What is spongebob squarepants. SpongeBob SquarePants (TV series)

SpongeBob SquarePants is one of children's favorite cartoon characters. A bright hero, ready to help his friends, promoting decency, courage and honesty, is popular today among children and teenagers. Branded products featuring the cartoon character are in demand all over the world.

History of creation

SpongeBob (in Russian translation - SpongeBob) became the hero of the animated series, the premiere episode of which was released on television in the spring of 1999. The product of the children's television channel Nickelodeon turned out to be no less in demand than Hey Arnold! or "Catdog". The story of a small sponge living at the bottom of the ocean in the town of Bikini Bottom has attracted the interest of millions of viewers. The cartoon was about the main character, whose home was a pineapple located on Shell Street, and about his neighbors: an octopus, Sandy the squirrel and a starfish.

SpongeBob works at Mr. Krabs and is trying to get a promotion. The character's life is busy interesting events. The hero learns to drive, receives unexpected guests, organizes parties and takes part in unpredictable scams. The cartoon character was invented by Stephen Hillenburg, and Thomas Kenny gave his voice to SpongeBob.

Marine biologist Hillenburg always felt a craving for art, and at some point he overcame it. common sense. A specialist in marine life, he took an animation course and, upon completing it, gave life to a character that had no analogues in cinema. The underwater city, invented by the author, is inhabited by animals, which only required the consent of the Nickelodeon channel to introduce them to the viewer.

Hillenburg prepared a presentation, offering sketches and sculptures for the producers' consideration, as well as a composed song for the introduction. The idea turned out to be in demand. After some time, the cartoon gathered an impressive audience of fans in front of the screens. Today the project is a nominee and winner prestigious awards in the field of television and animation.

Animated series

The characters in the project are unusual and interesting. SpongeBob is the central character of the action. His age is undetermined and irrelevant. Sponge is not just a symbol for a character. Unlike friends, the hero is not an animal, but an inanimate object. While working at the Krusty Krabs, SpongeBob prepares burgers, the recipe of which Plankton is trying to steal. The hero loves his job and works tirelessly year after year.

The character's adventures are directly related to the infantilism of Sponge and his neighbors. In the company of friends, he catches jellyfish, studies karate, blows soap bubbles and watches cartoons. The stupid Patrick became SpongeBob's close friend. An eccentric starfish in Hawaiian shorts is lazy and bulky bad habits. IN free time friends are having fun and doing all sorts of pranks. Patrick often becomes a source of problems for Bob. The starfish's narrow-mindedness is explained by biological reasons, but this does not become a problem for the heroes' friendship.

The opposite of SpongeBob is the talented and cunning octopus Squidward. They don't get along with each other, but are forced to live next door. An art lover, the octopus paints pictures, plays the violin and loves silence. He rarely gets to be alone and calm, because Bob and Patrick constantly drag him into adventure stories. Unlike Sponge, Squidward does not like work and constant fun, but in some episodes he becomes bored, and, remembering his neighbor’s carelessness, he has fun in his house.

SpongeBob is friends with Sandy the Squirrel, who lives on the seabed in a special aquarium and moves around the town in the aquarium. An athlete and scholar, she moved to Bikini Bottom from Texas. The squirrel often helps Bob out of trouble. The leitmotif of their relationship has a slight hint of romance, but the story of Sponge and Squirrel remains unfinished. SpongeBob helps Sandy understand some of the laws of the sea and introduces her to the types of entertainment available.

The main character also has enemies. Eugene Krabs and Plankton are among them. Competing eatery owners are trying to gain the upper hand. The first attracts the public with a wonderful dish, and the second with technical innovations. Sea creatures prefer Krabby Patties, so Plankton often loses in the fight. SpongeBob has repeatedly defended the secret of making burgers from his competitor, but Plankton inexorably repeats his attempts to find out the secret.

From time to time, a silent character appears on the screen who means a lot to the main character. It is his a pet, Gary the snail. Sometimes viewers see Mr. Krabs' daughter in the form of a whale. Plankton's wife (a mechanized creature), Harry's lobster trainer or Mrs. Puff's puffer fish, who teaches Bob to drive, do not appear in every episode, but they have a unique charm.

