The composition became a winner at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2013 festival, which allowed its performer to go to the competition. The victory was deservedly given to the young girl, but incredibly talented singer, who was only 19. Despite young age she has a very solid experience of performing, the singer has been doing vocals her entire adult life, Emmily has a number of victories in her music competitions. According to Emmilie herself, she started singing before talking. As a child, she successfully performed in the church choir, and at the age of 14 she went on her first tour with the Danish musician Fraser Neil.

The composition performed by Emmie de Forest - “Only Teardrops” - was written by the singer herself.

Eurovision 2014. Denmark

The 59th Eurovision Song Contest was held in Denmark from May 6 to 10. The symbol of Eurovision 2014 was the blue diamond.

In 2014, the winner of the competition, unexpectedly for everyone - and for himself too - was 25-year-old singer from Austria Thomas Neuwirth, who performed under the stage name Conchita Wurst. In the final, with the song “Rise Like a Phoenix,” she scored 290 points, 52 points ahead of her closest competitor, the duet “The Common Linnets” from the Netherlands, who scored 238 points.

Eurovision 2014 overall turned out to be the strongest last years. Over the past 10 years, there has been a lot of criticism of Eurovision, and some countries seemed to deliberately send frankly second-rate artists to the competition.

Thomas Neuwirth - Austrian unconventional singer sexual orientation, who, with the help of his stage image of a bearded woman, fights for tolerance and equality of all people, regardless of their appearance.

This image is three years old; Neuwirth in the form of Wurst - a bearded and stylishly dressed vamp - could have gone to Eurovision 2012, but took second place at the national selection.

The musician himself separates himself and the singer he created - this is, however, what all artists do who work with characters of a different (and also their own) gender. You can remember, for example, Verka Serduchka, who was invented by Andrei Danilko from Ukraine and who in this image recorded albums, starred in films, represented his country at Eurovision 2007 and even took second place there.

Europe's choice can hardly be considered demonstrative - objectively, Conchita Wurst, despite the beard, was the most feminine of the artists participating in this year's competition, and had perhaps the most outstanding vocal abilities in comparison with other competitors.

Eurovision 2015. Austria

The Eurovision 2015 final took place in the Austrian capital Vienna on 23 May.

Based on the results of a 12-point rating scale, the winner of Eurovision 2015 was Måns Zelmerlöw with the song Heroes. He scored 365 points and “broke away” from Russia, which remained in second place.

Måns Zelmerlöw was born on June 13, 1986 in the Swedish city of Lund into a family of doctors. His father, Sven-Olaf Zelmerlöw, worked as a surgeon, and his mother, Bridget Salen, is a professor in the field of speech pathology. The boy grew up listening to the music of Michael Jackson and Elton John. At first, Mons learned to play the piano, but he soon got bored with this instrument, and he changed it to the guitar.

In 2002, Mons took part in the filming of the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, where he got a small role as one of Joseph's eleven brothers.

At nineteen years old, the young man did not yet have a clear idea of what he would do in the future. At that time, Måns' friend persuaded him to go to Stockholm (Sweden) and audition for the talent show Idol 2005, where he took fifth place, and, to his surprise, Måns Zelmerlöw passed the qualifying round, performing a song by Enrique Iglesias. This was the first time the guy visited the capital of Sweden. The singer failed to win this competition.

The artist’s next dream was a big European tour with his band. To implement it, Måns Zelmerlöw took part in the qualifying round of Eurovision 2015, and successfully passed it. True, only the third attempt was crowned with success; before that, the musician did not pass the casting twice, in last time in 2009. At Eurovision 2015, Mons Zelemerlev performed the song Heroes.

Besides musical career Mons took part in dubbing cartoons. Yes, in a voice popular singer Lem from Planet 51 spoke, as well as Flynn Rider from the animated tale Tangled.

By the way, small Ireland became the winner of the competition more often than other countries - 7 times. Great Britain can be called the luckiest country in the competition: British performers took second place 15 times. France and Luxembourg, like England, have won 5 times. Russia became the winner once, in 2008.

2012. Sweden

Last year the competition was held in Azerbaijan, in Baku. Victory of Moroccan-Berber origin Lauryn(Loreen) with the song “Euphoria”. Previously, this performance could be seen at Melodifestivalen (at this competition in Sweden, a representative of the country is chosen for Eurovision). Lauryn decided not to change her unique number. In it, the singer presented yoga dance (euphoria-dansen), in which American beat-boxer Osben Jordan participated. By the way, Lorin set a new competition record: Sweden scored a record number of 12-point marks - 18.

2011. Azerbaijan

For the first time in the history of Eurovision, a duet became the winner of the competition, held in Dusseldorf, Germany. Eldara Kasimova And Nigar Jamal(Ell & Nikki) from Azerbaijan. At the national qualifying round, the performers performed separately and scored the same number of points. Therefore, the jury decided to send a duet to the competition. The melodic single “Running Scared,” for which no one predicted a place in the top three, brought the duo 221 points and first place. By the way, only 3 countries gave Azerbaijan the highest rating - Russia, Türkiye and Malta.

2010. Germany

Oslo, Norway. 19-year-old singer from Germany Lena Mayer-Landrut(Lena Meyer-Landrut) with the song “Satellite” won with a significant margin over the competitors (246 points versus 170 for Turkey). After such success, Germany sent Lena to the competition for the second time, but in 2011 her song “Taken by A Stranger” took only 10th place. Immediately after this, the singer’s popularity began to decline.

