by game song singers, theatrical performances, and video screenings. Role-playing games are especially closely associated with Tolkienists. In youth culture of the 90s. The Tolkien movement and the Tolkien subculture associated with it and generated by it appeared. The famous English philologist and writer John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (in the slang of Tolkienists - Professor) is the author of “The Lord of the Rings”, “The Silmarillion” and other works belonging to the genre of “fantasy” - fairy-tale fiction.

Role play is close to improvised theatrical production. Props are being prepared (safe weapons, clothing corresponding to Tolkien’s conventional medieval times). The masters - the directors of the game - assign roles, the players pass something like an exam on their knowledge of Tolkien's fantasy world and the background of their character, and a storyline is outlined.

In the early 80s. Tolkienists appeared in the USSR, primarily in Moscow and Leningrad. They hold “voles”, conventions, and role-playing games dedicated to Tolkien’s universe. Since the 1990s are carried out all-Russian games and several regional ones - the annual Hobbit Games are very popular.

The most famous convention of roleplayers in Russia is Zilantkon (from the Tatar Zilant - the mythical dragon depicted on the coat of arms of the city of Kazan), held annually in November in Kazan.

Russian Tolkienists have a rich and varied folklore, which is regularly updated through the efforts of members of the subculture. This includes theme songs, jokes, and fan fiction that have become popular enough to be retold orally. In addition to coming up with jokes and writing songs and fan fiction, many Tolkienists devote time and attention to drawing fan art or creating objects of “everyday culture of Middle-earth.” In some groups, over time, canons of the “culture of Middle-earth” are established, complementing those described by Tolkien.

Tolkienists usually stand out from the crowd with their exotic outfits. Many wear cloaks, some wear medieval outfits. Hairatniks (ribbons around the head that catch the hair) are very popular. The range is from simple to woven from threads with beads. An almost obligatory attribute - a sword - wooden or textolite - is not an empty decoration.

Tolkienists often meet at concerts. Concerts are organized by Tolkien singers - minstrels. As a rule, they perform their own songs, accompanying themselves on guitars. Sometimes you come across studio recordings. The themes of the songs, as well as the interests of the performers, are varied. Some of them are associated with literary works, others with historical events, and others touch upon pressing topics.

Historical reconstruction is a fairly young form of youth leisure. It appeared in Russia in the early 90s. and immediately became widespread among people interested in history, the romantic spirit of the Middle Ages and art. There are many areas in historical reconstruction, including sports. There are several federations of historical fencing in our country.

Sports tournaments are held regularly. Festivals and mass productions of battles are held mainly by historical fencing and reconstruction clubs with the support of the administration of the regions and cities where the event is held. There are also events of national importance (for example, the reconstruction of the Battle of Kulikovo or the Battle of Borodino in Russia or the reconstruction of the Battle of Grunwald abroad).

Historical reconstruction is a movement that aims to scientific purposes and using the method of role-playing and scientific experimentation to solve problems and gain a deeper understanding of the issue under study.

Restoration of the appearance and design of an object, theoretical or practical, based on its surviving fragments, remains, and available historical information about it, using modern methods historical science.

Graffiti. The word graffiti is Italian, and is translated into Russian as “scratched.” Almost anything fits this definition, starting with rock paintings, but this term is usually used to designate drawings on the walls of houses, in the subway - using cans of paint, and occasionally - markers, mostly in the same style. The so-called street artists are called writers, graffitters or graffers.

Graffiti first appeared in America in the late sixties as part of street culture. It all started with ordinary tags. Tag - literally translated as “mark”. In the New York subway, they left these tags to indicate their presence here. Today the same thing is happening in the Moscow metro, but real graffitters strongly condemn this.

From America, this art form began to spread everywhere. Thus, culture came out of the ground and onto the streets. Now tags, song lines, political slogans, slogans and other inscriptions began to appear in huge numbers on the streets of big cities...

Writers tried to develop their skills and united in various groups. They also appeared and began to develop different styles, a whole layer of society appeared with its own unwritten rules, laws, and combat units. We can say that this is how a subculture was formed.

Just like any art, grafflers have their own personal writing styles. Writers also draw different characters - both their own and those from cartoons and comics.