  • Few people know that SpongeBob is a diminutive name for SpongeBob. His name is actually Robert Harold SquarePants. At first he was given the name Sponge Boy, but it turned out that a popular detergent brand was already using it, and the hero had to be renamed. The author assumed that the character should have a round body, but over time abandoned this idea, since the unusual shape was more suitable for the character of the hero. Bob wears a shirt and tie and a red hat and occasionally appears in underwear.

  • Critics believe that the characters in the animated series symbolize mortal sins. So, Mr. Krabs is credited with greed, and Plankton is credited with envy. Patrick suffers from laziness, and Sandy struggles with anger. The snail loves to eat and symbolizes gluttony, and Bob satisfies his lust. At the same time, lust is not understood as literally, but in analogy with the character’s inner passions, which cannot always be overcome. Crazy ideas constantly appear in Bob's head, the implementation of which he is unable to refuse.
  • The cartoon and its characters gained popularity in 2007, after the release of the second season. In 2007, Time magazine recognized the project as the best television product. Among the popular episodes of the series, viewers named “The Idiot Box,” “The Clever Crane,” and “Stuck in the Refrigerator.”

May this inimitable nonsense be glorified in the name of Krabby Patties! These heroes, these jokes, most charming in their madness, unforgettable in their fooling around!

A frivolous, joyful, irresponsible series that does stupid things and laughs at stupid things, and at the same time innocent and good-natured. Just like a four year old child better mood(read in a frenzy). I’ve been delighted with this series for many years, despite the fact that I didn’t get along with it as a child I knew it at the level of a couple of episodes, I wasn’t particularly drawn to watch further. I decided to give him a second chance already when I was a teenager and I was as amazed as I was glad at how cool he really was. And since then, little has changed.

Hillenburg's fantasy, love for the ocean, for his own heroes with all their cockroaches - all this is noticeable in every frame. Look at sea sponges in real life and try to tell that these creatures have comedic potential - and they do, and then some. Invertebrate Bob, with his ability to regenerate, changes his shape as he wants, and easily breaks off his own hands and as a person he is a completely sweet creature. He is not looking for a quarrel with anyone, he knows how to find good in elementary things, the whole world is sunny and festive for him, all people are friends, and work is good when it is to his liking. He is not cranky like other comedy heroes (he masterfully sculpts his beloved Krabby Patties) and is not limited (inventions for games pour out of him like peas from a sack). And his naivety, when it comes to something really important, is easily turned off. This is in recent seasons Bob is already so stupid that he is touched even by open insults and reacts with hysterics to everything in the world, but at the beginning it was not so - he could be offended, and flare up, and even take revenge rather cruelly. Yes, it’s easy to understand Squidward, who “wakes up to the sound of a steamship siren, falls asleep to the giggles,” and he only dreams of peace while he lives between Bob and Patrick but they just want to make friends. And if Squid makes it clear to them in the most elevated tones that he is not delighted with their company, they will not be offended even then, and will even bring a cake with an apology.

Squidward is, no less, my favorite character. A sort of dissatisfied adult who suffers at a hated job for a meager salary, is angry with his neighbors, and is at odds with a former classmate who has achieved a lot in life. So smart, correct, serious, what does he need to do with tomfoolery and childish pranks?…

I order the food, you prepare it, and the customers receive their order. We do this for forty years and then we die. It sounds quite life-affirming.

SpongeBob, congratulations. I reached the handle. I am ready to run across the ten seas to where the past will seem like a dream to me. I prefer to make a jump rope out of my spinal cord and jump to the crossroads of four roads, and then further and further, to the ends of the world, just so as not to stay here for a minute!

Squidward, why don't you come over to my place for a Krabby Patty? You know, SpongeBob, this is a great idea. Or maybe I should cook them too? And wash the dishes? And wear square pants? And live in a pineapple house while you're standing in the unemployment line?!

And the Krusty Krab team, inexhaustible in tricks, Bob-Squidward-Krabs the boss is a curmudgeon with completely wild ideas on how to earn more and pay less, and his only two employees, one of whom enjoys work, the other cannot stand it This is even sounds like an explosive combination. It almost always pays off, and the coolest episodes are often associated with it.

I also really like Plankton a transparent parody of the antagonists, evil geniuses. It’s a great idea to make the main villain out of a single-celled organism - his very dimensions make it difficult to take him seriously, let alone his ideas. to steal a sandwich from a nearby diner. And, of course, he always loses. A cunning, envious, obvious sadist even looks at snowflakes, thinking about how he will extract energy from them and rule the world (until he is completely covered in snowflakes). But he is funny and charming like no one else in this series.

