Biography

Chewbacca's earliest involvement in the film saga was shown in Revenge of the Sith. Along with the Wookiee Tarfful, Chewbacca serves as Master Yoda's bodyguard on the planet Kashyyyk during the battle with the Separatists. After the stormtroopers execute Order 66, Tarfful and Chewbacca help Yoda quietly leave the planet, saying goodbye to him forever.

Subsequently, fate brings Chewie together with the Corellian smuggler Han Solo; the Wookiee becomes a flight mechanic on his ship, the Millennium Falcon. On this ship, Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and two droids, along with Han and Chewie, travel to Alderaan. Chewbacca participates in the implementation of the plan to neutralize Starkiller Base. Together with Han and Finn, he enters the base, where all three are reunited with Rey and manage to disable the protective shields, after which they witness the confrontation between Han and Kylo Ren. As Chewie watches, Kylo Ren, struggling internally between his desire to renounce the Dark Side and his desire to achieve the power of Darth Vader, stabs his father with a lightsaber. Struck by the sudden death of his closest friend, Chewbacca becomes enraged and, in desperation, opens fire on Ren and the base guards, but he fails to deal with Han’s killer.

After the successful destruction of Starkiller, Chewie, along with the restored droid R2-D2, accompanies Rey on the Falcon in search of the exiled Luke Skywalker.

Death

In the new canon, Chewbacca is alive at least in 34 ABY. However, Robert Salvatore's novel Vector-Prime from The New Jedi Order series describes the death of this character.

Battle of Yavin

After escaping from the Death Star, Han and Chewie planned to go to Jabba and repay their debt, but got caught up in the thick of things. They took part in the Battle of Yavin, siding with the Rebel Alliance fighting against the Empire. In this battle, the Death Star was destroyed. Han, Chewbacca and Luke Skywalker were awarded medals for their heroism in battle. For a while, the Falcon crew abandoned the work of smugglers and became Alliance pilots.

Once again setting out to pay off their debts, Han and Chewie fell into the clutches of pirates. Only thanks to new friends Luke and Leia, the Falcon team managed to escape. After the rescue, Chewie attended the Alliance council, where the plan to destroy the Death Star II was discussed.

Together with Luke, Ley and Han, Chewbacca went to the moon of Endor, where his friends were supposed to deactivate the shields of the Empire's weapons. There the Wookiee met a race of Ewoks, who did not like the thug, as they took his crossbow and almost ate him. Aborigines associated Chewbacca with the Forest Spirit, a giant creature that, according to legend, lived in the jungle and protected the Ewoks from harm.

However, even after the death of Darth Vader and the Emperor, the Empire did not give up. Chewie continued to fight against the remnants of the Empire, liberating his planet Kashyyyk and Bakur. After these victories, the Rebel Alliance became known as the Free Planets Alliance.