· Hipsters

Hipsters, hipsters (indie kids) is a term that appeared in the United States in the 1940s, derived from the slang “to be hip,” which roughly translates as “to be in the know” (hence the “hippie”). This word originally meant a representative of a special subculture formed among fans of jazz music; in our time it is usually used in the sense of “wealthy urban youth interested in elite foreign culture and art, fashion, alternative music and indie rock, arthouse cinema, modern literature, etc.”

Ideology:

Some call hipsters “anti-capitalists,” liberals with a socialist philosophy. The representatives of this subculture themselves do not openly promote anything; they are in every possible way for the external and internal freedom of a person, and therefore support movements for women’s and gay rights. Hipsters, as a rule, do not belong to any religious denomination; most often they are agnostics or atheists.

Origin:

Hipsters are the most controversial subculture in terminology. There is still fierce debate about its appearance. It is usually dated to the late forties. Judging by the composition of the people drawn into this subculture, we can say with confidence: there were neither racial boundaries nor social restrictions for hipsterism.

Burroughs in “Junkie” wrote: “The hipster is the one who understands and speaks jive, who knows the trick, who has it and who has it.”

It is now known for certain that this subculture originated in New York. Moreover, just like the original concept, it is also modern.

A hipster listens only to trendy music. In the 40s he was drawn to jazz, in the 60s - to psychedelic rock. Hipsters of the 90s were the first to know what trip-hop was. The modern hipster listens to Americans Clap Hands Say Yeah and Arcade Fire, etc. Some people are seriously interested in collecting records and CDs of certain styles: jazz, noise or indie rock.

Attributes:

Skinny jeans.

T-shirt with print. The T-shirt usually features funny phrases, animals, sneakers, cars, chairs, moleskins, lomographs and London.

Glasses with thick plastic frames. They often have glasses without diopters.

Lomograph.

iPod/iPhone/MacBook.

Football hooligans

Football hooligans are representatives of one of the youth subcultures, characterized by the fact that they consider belonging to the category of football fans of a certain team (club) as a symbol of their association into certain groups within the subculture. Like any other subculture, football fanaticism has certain features that characterize it: “professional” slang, certain fashions in clothing, behavioral stereotypes, hierarchical societies, opposing oneself to “opponents,” etc.

Origin:

Football hooliganism in the form in which it exists on currently, began to emerge in Great Britain in the late 1950s.

In Russia, the process of the emergence of a new subculture is directly related to the beginning of the away activities of a certain part of fans of Soviet clubs. Fans of Spartak were the first to attend away games of their club in the early 1970s; they were soon joined by fans of other Moscow teams, as well as fans of Dynamo Kyiv and Zenit Leningrad.

Currently:

Currently, Russian “near-football” can be called an established social phenomenon with pronounced features of the English style of supporting the club both at home and away matches. Almost all clubs of the Russian national football championship, right down to the teams of the second league, have their own gangs (in slang - “firms”). Among Russian hooligans, the ideas of Russian nationalism are very strong.

It is worth distinguishing between football hooligans and an organization such as ultras. Ultras are highly organized fans of a particular club. The Ultras group is, as a rule, an officially registered structure that unites from ten to several thousand of the most active fans engaged in all kinds of information promotion and support for their team - promotional attributes, popularization of their movement, distribution and sale of tickets, organization of special shows in the stands, organizing trips to away matches of your favorite team.

Signs:

· Lack of paraphernalia typical for ordinary fans (T-shirts, club-colored scarves and pipes).

· Jackets, T-shirts, polos, sweaters from Lonsdale, Stone Island, Burberry, Fred Perry, Lacoste, Ben Sherman and more.

· White sneakers with Velcro and straight soles.

· Rectangular shoulder bags pulled higher towards the back or kangaroo handbags worn over the shoulder and pulled closer to the neck.

Football hooligans have their own style and their own brands, their own pubs, musical groups, their own feature films.

Some hooligan slang words:

Action is an operation carried out by a group of fans against another

Argument - stone, bottle, stick, iron buckle, etc.