Lots of cute, absurd, but creative jokes, like the eyelash sweater that Bob knits for Squidward, who throws it away, and Bob catches up with him and hands him a sweater made of tears, or the suspicious and creepy "squish-squish-squish-squish" with which Bob washes the ceiling with suction cups in the dark…

Nickelodeon-style art and animation are primitive and twitchy - both the main characters, the extras, and the background. But, honestly how expressive they are. The characters' characters are simply written on their faces. Sometimes it becomes funny just from the way they make faces. When Squidward, with his new boss, tries to feign joy, when Bob squints with a satisfied smile at Squidward, who wanted Krabby Patties, when the same Bob loses his name tag and begins to breathe heavily in horror I still giggle, although I have seen these episodes many times already.

Voice acting and here, first of all, I have to praise the dubbing team. One of those cases when the dubbing turns out better than the original. Bright, emotional, funny voices, not at all annoying, which is what the original sometimes sins with - how much fun they make! Thanks to them, I listen to even the simplest phrases like music.

But in general, nonsense? Otherwise! And what else. But this is a sincere, characteristic, touching, lovingly filmed and very memorable nonsense with absolutely crazy characters, you can laugh and root for them endlessly.

This is not a far-fetched fan theory, but real fact from one of the creators. This was revealed in the commentary track for the special DVD release. True, they didn’t say which sin specifically applies to whom, but it’s not difficult to figure it out.

Patrick is lazy
He lies under a rock for days, his to-do list consists of "Nothing", and in one episode he even received an award for doing nothing the longest. It is common to call it sin, but we still believe that it is art.

Squidward - anger
This guy could play main role in the movie "Hate and Hate in Bikini Bottom". Squidward is infuriated by his life, his job, his environment and everything in general.

Mr. Krabs - greed
A creature with the motto "Money, money, money, money, MONEY!" does not raise any questions as to what sin to attribute it to.

Plankton - envy
He envies Mr. Krabs because he has success, clients, power and girls, while Plankton has cobwebs, decay and a robot wife who does nothing but saw.

Gary - Gluttony
Fact: This creature's purpose in life is to fill its belly. Very often, when Gary appears in the picture, SpongeBob says that the snail should be given something to eat. Oh, yes, Kamon, in one episode the pet even ran away from home because the owner forgot to feed him!

Sandy - pride
A squirrel who is madly proud of her heritage, origin, level of development and position in society. Moreover, when her sense of self-importance is hurt, her facial expression becomes such that she immediately wants to apologize for something.

GIF

Spongebob - lust
This point sounds the most dubious of all, but everything changes if you look in the dictionary. One of the definitions of the word lust is excessive love for others. SpongeBob is one of those people for whom it is important to be good in the eyes of others: he will never refuse a friend, acquaintance, or passerby any request, even the stupidest one. SpongeBob loves everyone and everyone, and there is no point in arguing with that.

2. Patrick has an older sister, Sam.

Although I would rather call it big sister. Sam speaks mostly in menacing sounds.

3. SpongeBob will turn 30 this year.

Judging by his driver's license, Sponge's birthday is July 14, 1986.

4. Patrick weighs only 56 grams

Or 2 oz. That's what it says on his driver's license.

5. SpongeBob worked at the Krusty Krab for 31 years.

At least, this figure was in 2004, when the full-length film “SpongeBob SquarePants” was released. It said he received 374 awards Best Employee Months. 374 bonuses divided by 12 months = 31 years of service. In connection with the previous point, I want to shout: logic, find yourself!

6. Squidward is not a squid, as is commonly believed

He's an octopus. And he has 6 limbs, not 8, as expected, because “it looked too brutal.”

7. The creator of the series is a marine biologist

The idea for the show itself came to Stephen Hillenburg during another expedition to the seabed.

8. In the series there is a character who appears in moments of chaos and shouts: “My leg!” (My leg!)

His name is Fred, and we think he's the most developed character on the show.

9. A species of sea mushroom discovered in 2011 was named after SpongeBob.

Spongiforma squarepantsii. Looks like a cut orange.

10. SpongeBob was originally going to be called Sponge Boy.

But it turned out that this name was already taken by a brand of mops.

