Who will lead the new wave? What surprised the “new wave” competition in Sochi

This week the New Wave competition is taking place in Sochi, moving here from Jurmala. This is the festival’s 15th anniversary year, and the second year on a new site.

Let me remind you: the founding organizers of the festival decided to move to Sochi after the Latvian authorities banned some artists from Russia from entering the country.

Last year, several Russian competitions and festivals left Jurmala in protest, including the largest one, “New Wave”.

“As for Jurmala, there is a good aftertaste. In principle, in order to understand who you lived with, you need to break up,” said the general producer of the competition, Igor Krutoy. “We have nothing negative, and we have maintained our friendship with Raymond Pauls, and there is nothing that They scolded us. There they tried to pretend that they didn’t care: there was a “Volna”, there was not a “Volna”, but we still have good memories.

At the same time, the other founding father of the New Wave, Raymond Pauls, did not come to Sochi. According to Krutoy, Pauls has not been on the jury of the competition in Jurmala in recent years.

“What’s the point of inviting if you get a negative answer? It’s better to save face. And I think he wouldn’t go,” said Igor Krutoy. “This doesn’t mean that the relationship has deteriorated. Because I’m here alone... Well, yes. I I didn’t invite him."

This year, his constant muse, Alla Pugacheva, did not come to the competition (usually she also presented her own, separate prize). The prima donna spent the summer in Jurmala, however, she never appeared at the Laima Vaikule festival (a kind of replacement for the New Wave).

“She wanted them to miss her and come next year. She called me on my birthday, congratulated me and said, let them miss the muse a little, and come next year,” said Krutoy.

When journalists tried to find out who would be the muse of the “New Wave” in 2016, Krutoy replied: “The muse is on vacation.”

Who came to Sochi

However, this year there were enough “stars” in Sochi - both Russian and foreign: Dmitry Hvorostovsky, Sting, Ricky Martin, Lara Fabian, Anna Netrebko came. Probably all the most famous Russian performers performed.

On the closing day of the competition, in honor of its 15th anniversary, the Avenue of Stars of the “New Wave” was opened on the pedestrian Navaginskaya street in the center of the resort.

Another symbol of the fact that Sochi has become the home of the “New Wave” was the laying of a bas-relief cast in bronze near the Sea Port. It was sculpted by all the finalists of 2016 under the direction of sculptor Vyacheslav Zvonov, together with the mayor of Sochi and Philip Kirkorov.

The competition is gradually acquiring new traditions. Of course, the atmosphere here is completely different - not the same as in quiet, relaxed Jurmala, where regular participants felt like they were at home, or rather, at their dacha (and many of them actually have houses and apartments in Jurmala).

In Sochi, everything is much larger, richer, brighter, including an active social life: creative evenings, fashion shows and after-parties - you won’t be able to relax like in Jurmala.

In addition, there are many more journalists at the Black Sea resort, noticing every step of the star guests. And how naked Shnur went out onto the balcony, and how Tatyana Navka brought her youngest daughter into the world for the first time, and that Kristina Orbakaite and Irina Allegrova had almost identical dresses, and that it is still unclear what gender the child will be born to Ksenia Sobchak and Maxim Vitorgan (Lyudmila Narusova I would like twins).

Well, the main characters of the competition were its participants - 16 young finalists from 12 countries, who were selected from almost 10 thousand contestants.

According to the results of three competition days, the Italian Walter Ricci and the Croatian performer Dino received the most points from the experts - 425 each. Moreover, Galina Bezruk (Ukraine) was in the lead for the first two days.

The pregnant beauty with a strong voice surprised both the audience and the judges. The gorgeous performance of the song Freedom seemed to leave no one indifferent - it was so artistically, freely and precisely sung. The audience greeted her with applause, all the judges gave her the highest scores.

But according to the results of all the competition days, the Ukrainian lost only one (!) point to the winners. The top five also included Georgian singer Giorgi Nadibaidze and performer from Kyrgyzstan Nursultan Azykbaev. Group N.E.V.A. from Yekaterinburg was the best among the Russians, they had 411 points, the same as the group Brio Sonores (Moldova).

The annual international competition of young popular music performers “New Wave” this year, as in the past, brought together participants, stars and all the guests of the event in the glorious city of Sochi for the 15th time. A strict jury selected 16 young finalists from 12 countries among more than 10,000 competition participants. Of course, Russian stars could not miss such a high-profile event and arrived in Sochi in what they considered to be their best outfits. Yes, some celebrities' dresses and suits were stunning, but there were also some flops.

