History of the Guano Apes group. History of the group Guano Apes Guano apes song translation

-

is an alternative rock quartet from Göttingen, Germany, formed in 1994.

Stefan Uhde, Henning Rümenapp and Dennis Poschwatta played together for some time and invited Sandra Nasic in 1996 to participate in the “Local Heroes” competition organized by the German music television channel VIVA. Guano Apes defeated more than a thousand participants, and their debut single"Open Your Eyes" became a top ten hit in Germany in 1996 and remained in the top 100 for 30 weeks. Thanks to VIVA's heavy promotion of the "Open Your Eyes" video, Guano Apes signed a contract with Gun Records, which released their album "Proud Like A God" in 1997. The band's second single, "Lords of the Boards", which was written for the 1998 European Snowboard Championships, became an even bigger hit and made their album certified platinum in Germany and gold elsewhere in Europe. RCA released the album "Proud Like a God" in the United States in 1999.

The group gained considerable popularity by recording a cover version of the song “Big In Japan”, popular in the late 1980s. Alphaville groups. This track was included in the band's second album, Don't Give Me Names.

We are announcing the results of the first stage of the competition, which Zvuki.Ru and AudioClub announced last week. Let us remind you that in order to receive the first of the collections Rock Zone, you should have answered the following questions:
1. Tell a story about a character named Buck Rogers, to whom the band’s composition presented on the disc is dedicated Feeder.
2. Suggest your own translation of the group name Guano Apes.

If almost no one had any problems with the first question (most often when answering you were guided by the description of Buck Rogers taken from the song), then the answer to the second question was not given to you without difficulty. The most interesting versions were: "Waste Apes", "Sewage Apes", "Smelly Apes", "Asshole Apes", "Guanoprimates", "Monkey Poo", "Smelly Apes", and "Asshole Apes".
I would also like to note the version of our visitor Valeria, who reported: "The most poetic way to translate Guano Apes is not to translate them at all. It sounds beautiful: Guano Apes!". It sounds nice, but we asked specifically to translate, and not spell, the title.

Today we are presenting RockZone Ultra-2 compilations to our following visitors:

Alex (CP). Here is his answer:
. 1. The story about Buck Rogers is simple and sad. Buck Rogers is a historical figure. They called him Buck because he lived in a garbage dump and ate from garbage cans. Thus, Buck Rogers expressed his protest against the decaying capitalist system. Since this was a new thing in Europe, journalists always hovered around Buck to write his official biography. In the end, Buck could not stand it and fled to America, where he was met by the Freeders group. The guys smoked a strong cigarette with Buck and Buck told them his story. They just went crazy and wrote a song about Buck. And they received so much money for this song that Buck no longer eats in garbage dumps.
2. This is quite difficult, but... The best version I have is POO MONkeyS! :)))))

Second place goes to Maria Galina(Mistake), who proposed the following version:

1. According to the search engine Rambler, Buck Rogers was born in 1969, is one of the members of the board of directors of IBS and spoke at a conference in Moscow, dedicated to the protection digital information. That's his whole story. And according to the group, he has a car (it looks like a Jaguar), and he likes to have a little drink. And this is the second story.
2. Guano Apes = Primate monkeys, taken from the trash heap.

Alex and Maria receive well-deserved prizes from us. Congratulations!
Thanks also to the rest of the competition participants. Don't give up and try your luck in the next round!

“Almost everyone knows, but not everyone has listened to the group’s entire discs. And in vain! The group has quite extraordinary material that even a music connoisseur like me liked:) In general, check it out sometime - maybe you’ll be hooked?

In the meantime, while you are hooked and GA songs are already playing in your headphones/speakers/headsets (the same headphones, but the name is beautiful), I will tell you where guana monkeys’ legs grow from. I'll start with the name. Guano is the remains of seabird droppings and bats(taken from Wikipedia), used as fertilizer. Apes are monkeys in English. You can combine these two phrases in any way you like, but the closest, in my opinion, is the name “monkey droppings.” Good name, Truth? :) It’s not clear where monkeys come from in Germany - it’s not Africa, after all! However, why the guys called themselves that, I never found out, incl. I’ll go straight to the history of creation.

Various sources they claim different things (that’s why they are different - another word different had to be used for symmetry), either the guys were together from school, or they immediately became famous, the only certainty is that it all started in 1994. The original lineup of Sandra Nasic (vocals), Stephan Ude (bass), Dennis Poschwatta (drums), Henning Rumenapp (guitar) lasted until the band disbanded in 2005 and so on same reunited in 2009 when the group decided to reunite. From some sources it can be established that the musicians met Sandra in a certain bar, where the future alt-metal diva worked as a bartender. The group was gaining momentum, but the final breakthrough was the group's participation in the 1996 young bands competition in Germany, where the musicians managed to beat a bunch of competitors with their hit "Open Your Eyes".

After the success of the single "Open Your Eyes", the group was picked up by the monster GUN, which released their first album "Proud Like A God" (1997). According to Wikipedia, the song "Lord of the boards" was specially written for snowboarding competitions in Europe, thanks to which the group received another powerful PR. Already in 1999, the group toured the United States along with such teams as Creed and P.O.D.

Not having had time to enjoy the peak of popularity from the first album, GA released their second disc, “Don’t Give Me Names,” in 2000. As it was easy to imagine, the disc soars to the top of the charts immediately after its release.

The third album was "Walking On A Thin Line", released in 2003. Frankly speaking, compared to previous works, the novelty was not so strong, but despite this, tours around the world continued and the group swam in the laurels of one of the best alternative teams in the world.

In 2005 there was a break. The musicians decided to start their own projects. Having finally released the collection best songs the group announced its breakup. The drummer was involved in the Tamoto and IO projects, Sandra worked on solo album called "The Signal", but it was not the same.