"Sponge Bob Square Pants"(English) "SpongeBob SquarePants") is an American animated series produced by the company in 1999, quickly becoming one of the most popular animated series on television. In 2007, TIME magazine named it one of the best television shows of all time. During its existence, the animated series has acquired a reputation as a series with good, but sometimes stupid humor, an unexpected plot and original scenes. It is Nickelodeon's second longest-running animated series after Rugrats. The Russian version of the series has been broadcast on the TNT channel since 2003, and new episodes were broadcast in the spring of 2004, 2006 and 2008.

Description

The main character, the optimistic SpongeBob, lives in the underwater town of Bikini Bottom, in a pineapple house at 124 Shell Street. 124 Conch st.). According to the entry on his driver's license, he was born on July 14, 1986.

The population of the underwater town of Bikini Bottom consists of various marine inhabitants. Among them - best friend SpongeBob, a starfish named Patrick, an irritable, arrogant squid named Squidward and a squirrel named Sandy, who also lives underwater using a wetsuit. SpongeBob works as a cook at the Krusty Krab, which is run by the old miser Mr. Krabs.

SpongeBob is the most prominent, funniest and most resilient character in the animated series. Appears in almost all episodes and most of the lines belong to him. An exception is the episode "Befriend the Enemy" (2008), where Mr. Krabs entrusted him with the duties of a waiter who served Mr. Krabs' elderly mother Mrs. Krabs and her selfish suitor Plankton. And in the series "C" clean slate“Didn’t say a word at all.

Cartoon characters

  • Sandy(Carolyn Lawrence) - a squirrel in a diving suit from Texas. She practices karate and also loves science.
  • Eugene Krabs(Clancy Brown) - the greediest resident of Bikini Bottom, owner of the Krusty Krab diner. This crab loves two things: money and his daughter Pearl. Because of greed it sometimes reminds small child, who does not want to give back the coin he earned (in the episode “Fake Krabs” he left the restaurant in pursuit of a penny). The character is voiced by Alexander Hotchenkov.
  • Gary(Tom Kenny) - SpongeBob's snail. Gary meows like a cat, he is the bright and loyal favorite of the brave SpongeBob. Many believe that he is much smarter than his owner.
  • Lobster Larry(Doug Lawrence) - Lobster athlete involved in weightlifting. He works as a lifeguard at Sticky Lagoon.
  • Mrs. Puff(Mary Jo Catlitt) - SpongeBob's driving teacher, constantly horrified by his poor driving.
  • Pearl Krabs(Lori Alan) - Mr. Krabs' whiny teenage daughter who loves pearls more than anything else.
  • Squilliam Fancyson- a rich squid that Squidward is jealous of. He is a real snob who loves to show off his money.
  • Sea Superman and Barnacle Boy(Ernest Boredgin and Tim Conway) - heroes television show in Bikini Bottom, in which they destroy the villainous fish. They are Patrick and Spongebob's favorite superheroes. Most episodes are parodies of superheroes and folk idols.
  • Sheldon Plankton(Doug Lawrence) is the “villain” of the cartoon. He is Mr. Krabs's only competitor in business, but no one visits his restaurant, The Garbage Bucket. He always comes up with cunning plans to steal the recipe for Krabby's exclusive Krabby Burger, but his crazy ideas never come to fruition.
  • Flying Dutchman(Brian Doyle - Murray) is a ghost that haunts Bikini Bottom. He loves to scare fish, and in one episode he even taught SpongeBob and Patrick the art of "scare."
  • Karen(Jill Taley) - supercomputer, Plankton's "wife". She sharply criticizes his plans to take over the world and teases her miniature husband in every possible way. Specialist in preparing holographic dinners.

Also in Bikini Bottom there live various fish that are busy with their own affairs, and the main objective screenwriter Stephen Hillenburg's goal was to show real life people, displaying them on the seabed. This animated series is watched in many countries and is relevant for different ages.