Lolita Milyavskaya chose a bright boho-style outfit that went perfectly with her dark hair. However, for some reason the singer decided to complement it... with slates - not the best decision.

But Jasmine, on the contrary, preferred a monochrome look in dark colors - the star wore a laconic top with a trendy metallic skirt.

Yana Rudkovskaya abandoned her favorite mini-dresses and wore a light, floor-length outfit, which, as critics noted, looked very fresh and relevant.

Angelica Varum, like Jasmine, preferred the “black top-shiny bottom” style, which also looked quite interesting (though we would advise the singer to get rid of the controversial hat).

But Larisa Dolina ignored all the current trends and, apparently, solved the issue of dressing for the opening ceremony with the help of a piece of green satin.

Ani Lorak, like some other heroines in our selection, also decided to try on an image that was unusual for her, choosing a rather closed dress instead of a provocative outfit. White color, elegant silhouette and a strange-looking hem, evoking thoughts that something happened to Ani on the way to the ceremony.

Natasha Koroleva also preferred a closed outfit, supporting the bright print with rich berry lipstick.

A controversial image was demonstrated by Taisiya Povaliy - the singer appeared at the ceremony in a white dress with a strange gold print, desperately reminiscent of the wallpaper fashionable in the 2000s, and which looked no less strange in the bodice area.

Lyubov Uspenskaya did not experiment and wore an evening lace dress. The only question was that the length of the nude lining was not the best.

Everyone traditionally expected a spectacular entrance from Philip Kirkorov, and the singer did not let his fans down, this time without going overboard with decorative elements.

But Lera Kudryavtseva, on the contrary, upset fans by again wearing a pink dress-cake in the style of “Barbie”

Tatyana Navka once again emphasized that she follows fashion trends - the star wore a current lingerie-style dress and modest sandals. The look was completed with a glittery pompom clutch and a lightweight cardigan cape.

Galina Bezruk (Ukraine)

Another contestant from Ukraine is actress and singer Galina Bezruk. She began her television career with the show “The Voice of Ukraine,” in which she reached the finals under the leadership of Alexander Ponomarev. In 2014, Galina received a role in the comedy series “The Last Muscovite.” On the set, the artist met her future husband, ironically, Russian artist Artem Alekseev. The couple got married in August of this year. Now Galina lives and works in Russia - at the Moscow Musical Theater, but does not forget her native Ukraine. Estonia will be represented at New Wave 2016 by a musician from Tallinn, Kristjan Kasearu. Alisa Danelia (Georgia)

Contestant from Georgia Alisa Danelia has been performing on stage since childhood. Having moved from her native Batumi to Moscow, she became a soloist in the Domisolka children's musical theater.

Last year, Alisa decided to try her hand at the “Main Stage” music competition, and this year she decided to try her hand at the “New Wave”.

The second representative of Georgia at “New Wave 2016” is Giorgi Nadibaidze. This year the duet “Saryn”, whose members are 21-year-old Berik Berdekeyev and 20-year-old Altynai Tulembetova, was entrusted with representing Kazakhstan this year. The musicians have been following the results of the “New Wave” since 2007 and, by the way, it was in 2007 that Kazakhstan was represented by the group Rin’Go, one of whose soloists, Daniyar Otegen, is the producer of the duet.

We know that the “New Wave” is 15 years old this year: 15 years ago we were little and were keen on studying letters, numbers and plasticine!.. “New Wave” is already a whole story, which is many years old, which every year gives new bright names and songs, opens up new opportunities for the contestants.

Nursultan Azykbaev (Kyrgyzstan)

21-year-old Nursultan Azykbaev will represent Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyzstan) at the “New Wave”, this will be the musician’s debut performance at a competition of this level. My minimum life program for the next five years is this: get into the top three finalists of “New Wave 2016”, record a new album, perform on the stage of a large concert arena in any country and get married.

Brio Sonores (Moldova)

Last year, Moldova (Moldova) did not participate in the competition, but this time it sent five artists at once - the group Brio Sonores. The group, whose members are Dmitry Mytsu, Valery Moruz, Mikhail Gandraman, Vitaly Machunsky and Vyacheslav Timofti, was created in 2009 on the basis of a church choir, and in 2013 the musicians began performing in the pop opera genre. The group achieved great success in their homeland, and in 2014 they won the Romania Got Talent competition, receiving a cash prize of 120 thousand euros. Last year, Brio Sonores recorded their own version of the Moldovan anthem.