2009. Norway

The capital of the 54th and largest competition in history was Moscow. A singer and violinist, a native of Belarus, won on the Russian stage Alexander Rybak, who represented Norway. In the song “Fairytale” you can hear the melodies of an ancient dance - the Irish reel, and the hit itself, according to Alexander Rybak, he dedicated ex-girlfriend. “It's amazing that so many people chose the simplest song (Fairytale). I don’t even understand what happened,” Rybak admitted at a press conference after the victory.

2008. Russia

Belgrade, Serbia. This year, luck smiled on the Russian performer Dima Bilan, who performed at Eurovision for the second time. Bilan was considered one of the favorites of the competition; viewers remembered his performance in 2006 very well. In 2008, everyone was captivated not only by the song “Believe” itself, but also by the unique enchanting production of the Russian team. For the first time in the history of Eurovision, an ice covering was installed on the stage, on which figure skater and Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko performed together with Bilan. And for the first time at the competition, the violin of Antonio Stradivari sounded in the hands of the famous Hungarian violinist Edwin Marton.

2007. Serbia

Helsinki, Finland. The first place was taken by the representative of Serbia Maria Sherifovich(Marija Šerifović) with a song in Serbian “Prayer”. In many ways, this victory was unexpected, since songs in the national language do not often take first place, and Šerifović herself differed from other performers with a strong dramatic timbre of her voice and unconventional appearance. The artist, dressed in a man's suit, performed a heartfelt “Prayer”. After the victory, the 22-year-old Serbian singer decided to devote herself entirely to music and abandon her management career.

2006. Finland

Eurovision 2006 will long remain in the memory of millions of viewers as the most controversial and scandalous. Finnish group Lordi with the song “Hard Rock Hallelujah” she beat the favorite of the competition, representing our country, Dima Bilan. The group of “monsters” (Lordi always perform on stage and appear in public wearing terrifying masks made of latex and hand-painted) faced difficulties from the very qualifying round. Finland entered a rock band into the competition for the first time, but after Lordi was elected, some public organizations They called the group “satanic” for its image and lyrics. Despite this, the song "Hard Rock Hallelujah" won the audience vote with a record 292 points. The victory brought Lordi wider fame.

He presented the Greek woman with a special prize - a golden pictoral, which is a Scythian decoration with fern elements.

2004. Ukraine

Istanbul, Türkiye. The Ukrainian woman became the first according to the voting results Ruslana with a fiery song with Hutsul motifs “Wild Dances”. The colorful singer in a leather and metallic suit, surrounded by her dancers, caught my eye even in the semi-finals and won quite predictably. By the way, the title of the song turned out to be justified. During the rehearsal of Ruslana's number, the stage could not withstand the wild dancing and broke down.

2003. Türkiye

10 years ago, the winner of the 48th competition in Riga, Latvia, was Sertab Erener(Sertab Erener) from Turkey. Her song “Everyway That I Can” literally captivated listeners from all over the world. And the combination of the hot belly dance that Sertab performed on stage with Turkish rhythms and Western pop was remembered by the audience for a long time. Ask any music lover in what year Russia won the Eurovision Song Contest, and without hesitation he will tell you the only, and therefore especially memorable, year when, from the second take, Dima Bilan with the song “Believe” defended the honor of the country at the popular pan-European song competition and took the victorious 1st place. Thanks to this victory, Russia hosted participants and guests of the competition in Moscow for the first time in the history of Eurovision next year. Unfortunately, neither before nor after Dima Bilan, none of Russian singers never achieved such success again. Let's remember how it was.

Russia's participation in Eurovision

For a long time, Russia as part of the USSR was behind the “Iron Curtain” separating Soviet Union from the rest of the world. Therefore, cultural events such as the Eurovision Song Contest did not influence or affect Russians in any way from the time the song competition was founded in 1956 until 1994, when for the first time Russian Maria Katz performed at the competition and took a fairly high place for a debutant country - 9- oh.

Since then, relations between Russia and Eurovision have developed sometimes dramatically, and sometimes very successfully. The most successful year was 2008, when Russia won Eurovision for the first and only time in the history of its participation in this competition - the victory was brought then.

There were then and before that quite successful performances:

  • Competitors from Russia took an honorable 2nd place 4 times. Alsou was the first to rise so high, then Dima Bilan consolidated this result, and then the unforgettable ones pulled up, closing this procession.
  • The groups Tatu and Serebro were awarded 3rd place, and later became one of the “bronze winners”.

How Russia was not allowed into Eurovision because of Alla and Philip

But it must be said that not everything went so smoothly at this hyper-popular competition. There were two disastrous performances - both failures were associated with the performance of the “royal” couple Russian stage Philip Kirkorov and Alla Pugacheva. Philip took 17th place, and Alla slightly improved this result and took only 15th place. These events not only showed the failure of the Russian stage and its lack of competitiveness, but also did a disservice to new contenders. Russia was not allowed to participate in the competition in 1998, as there was a lack of passing points due to the low rating of previous performers. Russia (represented by the management of the Ostankino TV and Radio Broadcasting Company) was offended and did not broadcast the competition, for which it lost the right to participate the following year.

The future of Russia is in the next competition

Let's hope that all these failures are behind us forever, and only successful performances of our singers await us, and very soon Russia will again take first place, and to the question “How many times has Russia won Eurovision?” we will proudly answer 5 or even 10 times.

Of course, there is no harm in dreaming. And it’s not such a pipe dream. England, Luxembourg and France, for example, have won this competition 5 times. Ireland - 7 times, Sweden - 6 times. As you can see, there is nothing impossible in this.

In 2017, Eurovision will be hosted by Kyiv, after last year. I would very much like this not to have any impact on Russia’s participation in the competition. After all, there should be “flies separately, and cutlets separately.” The guns should fall silent when the music plays, and we hope that it will.