Bamner is a banner (usually with the emblem of a club or fan group) placed by fans in the stands during a match. - As a rule, contains a concise, relevant statement that is directly related to the topic of the match

Departure - a trip of fans to another city/region/country for a match of their team

To endure - to win a fight with fans of another team

Glumam - active support of the team in the stands

Demrby (English Derby) -- 1. a meeting of two teams from the same city; 2. a meeting between two teams at the top of the standings

Zaryamd - chant

Lefty - fans who are not related to official fan associations

Myamchik - football match

Promvody - attack during departure of one fan group to another

Romza - scarf with club attributes

Scamut - scout

Trophy - a removed scarf, a taken away yarn or flag

Rastafarians

Rastafarians in the world are traditionally called followers of Rastafarianism.

Rastafarianism is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion that arose in Christian culture in Jamaica in the 1930s based on a mixture of Christianity, local Caribbean beliefs, the beliefs of blacks - descendants of slaves from West Africa and the teachings of a number of religious and social preachers (primarily Marcus Garvey ), which led to the formation of the reggae music style in the 1960s.

The emergence of Rastafarianism in Russia:

In Russia, this youth subculture was formed in the post-Soviet space in the early 1990s. At the same time, its representatives are not true adherents of the original religious and political doctrine of African superiority, but consider themselves to be part of this group primarily based on the use of marijuana and hashish. Many people listen to Bob Marley and reggae music in general, use the green-yellow-red color combination for identification (for example, in clothing), and some wear dreadlocks.

One of the first representatives of the Rastafarian movement in Russia is the reggae music group "Jah Division", which appeared in 1989.

Now in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities there are quite large Rastafarian communities that conduct cultural events(usually concerts or festivals), support websites, publish media materials. Almost all Russian reggae groups consider themselves Rastafarian - at least they use characteristic symbols and revere Bob Marley.

Ideology:

Usually Rastafarians advocate the legalization of marijuana, which is reflected in songs and paraphernalia.

Rastafarians have a positive attitude towards Jah and a negative attitude towards the so-called “Babylon” as a pragmatic socio-political system based on Western material culture.

Many Rastafarians also have a negative attitude towards taking opiates, amphetamines and alcohol, as well as a negative attitude towards taking psychedelics, which does not at all make them related to the hippie subculture, as is commonly believed, but on the contrary, repels them.

o Ultra-right. NS skinheads

Far-right, extreme right, radical right - a term for members of the extreme right political views. IN modern world used primarily to refer to racial supremacists, neo-fascists, neo-Nazis and ultranationalists.

NS skinheads (Nazi skinheads or National Socialist skinheads) are a youth far-right subculture, whose representatives adhere to National Socialist ideology, one of the directions of the skinhead subculture. The activities of NS skinheads are usually extremist in nature.

Origin:

Initially, the skinhead subculture arose in Great Britain in the late 60s of the 20th century. It was apolitical in nature and was closely associated with the English subculture of this period - mods, as well as with black Jamaican emigrant youth and the popular music of that time among them - reggae and, to a lesser extent, ska.

NS skinheads appeared towards the end of 1982, as a result of political agitation by the leader of the rock band Skrewdriver (which later became a cult for NS skinheads). Then it was first borrowed Celtic cross, as a symbol of their movement, and formed the image of NS skinheads (in the image of the crusaders) - soldiers of the Holy Racial War, who fights against - all non-Aryans, mainly numerous immigrants from third world countries, as well as homosexuals, drug addicts and the leftist youth.

At the turn of the 1990s, after the collapse of the USSR, the NS skinhead subculture penetrated into Russia.

Ideology

NS skinheads position themselves as a national liberation movement and fight for the ideas of superiority of the white, Aryan race, while striving for racial separatism.

NS skinheads are extreme racists, anti-Semites and xenophobes, opponents of illegal immigration, mixed marriages and sexual deviations, especially homosexuality.

NS skinheads consider themselves defenders of the interests of the working class, in some cases citing the fact that newcomers take jobs

A special cult among NS skinheads exists around the personality of Hitler and some other leaders of the Nazi movement.

Many NS skinheads are agnostics or even atheists. In Russia, there are groups of NS skinheads who profess Orthodoxy, while the rest are extreme opponents of Christianity and Orthodoxy in particular, since Jesus Christ is a Jew, and Christianity arose in the context of the messianic movements of Judaism.