Ksenia Sobchak, Timur Rodriguez, Lipa

The sea, the sun and the whole color of Russian show business - in Sochi, with the support of the Yugra Bank, the Mercedez-Benz and Anex Tour companies, the Novo-Grad construction company and the concert organizer - the Vozmi Zvezdu company, the competition for young performers "" started. The gala concert in honor of the opening ceremony started at 19.30, but the stars, of course, began to gather at the New Wave Hall concert hall in advance - in order to have time to pose for photographers and take selfies with fans. Polina Gagarina, Ani Lorak, Elena Temnikova, Valery Meladze and many, many other celebrities were preparing to go on stage to delight the audience with their performances, while Svetlana Medvedeva and Nikita Mikhalkov watched what was happening from the audience.

The main character of the evening, undoubtedly, was one of the presenters of the ceremony, interest in which, due to her pregnancy, had recently reached its peak. Even before the ceremony began, there were rumors that it was at the “New Wave” that the journalist finally announced her interesting position, and Sobchak did not let the public down. When Ksenia’s co-host Sergei Lazarev suddenly suggested to her, the TV star immediately retorted:

Sobchak’s partners this time were Alexey Vorobyov, Lipa, Sergey Lazarev, Lera Kudryavtseva and Timur Rodriguez. Some of them, by the way, not only performed the duties of entertainers, but also performed in front of the public. Thus, Lazarev pleased the audience with his hit You Are The Only One, which brought the singer third place in "", and Vorobiev once again lit up the stage by performing the song "Crazy".

There were so many musical numbers that evening! Igor Krutoy, Lyubov Uspenskaya, Zara, Polina Gagarina, Anzhelika Varum - the audience greeted them all with thunderous applause. Philip Kirkorov, by the way, several times: during the artist’s first performance, the backing track malfunctioned, so the king of pop first sang a cappella, and then repeated his number.

Another hero of the evening was the special guest of the opening ceremony, Ricky Martin. The Puerto Rican singer appeared on stage only at the finale of the gala concert, but the wait was worth it: fiery songs, lively dances, drive that permeates everything around, and, of course, Livin’ la Vida Loca - the artist managed to truly get the crowd going.

Alas, Martin had practically no time to communicate with the press: security guards surrounded the star in a tight ring, not allowing anyone to get close to Ricky (except, of course, Kirkorov, who took a selfie with a colleague). Only by miracle did the photographers manage to take several photographs of the artist.

Stars are stars, but no one forgot about the contestants, because it was during the opening ceremony of the “New Wave” that the draw for participants took place. It was carried out in an unusual way - with the help of toy leopards. A special stand with small toys was installed on the stage, where each leopard was assigned its own number. Having finished their performances, the star artists had to choose a specific toy for a specific country - this is how the competition participants learned in what order they would perform in front of a strict jury.

Why leopards? It's simple - they have become a symbol of the current "New Wave". The fact is that on June 12, 2016, on Russia Day, three kittens of the Central Asian leopard were born in Sochi - a species that is almost extinct in our country and is listed in the Red Book. In honor of such a significant event, it was decided to announce a large-scale competition for baby names and invite every resident of Russia to take part in it. The competition covered the whole country, and as a result, by the beginning of the “New Wave”, a shortlist of names appeared that received the most votes. Voting continues, and now celebrities have also taken part in it - the results will be known only at the closing ceremony of the competition, on September 9.

It seems that this is very soon, but the participants, jury and spectators have a very busy program ahead. Every day, the contestants will try their best to impress the judges. This year, the competition received more than 10,000 applications, and based on the results of the semi-finals, the professional jury selected 16 participants from 12 countries. Now we have to choose the best and give a start in life to the aspiring artist.

The abilities of the participants this year will be assessed by Igor Krutoy, Philip Kirkorov, Ani Lorak, Igor Nikolaev, Valeria, Leonid Agutin, Angelika Varum, Kostantin and Valery Meladze, Victor Drobysh, Yuri Antonov, Yuri Kostin, Arman Davletyarov and the Greek composer Dimitris Kontopoulos. The rest will also be able to feel like a jury, because the “New Wave” has an audience award.

All the contestants appeared on stage at the end of the evening, the final chord of which was the presentation of a huge cake - after all, “New Wave” was celebrating its 15th birthday.