The series has noticeably grown from the good old 1999 to the modern 2009 with fast dynamics, new filling and changes in the images of the characters. The outlines and contours in the images of SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs, Patrick, Squidward, and Pearl have changed. Plankton's character has changed a little: now he is devoid of aggressiveness. It should also be noted that the latest episodes made in 2008-2009 are not particularly interesting or have an exciting plot. In most cases it is based on simple story, which will take less than 11 minutes to deploy (that’s why mini-episodes of 4-5 minutes appear). The themes of the series have changed: good nature and naivety were replaced by harshness and exaltation, sadness - by hysteria, delight - by unexpected antics reaching the point of absurdity (a bottle of dirt that Patrick pours on himself while sitting in the bathroom, a broken children's toy, because of which SpongeBob is killed , entering Squidward's body to remove the cap from the clarinet). These series bear more of a commercial imprint of production for quantity and orientation towards satisfying material needs, because they do not carry any special meaning. Those who saw the episodes from 1999 to 2002 will, of course, notice this difference in the script, which clearly did not occur in better side. Screenwriters and directors have changed. Also, the market was quickly saturated with full-length films about SpongeBob, which proliferated in incredible quantities. And on the site of games based on famous TV series, the vast majority of games are about SpongeBob.

Unlike the same type of animated series on the Nickelodeon channel, SpongeBob has friendly humor designed for easy and adequate perception, which is not found, for example, in The Ren and Stimpy Show. The series is based on fantastic situations, however, the writers do not take the plot to the point of mind-blowing and do not include piquant, vulgar, nasty or provocative scenes with which “The Ren and Stimpy Show” is teeming.

Spongebob vs. the Big One (2009)

In 2009, a new special episode of SpongeBob SquarePants and a big wave", produced by Nickelodeon. The plot of the film: SpongeBob and his friends are forced to urgently leave their homes, as a... huge wave. In order for SpongeBob and his friends to return home, they need to learn how to surf the waves. Windsurfing guru Jack Laguna, whom they met on the way to the tropical island, will help them with this. Interestingly, this special came out in three countries(Germany, Italy, Russia) in the same month as in the USA.

SpongeBob Square Pants or simply SpongeBob SquarePants is a cartoon launched on May 1, 1999. This animated series was filmed at Nickelodeon studio and immediately won its place in the sun. Probably now 80% of all people know who SpongeBob is :)

Optimistic SpongeBob (yellow) square sponge with big blue eyes) lives in the underwater town of Bikini Bottom (where all the adventures take place), in a pineapple house at 124 Shell Street.

Bikini Bottom is inhabited by a variety of marine life. Among them are SpongeBob's best friend, Patrick (a starfish), the irritable and arrogant octopus Squidward, and Sandy, a squirrel who also lives in Bikini Bottom using a wetsuit.

SpongeBob works every day as a cook at Mr. Krabs' Krusty Krab diner and has long dreamed of a promotion.

According to the entry on his driver's license, he was born on July 14, 1986. SpongeBob can change the shape and length of his arms at will, and retract them into himself. He usually wears a white shirt, a red tie, polished black shoes and brown pants, belted with a black belt. Although sometimes he appears in underwear.

SpongeBob was invented by marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg. SpongeBob is voiced by Tom Kenny.

Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob, was born on August 21, 1961 in Oklahoma, USA, in the city of Fort Sill. Since childhood, he showed interest in marine life. At the age of 15, Stephen began to actively study oceanology. Like Sponge Bob, Stephen Hillenburg once worked as a cook in a seafood restaurant.

In addition to his passion for the sea, Stephen had another passion - art. “Initially, I thought that if I went to art school, I wouldn’t be able to earn a decent living. Therefore, I decided to make my passion for art my hobby. But, having received an education, I realized that art was my calling.”

He later studied theoretical animation at the California Institute of the Arts. After graduation, he got a job at Nickelodeon. He had a dream to create his own cartoon. He wanted to create something about sea creatures.

His choice fell on a sponge to make him the main character of his cartoon. By the way, there are 40 holes in SpongeBob. Later, Stephen comes up with other underwater characters. He came up with an entire underwater city. The last thing he could do was get Nickelodeon's approval.

In his presentation, he showed sculptures, sketches, an aquarium and a theme song to explain his idea. Everyone really liked Hillenburg's idea. Stephen did not expect the cartoon to be such a success. He has won many awards.

Real popularity came to SpongeBob after the start of the second season and since then has remained quite high level. Thus, in 2007, Time magazine named this television series one of the best ever.

SpongeBob was to be named SpongeBoy and wear a red hat with a green base and a white business shirt and tie. But Hilenberg later chose a different name - SpongeBob.