As participants in right-wing radical movements, NS skinheads are supporters of extreme measures using violence, which is usually interpreted as extremism. Many of them are close to the idea of revolution, that is, a coup d'etat with the aim of establishing a national socialist regime.

Appearance:

o Shaved head or very short haircut

o Lonsdale and Thor Steinar brand clothing

o Heavy high boots (Dr. Martens, Grinders, Steels, Camelot)

o Light blue jeans (Levi's, Wrangler) or boiled jeans

o White T-shirts, black or brown shirts, polos and T-shirts (Fred Perry, Ben Sherman)

· Hip-hop. Rappers

Hip hop is a cultural movement that originated among the working class of New York. November 12, 1974. DJ Afrika Bambaataa was the first to define the five pillars of hip-hop culture: emming, DJing, breaking, graffiti, and knowledge (a certain philosophy). Other elements include beatboxing, hip-hop fashion and slang.

Origin:

Originating in the South Bronx, hip-hop became part of youth culture in many countries around the world in the 1980s. Since the late 1990s, from a street underground with a strong social orientation, hip-hop has gradually become part of music industry, and by the middle of the first decade this century the subculture has become “fashionable”, “mainstream”. However, despite this, many figures within hip-hop still continue its “main line” - protest against inequality and injustice, opposition to those in power.

Subculture aesthetics:

Despite the hip-hop fashion changing every year, in general it has a number of characteristic features. Clothes are usually loose, sporty: sneakers and baseball caps (usually with straight peaks) from well-known brands (e.g. KIX, New Era, Joker, Tribal, Reebok, Roca Wear, FUBU, Wu-Wear, Sean John, AKADEMIKS , ECKO, Nike, Adidas) T-shirts and basketball jerseys, jackets and hoodies, sock-like hats pulled down over the eyes, baggy pants. Hairstyles are short, although short dreadlocks are also popular. Massive jewelry (chains, medallions, keychains) is popular among rappers themselves, but wearing jewelry is more common among African Americans.

As examples, I looked at the most popular, in my opinion, youth subcultures in Russia today. But along with them, there are many other diverse youth subcultures and movements.

Instructions

One of the oldest, but still popular subcultures is hippies. They preach freedom in all forms (from internal freedom to free love), pacifism, strive for independence, creative realization. They look bright in appearance, wear jeans, loose T-shirts, and vests. Both women and men wear long hair, bright baubles on the hands. They can leave home and travel with almost no means of support; in the summer they live in tent cities.

Similar to hippies and close to them in philosophy are Rastafarians or Rastafarians. Modern Rastafarians, especially in Russia, do not live according to the principles that the Rastafarians originally promoted. They just listen to reggae music, love Bob Marley, have dreadlocks, wear a red, yellow and green hat and have a negative attitude towards subservient material values Western culture.

Emo culture is popular among younger people. The name of the culture is derived from the word “emotional” and reflects the emotionality of the adherents of this movement. Adherents of the subculture are called emokids. They have a bright appearance: long side bangs, heavily lined eyes, piercings, black and pink clothes, black nail polish, a lot of bracelets and badges. They strive for self-expression, but are often perceived as vulnerable, depressed, whiny teenagers. It is also believed that these guys are prone to suicidal behavior.

Young people who love life and at the same time constantly risk it because of the pleasure they receive are called extreme people. This may include various directions extreme sports: roller skaters, parkour or tracers, skateboarders, etc. Even graffiti artists who risk being caught can also be classified in this group. Their clothing style is usually sporty, free, and may resemble that of a rapper.

The philosophy is close to one rather old subculture - punks. Their slogan that there is no future determined their position: nothing can be corrected, and therefore life can be given up. It won’t be difficult to recognize a punk in a crowd - a mohawk on a cropped head, torn and dirty clothes. They often gather for parties with huge amounts of alcohol, drugs and fights. Initially, the movement was born out of a love for punk music.

The Goths have quite a lot in common with punks. At first this one developed due to a passion for gothic music, but then its own appeared. They perceive themselves as opponents of bad taste, diversity and mass consciousness, and therefore choose black in clothing, the symbolism of death as a reminder of life, and going to the cemetery with friends. Outwardly, Satanists are often confused with them, who are dangerous to society because they support violence against people and sacrifices.

Another subculture is considered dangerous to society - skinheads. Already from their name you can understand that the feature is a shaved head. Preaching a cult strong personality, ideas of National Socialism and anti-Semitism. They hate adherents of other “bright” subcultures: emo, hippies, majors, as well as people of non-European type, and beat them. Most often, the head of such a youth group is a mature person with pro-fascist views.

Another similar group, but without an ideology as such, is. Usually these are guys from the outskirts of the city, engaged in petty robberies, thefts, hooliganism, etc. These are disadvantaged representatives of modern youth who use slang words, profanity in their speech, and imitate people who served sentences in prison. The appearance is usually unkempt: tracksuit, black leather jacket, cap. They are aggressive towards people oriented towards Western principles of life.

The role-playing movement has become a fairly new phenomenon in modern culture. These are young people who gather in large groups and play role-playing games. The philosophy is quite simple to explain: if you cannot change the real world, invent your own, believe in it and change it. These also include Tolkienists, guys participating in historical reconstructions, to some extent anime fans, even Barbie girls. Anyone who plays a character, even if not all the time, can be classified as roleplayers.

Another subculture that older people become adherents of is bikers. Unlike ordinary motorcyclists, for bikers their bike is part of their life. Fans of rock, beer and motorcycles are always recognizable in the crowd: leather jackets, jeans or leather pants, bandanas, tattoos. Large groups they gather at festivals and on night roads.

Video on the topic

note

Not every youth association can be considered a subculture. So, they are still arguing whether hipsters are considered a subculture or are they just people who follow fashion trends. The issue with hackers and gamers who lead a certain lifestyle and follow certain principles, but do not unite in groups in real, not computer life, has not been fully resolved.

Just 30 years ago in our country everything was the same - furniture, music, and even the people themselves. But even then, deep underground, there were subcultures whose adherents identified themselves as antagonists to the existing system. This contradiction was manifested in the style of behavior, in clothing, in music and in special slang. So, one after another, hippies, metalheads, punks, rappers, goths, emo appeared - in a word, informals. In parallel with the musical subcultures, criminal and gop culture developed, which over time appropriated chanson music, which became their trademark.

So, who should you classify yourself as? You wear your hair long, are into henna painting, and listen to Cher, Sonny and the Rolling Stones. In your wardrobe exclusively with ethnic motifs or flared shirts, you are hung from head to toe with baubles, beads made of sandalwood, you like to hitchhike with a guitar on your back and without in your pocket. If your motto in life is “Make love, not war,” then you are a typical hippie.

If you still have long hair, a guitar behind your back and jeans, but wear sweatshirts and T-shirts, preferably black, like “Metallica”. On your wrists are wristbands with metal spikes (antigopes), large claw-type rings, and on your feet are Cossacks from Camelot, Grinders or Martins. You love driving fast, and generally don’t part with your Harley, listen to “Aria”, “Master” and “Corrosion of Metal”. So you are a metalhead.

Still the same long hair, but black, lips painted with lipstick of the same color? Do you wear a long black coat or dress with a corset, spend your leisure time exclusively in the local cemetery, and wake up to the wonderful music of Cradle of Filth or Lacrimosa? Then you are goth.

Do you like black melodies interspersed with recitative? Are your idols people from Harlem who wear pants that they inherited from their older brothers and therefore constantly slide down to their knees when walking, wide T-shirts and hats that slide down onto their foreheads? You are hung with gold chains and finger-thick rings, on which your name is written in large letters. Did you grow up listening to Decl's songs? IN free time do you write “2Pac is alive” on fences and take part in battles, dancing bottom or top breakdance? So you are definitely a rapper.

Every day you are in the area where the boys from the neighboring mikrash pestered you. From the radio that you borrowed from the friend, you can hear the sweet sounds of songs by Katya Ogonyok or Mikhail Krug. You wear stylish sweatpants from the local market and Abibas sneakers, carry a kapar and a purse and spit very accurately through the gap in your teeth, you have a blue tattoo that you got in the army or in prison.
